Such a lovely little pub — dogs allowed, which for me was amazing even though I don’t have one, there were so many fluffy cuties for me to swoon over! Incredible selection behind the bar and the staff are happy to recommend if it’s all a bit daunting! One of the loveliest gin and tonics I think I’ve ever tried :) the Wasabi bar snacks are delish too!

As other reviewers have written, The Wharf really does come into its own during the summer months as the large outside terrace bustles with drinkers. I’ve been here a few times now and it’s a good spot, close to the city centre yet in a calmer part of Castlefield, with a decent selection of draught beers on offer behind their well-stocked bar. Would I eat here again? Alas, no. The food is expensive for what you get(£12 for burger and fries) and you’d expect better quality than some of the dedicated ‘gourmet junk food’ places we have in the city these days. A place to bookmark for the rare occasions when the sun is full of shine, but not somewhere I’d particularly recommend solely as a dinner destination.

Not a great experience at the Wharf this time unfortunately maybe its just a place to hangout in the summer with a drink, the food we had at the weekend was below standard with a large pice tag! I had a Burger with chips and coleslaw, the burger bun was burnt and the chips was tasteless, the coleslaw looked like it had been hanging around for days and looked like it was just thrown on the plate. My partner had the club wrap which just looked like it had been pulled out from a supermarket with maybe two or three crisps on the small plate, my friend also had the Fish and Chips, the fish batter was soggy and didn’t look very appetising. Service wasn’t great neither, it took forever for them to take our order and we couldnt find anyone to get the bill? So i went up to the bar to pay, i don’t think they would have noticed if we had walked out though!!! Its a great place to get a drink but the food and service is below average!

Nice place to be when it’s sunny with plenty of seating outside although if its a lovely warm sunny day, you may struggle to find a seat/table. When you are sat outside, you get a nice view of the canal and surrounding area. As for the food, I went for the burger. It was a bit dry and salty which was a shame. I wouldn’t have it again. If you have a dog, they have a no problem with dogs being in the pub/bar. Not sure if they would be allowed in the restaurant bit though.

One of my fav places to go for Sunday lunch and for a drink in the winter. Went here with a friend for a few catch up drinks on Saturday night. It suited us perfectly as i had a sore throat from hell so shouting wasn’t an option and she had stuff to update me on so we grabbed a couple of big chairs and settled in for the eve. Bar is quite big and there is a variety of seating on multiple levels. There is also an upstairs area which has larger tables. They have a car park at the rear f the building and a large outside terrace that gets very busy in the warmer weather. They serve food until 10pm Monday — Saturday(9.30pm on Sunday) but we just opted for some of their tasty crisps i went for the chorizo flavour. I have eaten here before and can recommend their Sunday roast which comes with a selection of mashed veg, veg and the usual trimmings good Yorkshire pud too! Staff are friendly and efficient, apologising for a brief wait which wasn’t really a problem. They have a real fire(which was dieing down when we arrived but you could still smell the coal in the air!) so it’s a great place to curl up with a book and a glass of red on an Autumn day which i will be doing soon as the nights are drawing in now.

Castlefield is an area I’m really starting to rediscover after years of avoiding the area — too many dodgy nights in the likes of paint by numbers bar Dukes when I was working in my old job… But now I’m spending more time rediscovering gems that I’ve wanted to revisit for ages — ‘The Knott’(great food and beers) and taking on recommendations from friends and Unilocaler reviews. With that, The Wharf has been on my list of places to go for a while so with the sun shining and finishing some work for the day I headed down and grabbed myself a spot with ‘maximum ray-age’ The beer selection ranges from the standard lager pumps to a great selection of local craft beers and bitters(good prices too — my Brightside was only £3.50 a pint) and they also had a pretty decent range of bottles. From the looks of outside wine is definitely a big thing here with most of the patrons enjoying a bottle. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the wifi(free) was good and stretched far and the scenery and setting is fantastic. Just what you want in a place like this. Looking forward to going back.

I love The Wharf. It is a friendly, warm and relaxed pub with a great canal side location. Beer, great pub food and a fantastic view — what more can you ask for? The Wharf is a bit more upmarket than your local but despite it’s location in snooty Castlefield it doesn’t let the local want-to-be-seens dictate how it operates. The beer and wine selection is good and it offers a decent pub-grub menu. Not the best food in the world but it is reliable and tasty. It is a great place to come on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a drink with friends. There is a great outdoor seating area which gets a lovely dose of sunshine. If it is cold and miserable you can head inside and get cosy with nice fireplaces and wooden furniture. Lovely.

