Bertie’s is a pub I used to forget that it existed. That was because it called itself a wine bar and I find that poncey. Then, back in 1999 I found myself drinking here on most Friday nights. So, I was underage but it was a fave hangout of local office staff including those from Eidos Interactive. Berties to this day remains this office based crowd. Berties is also the downstairs bar from the Prince of Wales meaning access via the front door of the Prince opposite Wimbledon station. There is no food available in Berties, but it does sell more than just wine. It has lovely comfy seats, sofa and has a basement/wine cellar kind of feel. The bar is tiny so getting served can be hard and there are a few steps that are hidden from eye-level, so be careful. Also the toilets can be a bit minging considering the higher level of the furniture. Do come down here for the open mic night on a Tuesday. The musicians are great.

Bertie’s is the downstairs bar of The Prince of Wales but it has it’s own entrance and appears to be it’s own business. It’s a pleasant place to enjoy a drink with friends in its cellar like basement styled interior. On Tuesdays they have an open mic night which can be quite amusing and it’s the perfect place to start off a night on the town. They have a good wine list but they also serve beers, ciders and spirits. They also serve food, which i think is a little over priced for the quality of the food they offer, and in the summer have some lovely pitchers of Pimms. The staff are a bit hit and miss, they seem to change a lot. Some are great while others are a bit on the slow side but it’s still a pleasant place to enjoy a drink and they have a small courtyard area for the summer days and for the smokers out there.
