The Stay Club @ Camden

The rooms are really great, I think. The beds are a bit hard but I’m not too picky. My biggest complaint is that the area from my window is very loud at night, even on weekdays. Closing the window is no good because I can still hear everything. Also, one guy who works reception is a complete jerk. Wouldn’t let me get a new towel and said they don’t give new towels. But yet he gave other people towels. I don’t see what the big deal is, but he was a total jerk. If I were to ever stay again, I’d just bring my own towels.

I really hate leaving poor reviews, but if this review deters even one person then I feel it’s worth it.
This place is very misleading, please do not waste your money.
It looks nice from the exterior. Even the lobby seems decent.
However, the pictures they show you of the rooms have been cleverly edited to convey a larger space than they have.
Limited space is to be expected in London, but the inefficient use of space is just poor design. The rooms are often blazing hot for no good reason, the showers get water EVERYWHERE, the ladders to get to the top bunk are industrial… as in wear boots if you don’t want to tear your poor bare feet up, and the one in my room would not lock properly so it would slide every time I tried to climb it.
Our fridge died when we were gone for a few days, and they couldn’t replace it.
Over £60 worth of food went to waste, and so far they have refused to reimburse us.
We are here on a school trip, so needless to say we are poor students and that’s pretty devastating.
In addition to those gripes, weekends are very loud, with drunk people congregating in both the courtyard and the lobby, and constant sirens; there is no space to do schoolwork, eat or store one’s belongings.
Great city, great location, but please spend a few more GBP and find yourself a place you won’t spend regret.

First off, I want to say that I was an American traveler staying here with a group of other students, and stereotypically, us Americans can be a bit snob-​ish.
…This place was borderline awful… The room itself was pretty small, this wasn’t a problem at all considering we weren’t in our room majority of the time. BUT, these rooms where NOT clean. The kitchen was missing items, the bathroom had mold and lack of warm water, toilet paper and paper towels were not provided, you were given one towel for the entire week (my roommate and I asked for an additional towel and they looked at us like we were stupid, they charged us for another, which is not a big deal but when we spoke with other students we were all charged different prices), no one cleaned our room while we were there, it was so loud in the middle of the night, and many more small issues that accumulated into a larger one. The only positive is that it is in Camden which is a pretty awesome community, and the common room was entertaining, there was a pool table and vending machines and listening to the many different accents was fun too.
My advice when traveling here is, bring a few extra blankets (the rooms were freezing), bring an additional towel, and your own toilet paper.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of staying at Stay Club Camden for two months from the end of Sept to the end of November. My biggest complaint about this place is the noise. I have never lived in a place that was so noisy especially during the night. I have lived in dorms here in the US as well as an apartment complex for college students aged 18 – 21 and never experienced such loud people in my life. In the States the noise level would be considered to be «disturbing the peace» and if I had been home the police would have been called in this situation. I had to call reception on three separate occasions. Two of these incidents occurred past midnight when a so-​called «quiet time» is imposed. I stayed on –2^nd floor where about 2 – 3 times a month they have parties where a DJ is playing in the designated study room. I have no problems with parties but when they occur past 10pm and wake me up with people screaming and the wall vibrating to Taylor Swift then its an issue. Its also an issue when its 3am and I have to call reception. The desk attendant assured me the party would be ending soon but 45 minutes later I had to get out of bed and go upstairs to see what could be done. The desk attendant seemed annoyed and was very rude saying it was Halloween, what did I expect? He had no interest in what I was saying. I was extremely pissed off and just went back to my room before the situation escalated. I did go back on the following Monday during the morning and one of the desk people said they received a lot of complaints. They did stop the parties for a few weeks but they started again a few weeks before I left.
Cleaning was never on a set a schedule, some weeks the weekly cleaning was skipped. Wi-​fi was extremely spotty. They give you slips with an access code which you have to enter every time you get online: extremely annoying. Sometimes these codes never worked so I just starting grabbing more than one. TV in the laundry room did not work for weeks. Laundry machines were often broken, four washers and four dryers for six floors of rooms so if one was broken it was hard to get an available washer.
The room itself was not bad, small but adequate. There was one desk girl who had a permanent frown on her face and was upset I threw a small bag of trash in the lobby bin. The bag fit into the bin and didn’t fill it up so I’m not sure why she was upset consider there was a pizza box in the other bin that took up the whole trash can. The only good thing I can say is you have a small cooktop stove and refrigerator which you don’t get in most dorms. The only employees that are nice are the maintenance crew and the only other girl desk attendant (not said girl) mentioned above. I would have left sooner but since I already paid I did not have enough time to cancel due to their regulations.
I would not recommend staying here due to the extreme noise at night but if you need a place to stay for a night or two because you want to be close to Camden Market then proceed with caution otherwise, don’t bother folks.
