Club Fitness

After years of visiting what feels like every Club Fitness in the St. Louis region, I can confidently say that the Affton gym is the best of the lot. It’s well-​lit, has new machines, clean locker rooms, and great group classes. Everyone that I have interacted with has been friendly and helpful, from the front dest staff to the janitorial team.
This gym is 24 hours, and the parking outside is well-​lit, so you can feel safe walking in at all hours. I have not worked with any of their personal trainers, but the zumba and spinning instructors are helpful and encouraging.
A few tips to get the most of your experience:
I don’t recommend going on Mondays and Tuesdays between 5−8pm because that is when it seems to be the most crowded. I’ve never had trouble getting an elliptical/​cardio equipment, but parking and waiting for free weights during this time can be frustrating.
My only qualm is that many users do not wipe down the machines after use. This does not seem to be an issue with cardio equipment where there are sanitary stations at the ends of rows. However, this is not the fault of Club Fitness and I couldn’t knock off a star. Just be sure to wipe down your machines before and after use to be safe!

Rude and unhelpful. Teenager working at desk didn’t know what was going on. Then manager steps up and says NO 7 day passes with NO explanation. Then says you want to buy a membership? Today it’s a dollar. Uh, what am I buying. I haven’t even seen the place? A dollar for what? Enrollment? Monthly fee? He did not show me around or anything. Just go look around and come back to me when you want to buy. Totally unacceptable. I left with no pass, no nothing. You must not want my money very badly!

There’s SO MANY FREAKING PEOPLE HERE. When I was signing up, I toured around 7pm and, yes, I saw it was crowded, but was told their busy times are from 6−8ish, which would in a normal world, make sense. But this isn’t a normal gym, apparently, because between 8 – 10 when I go it’s still ALWAYS FREAKING BUSY! Full disclaimer I really only care about the squat racks… of which there are only two. This should be fine in a regular gym, but apparently this place has a bajillion members and is busy every time I want to come in, so squat racks have been taken every other time and I have to sit around waiting. Not a fan.
Not only have I had to wait for a squat rack, but I also have to wait for tanning. I only use the stand ups and normally it’s at least a 5 – 10 min wait… today it was 45 min!!! Also, this club fitness’s stand up beds suck; they are great if you enjoy tanning in an oven… because their fans might as well be nonexistent (and even the rooms themselves feel like a sauna). Compared to the beds at another gym I use that have fully functional fans and music, the ones at this club fitness are dreadful. I haven’t used the lay down beds… so maybe those don’t suck, but since I only use the stand ups it wouldn’t warm my heart if those were better :/​The front desk people are always super nice though, but it really can’t make up for crappy beds. Also, when I was signing up for my membership no one bothered to tell me you are only limited to level 1 and 2 beds and have to pay $ 40/​mo for the higher level beds or that tanning only goes til 10pm, which is pretty shady (but they sure tried to talk up the fact that they have tanning… among other tricks to try to convince u to join… just make sure you kno what you’re getting into before you come in for your membership). They clearly try to sell a bunch of memberships here, but seeing how place always seems to be overcrowded maybe they should stop trying so hard to get new members.
Everything else is great. It’s 24 hours (minus the tanning). The place is really clean (locker rooms are great). Equipment is nice (one of the cable machines was broken but got fixed in about a week, which is a good sign). They have a cardio theatre which is cute. And classes and massage chairs and a smoothie bar. Also, as I mentioned before, all the employees are super nice.
This place is less than half the price of my old gym and just as nice with more perks… but also about a billion times more people. I would love it here… if I could actually get a workout in without spending half my life waiting for equipment or crappy tanning beds. So if you don’t tan and you don’t use squat racks or work out during normal human-​awake-​hours (or if you enjoy waiting around for equipment to free up), this place would be great for you.

I’ve been going to gyms for almost 35 years (Gold, World, 24 hour fitness, etc…). I’d put club fitness toward the top for various reasons.
1) Many locations
2) Most are fairly large with much variety
3) Clean
4) decent equipment
I did the $ 379 for two years. How can you beat the price. Less than $ 200 a year. There are even many other choices that are cheaper.
If you workout on a regular basis its an easy decision to join.

Since my original review the sauna has been fixed, the leaks are fixed, the lot is apparently about to be relined, the stolen property was probably a fluke, and the GM does appear to care about the facility/​member experience. Lou reached out to address my complaints and I had quite a few. If you don’t mind the crowds or go during weird hours (I tried 10pm last night) this is a good gym.

