Not one of the better Wetherspoons I have been to. Forgettable would be the best way I could describe it. Does all the usual things that ‘Spoons does but has nothing in particular to recommend it. The pub is medium sized in the shape of an L, with the food area at the back. The toilets are a bit of a climb. Has a couple of TVs. and the bar is on the right. There were quite a few people in there, but it still felt pretty dead somehow. It used to be a gentleman’s outfitters apparently and it has taken its name from a pub that used to be next door. St Albans is spoilt for pubs that serve a variety of real ale, so this place’s only selling point are its prices.

This is a great pub to start an evening out, as there are usually a lot of deals on cheap drinks. Even without the deals, the drinks are very reasonably priced. The pub itself is well decorated, but is a bit dark as the lighting isn’t very good, and looks a bit scummy in places(particularly the ladies loos!). It tends to be quite packed up till 9.30−10pm on a friday or saturday and then it empties quickly(presumably as people head to the more expensive pubs that are open later!).