Lovely, huge outdoor area with benches and even a snazzy fountain. The Wharf is a great place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Just incase the sun doesn’t put his hat on – the inside is just as loveable as the out, even if it does remind you of a upmarket chain pub. Unfortunately, as with all of the pubs in this area, bar prices reflect it’s location and impressive sun terrace. For example, a large lemonade will set you back £3. Having said that — you’re canal side, it’s sunny and you’re surrounded by decent people — £3 is a small price to pay for those kind of treats. If you haven’t got £3 and don’t mind goose poop, there’s a patch of grass right next door which makes for a perfect city centre picnic spot.

Everyone has given this place raving reveiws and i have no idea why… maybe i went on a bad day? Dont get me wrong the setting is great, great outside area for those rare summer nights and inside is standard up market pub. We arrived at 6.30, tabel of 8 people, ordered drinks as soon as we arrived but it took a good 20 mins before anything arrived not great service. When the food finally arrived about 30 mins after ordering, the food was bog standard pub food with an usually high price tag. Im sure this is a great place for drinks and a bite with mates but i would attend if your out for a meal!

If, like me, you’re a city dweller but sometimes crave the quiet of the countryside without wanting to stray too far from home, Manchester’s Castlefield area provides the perfect location for a spot of lunch and a few drinks in almost tranquil surroundings(this may not be the case on Friday nights, mind). With its winding canals, abundance of colourful barges and geese bumbling along the waterways, Castlefield is one corner of the city you can count on for an almost-in-the-sticks experience. The Wharf has done a brilliant job in recreating that country pub look and feel. Whether you sit outside in the large beer garden with its pretty water fountain, overlooking the canal or inside, among the rustic décor and beneath the high barn-like roof beams, you’ll feel like you’re a million miles from Deansgate, despite it being a just five minute walk away. The food menu is excellent, offering everything from traditional roasts to sharing platters and burgers straight from the BBQ. We opted for the Seafood Platter, £25, which sounds pricey but was well worth it for the sheer variety(baby octopus, fried squid, salmon, prawns in marie rose, mackerel, smoked salmon… etc etc). Drinks-wise, we paid around £9 for two ciders(pint and bottle), which is about right these days. There are a good selection of ciders — they stock the obvious ones; Magners, Bulmers etc but also offer a few lesser known ones. We tried ‘Fiery Fox’, a golden, medium apple cider which was different to anything else we’d had before but definitely not unpleasant. So, would I go to The Wharf again? Well, the staff are friendly, service is good, the location picturesque, the food is excellent and the pub itself is unlike anywhere else I’ve come across in Manchester city centre(so far), so it’s a big fat YES from me.

A big pubco pub. Uh oh, you might be thinking. But in fact, as is common with Brunning & Price places, what they do, they do pretty well. A nice range of real ales kept in good condition, and solid pub grub served up nicely and at a reasonable price. Insanely busy on a hot day(last visit they ran out of all the potable lager), that’ll be due to the big sunny front area. Inside there’s plenty of places downstairs(think bar snacks) and eating tables upstairs. It’s the kind of place slightly shading on that chainy-feel, but executed so well, you can’t help but feel comfortable, and like the place.

I was here for a joint leaving/birthday do and had reserved a section of the place. The pub is very spacious and we had loads of room to mingle and chat to one another. Despite it raining, I ordered something from the bbq outside which was really tasty. Other people ordered lots of large platters which are great for sharing. The staff are really friendly and there seems to be a nice atmosphere. I will definitely visit again on a sunny day and make use of the large terrace outside.

On a cold, crisp evening there’s nothing better to do with a bunch of friends than cosy together round a table in the warm and inviting Wharf. The range of beers is impressive, pretty much a different one on each tap along the 15m(might be a slight exaggeration) of bar. Many guest ales, lots of choice, though on one visit there seemed to be a «Strong Beer Festival» or something which meant nothing below about 5.5%!!! Staff are friendly and courteous, the place is well presented and the walls of the clean facilities are festooned with interesting antique posters and flyers which make amusing reading. We go back fairly regularly because it’s a rare place to find enough seats to host a party as big as our regular crowd. On a warm, balmy evening, there’s nothing better to do with a bunch of friends than soak up some outside sunshine on the terrace at The Wharf. Well worth a visit. Enjoy.