Going from a private workout club to a multiple location establishment, we knew was going to take some getting use to however first impressions are important and this location did not give off a great one.
This is the closest location that has spinning so on the day I wanted to try it, I showed up 15 – 20 min before the start, and was very rudely informed that we have to sign up a week in advance (in person) and I was put on the wait list and I had to come back to the desk at the start of the class to see if I could get in. I was not informed of this when we originally signed up for the membership so as I tried to ask more for the future, another guest comes to the desk and the lady very rudely stops our conversation and decides to take care of the other guest. I went about a workout, then came up to the desk to sign up for the next time I’d be able to come to spinning.
I showed up for the 2^nd class with my husband who had also signed up, and the lady gives us a pass to go into the room. Once in there, there was only 1 open bike, 3 – 4 broken bikes and the instructor asked to see passes and the lady who was checking people in was giving the wait list people the pass for the people who were «guaranteed» a spot so our spots were already taken. I went back up to the check in lady, and while trying to figure out what happened this time with it all, she decides to stop our conversation rudely in the middle by answering the phone when there were 3 others around that could have answered.
That was my last straw and I asked to speak with the manager. He did listen to our concerns and chalked it up to new employees and the month of January but with my job I deal with people on a daily basis and new or not, there should always be a common courtesy given to each and every person encountered. I hope that this situation is used as a learning experience for the 2 girls above.
On our 3^rd attempt we were able to finally participate in spinning and loved every minute of it. I noticed a sign that said their earliest class at 530am was first come, first serve — I suggest that each class be like that to give everyone a fair advantage, especially people who can’t get in to sign up in person, or at least allow sign ups over the telephone.

I like this gym a lot. It is very clean, newer equipment, friendly staff and 24 hour access. The only problem is a couple of things behind-the-scenes…which have been promptly fixed. See below.
1) showers are what you would call lukewarm at best. There are many people from foreign countries here and they’re probably not used to real hot American showers, So they don’t care.
2) You get your butt up there to workout, It is a great incentive to have a sauna. however, this sauna is frequently broken. They claim it is because people pour water on the calls. But neither have I ever seen people do that nor have I ever seen a sauna where that was really a problem. It seems like an excuse not to keep the sauna in good repair
. Overall I would recommend this gym. Highly!

I’ve been a member here since the location opened. I must say I actually enjoy coming here! It is spacious, full of friendly people, and has all the amenities you could ever need. I mostly go for the group fitness classes, in particular Zumba and Yoga. The GF studio is twice the size of any of the other Club Fitness locations. If they ever got a barre inspired class going here I would be the happiest camper!!!

The cancellation process has taken 4 months and over $ 80.
Canceling a Club Fitness account requires a MAILED cancellation form and 30 days notice.
Use certified mail and make sure you get a confirmation! I mailed in my cancellation in July, and I’ve just been charged for September. I called Customer Service and apparently it was «lost» in the mail and they cannot do anything. Now I have to mail in another cancellation letter and will be charged for October too.

Best Club Fitness in St. Louis hands down… I say this with such confidence because I’ve been to them all. This one has plenty of nice new equipment and amenities such as daycare, massage chairs, tanning (lay down and stand up), cardio cinema, group studio, drink bar, saunas and friendly staff.
I live nearly 35 minutes from this location yet I travel for comfort and perks.

I’ve been a member of Club Fitness on and off, with the most recent month being a new period of «on.» I used to frequent the Lemay Ferry location. This time around I’m going to the Affton location, and I have to say … upgrade. I took Zumba at the Affton location last night, and it was nothing short of marvelous. I don’t find the club to be any more crowded than any other fitness club I’ve visited, and there were plenty of open machines at 6:30 when I was there. I’m not sure what people are griping about, saying it’s so crowded. I sometimes think people just like to complain.
I haven’t tried their smoothie/​protein shake bar, but it looked inviting and interesting, and if I happened to be starving hungry after a class, like I sometimes am, I would definitely give it a try.
The gym itself is clean. The class room where the classes are held is modern and welcoming, and the class I took was wonderful. I’m glad I’m back with Club Fitness again.

After going to the Hampton Village location, I had almost given up on Club Fitness (read my Hampton Village review for details).
My neighbor recommended this Club Fitness, saying that it was new and much much nicer than the one in Hampton Village. No more free weights dungeon, this place is well lit and everything is located on the ground floor.
I really don’t know where to start, there are so many great things about this place.
— All the equipment is new
— Great variety of exercise machines
— Plenty of cardio equipment
— Gym does not smell like sweaty towels
— There are massage chairs and tanning beds
— Plenty of plates so you don’t have to hunt around for them all over the gym
— Dumbbells go up to 100 lb, and I believe there are two sets of all the dumbbells
— Gym is very clean, probably because it’s new
— Lots of parking
— Locker rooms are very clean
— Really nice fitness room
— Cardio cinema room
— Childcare provided (check website for hours)
— 24 hour gym
— Best bang for the buck
The list goes on.
There are still people that don’t rack their weights and drop them, but hopefully that doesn’t become a trend at this gym.
Even though it’s about 10 mins further, this will definitely be my home Club Fitness.
