Description

Specialties

What the Butler Wore is a well established vintage clothing store, specializing in original clothing and accessories from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s (but we also have a few earlier and later pieces) We stock both women’s and menswear mostly sourced in the UK. All pieces are hand selected, rather than bulk-bought.

History

Established in 1995.

What the butler Wore started it’s life as a market stall at London’s famous Portobello Road and Camden markets in the early ’90’s. We started our first shop at the end of ’95 on Westminster Bridge Road in Waterloo. We have remained in Waterloo although moved onto Lower Marsh, a secret little market street with other independent shops, just around the corner. We were situated at 131 Lower Marsh for about 13 years, but we have recently relocated just a little further down the road to number 108. Many a famous face has paid the butler a visit over the years, some becoming regular customers and we also regularly supply film and theatre companies with costume for various period-set productions.

Meet the Business Owner

Vicki and Bridget P.

Business Owner

Vicki and Bridget met through mutual friends and joined forces to share a stall at Portobello and Camden Market in the Brit pop era (1994), before progressing to opening a shop together. Vicki had studied Fashion at Saint Martins, and Bridget had studied history… put the two together, and I guess it equals vintage fashion! We both share a particular love of the music and clothes of the 60’s.