So I was just trying to find a nice pub for lunch, and found this place which looked nice on the net. When I mentioned it to friends, they said«you must go there». It’s great I listened to them! The place is simply amazing. First the location, next to Castlefield, is just great. A beautifully restored building, with a huge terrace next to the canal. Inside you enter on a big space, open ceiling to the top floor, a warm friendly and relaxing atmosphere, and a very welcoming bar… Some big tables for groups, nice little alcoves also, fireplaces on the side, terraces,… We got seated upstairs, with a view on the water. Very cosy(next to a fireplace, must be great in winter ;-)) For the drinks: a very good choice of beers and wines, as well as spirits(it was lunch, so I stayed with beer ;-)), and quite a a few local draughts also. For the food: simply some of the best pub food ever. I got an amazing roast pork belly, just so tender and nice.(All that after delicious crab curry balls) And finally the service: extremely friendly and helpful. As a conclusion, a must go place in my opinion.

Great location, great building, great staff. Unfortunately the food we had at the outdoor BBQ was really poor. Not worth the £9 each we paid. Dry and uninspiring, no thought gone into any element of the dishes. Counted at least 5 ‘it would be better ifs’ while eating it. Shame, really like the place. I’m sure it’s a blip and the next time we go there it will be better.

Staggering around this area after a few drinks, we were really hungry(never go drinking on an empty stomach!). This place appeared out of nowhere and looked like somewhere that would do standard pub grub, but it turned out to be way better than that. The setting was really cool and you very quickly get used to the fact there are dogs all over the place — you can bring your dog along to the pub, perfect for a mid-walk lunch? On a recommendation from a friend I ordered a steak, which turned up with a stack of chunky chips, salad, mushrooms and cooked tomatoes. It didn’t look much but it turned out to be delicious, tender and very filling. The staff were friendly, and they made us feel very welcome even though we turned up 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. Overall, highly recommended — posh pub atmosphere, great food and you can bring a pet too!

Following the recommendation of a fellow Unilocaler, I decided to go and check this place out. Right on the canal overlooking a quaint little bridge with an enormous outside seating area which make it just perfect for those long lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoons with friends. Oops forget to add the magic ingredient, the sun. They have a good selection of beers on tap and the food is pretty good. I had the steakburger with chips and coleslaw on the side. Not the best I’ve ever eaten but good enough to keep a growing boy like me happy. The service admittedly is a tad slow and it is a little more expensive than your run of the mill boozer. If they fix these two small problems then I’m more than willing to give it 5 stars. Looking forward to the next lazy Sunday.

The Wharf is a lovely pub/bar/restaurant located by the canal in castlefield. The food was lovely, the drinks were great although a little bit pricey. The staff behind the bar didn’t exactly have much of a personality and were quite dry. The table staff who served our food were extremely friendly however. The best thing about The Wharf, is that you can bring your dogs to the venue and they provide water bowls for them. As a dog owner myself this is a fantastic added extra.

Shame on me — after living in Manchester for 3 years I have never been to The Wharf till yesterday! I have been to its next door neighbor Dukes a zillion times but never decided to check out this beautiful pub by the canal. Right next to the canal, boats and the pretty bridge stands this gorgeous pub. It has a massive outdoor seating area, whoever thought Dukes 92 was big needs to come here. Thankfully yesterday was a nice sunny day because its almost a crime to not sit here and sip on a chilled pint of beer and puffing an e-cig(yeah I am trying to quit smoking). My companions ordered for a British meat platter, Sea Food Platter, Cheese board and Steak — the food literally was the best pub food I have had in my entire life(no kidding). The portions were massive too and I pecked on every dish so I can confidently say I am going to go back there at least 4 times to have a full plate of each. Once it started to get a but chilly(its Manchester) we went in — Whoa it was BIG and when I say that I mean it. Spread across two floors and divided into several rooms which included a bar that looks like a study with a full wall of books, which I can imagine could be a great place to spend a whole afternoon! They also allow dogs to come in the bar which gives such an amazing homely feel to the pub(ahh I love puppies and doggies). The staff were also friendly and very lovely, the girl who was serving me added lime cordial in my drink instead of a lemon(that is what I asked for) and she was willing to replace the whole drink and make me a new one(of-course I did not let her I am not one of those horrible customers: p). This place is a bit pricey I have to say that but you know what its worth it because of the whole experience. The crowd here is mostly young corporates, I would imagine all the folks working around the area come here for dinner and drinks all the time and why wouldn’t they? Verdict: I can’t wait to go back again on a nice sunny day in Manchester to sit by the canal and have a massive British Meal Platter! nom nom

A welcome addition to Castlefield. The food is excellent it’s a really nice refurbishment inside and I really hope this place does well, I much prefer it to Dukes 92 as the menu is a lot more diverse and good vegetarian options too. Excellent wines, great views sat outside in summer.
