Mama Papa Lithuania Bakery

Wonderful unique European flavors!!! Excellent ingredients !! Try it ! Finally a European bakery for alameda. Next occasion we are ordering a cake!

I saw this place a while ago when they were still prepping for their grand opening. I finally got a chance to stop by today after a late lunch in the area. I think it was the owner who was there, she was a very nice woman. She offered me and my bf some cookie samples. I didn’t get any cookies this time but I’m probably going to next time. The woman was super sweet and had no problems answering my questions about the pastries. I ended up buying two Apple in Handkerchiefs and one Steamed Pastry with Chocolate and Caramel Cream. I haven’t tried them yet but they look super amazing. They accept all credit cards too! She recommended that I try the Honey Layered Cake (forgot what it was called) next time since it’s a popular item.

We just found this gem on Park Street and bought apple cake, honey cake and marshmallow. We brought the little cakes to a friends house for dinner and all shared an initial reaction of total delight! Each cake has its very own special blend of spice and sweetness (and not too sweet!) This bakery will succeed in its uniqueness. Very pleasant, unpretentious with little seats in the window for tea and cake breaks in the afternoon. This is truly a special new addition to Alameda’s dining fare.

bottom crust thick, top crust thinner with crispy characteristics, apple not slices, didn’t bother to tear it apart to analzye exact dimensions.

great for cold days (like –2 in lithuania)

garlic rye bread a definitely, but the loaf was so big!
–definitely a revisit when i pass by again.
–mama loves california climate, much more than Lithuania.
–goods may seem pricey, they are one of a kind on the west coast.

Time: 1:37pm/60°F cloudy
Purpose: Clients from east bay are going to be busy from here on till NYE. With more than seven places as priority, I better get my act together or else.
Ambiance: Bakery is adjacent to their restaurant with bakery part being a side business. Sidewalk seating is just a single table with two seats and barrels out front. Once inside, its all about couple of display showcases, a shelf, makeshift counter, and six cushion seater with back against window. Single 24′-inch round table is share among the seated. Most décor are that of repurposed wood and faux brick sheets look. Rounding place out overhead menu with all kitchen/​prep area inner back. Coffee are kept behind counter you simply pay and they pour it for you. Place is really quiet just natural surrounding area noise and kitchen activities. Every now and then, the owner would talk to who ever is seated.
Staff: Two ladies one of them mother of business and back of house worker. Later, I ask if her son was here? He wasn’t, and not sure if he’ll be back in later. Left it at that while salivating and fogging up display case. Donna is the mother and pastry chef. She explain to me what they specialize in with every item. She apologized to customers about her inability to understand english too well. Very warm personality and engaging. No matter who walk in, she ask that you try samples immediately. No pressure to buy, but wants people to eat her goods more than buying.
Cleanliness: Grade A, health score card along with permit/​license posted. Clean place as cookies are box, package, or wrapped up. Nothing expose only samples and boletus barauykai. Trash box provided for your convenience.
Eats/​Drinks: Lithuanian apple pie $ 3 and box of assorted cookies special price of $ 3 also. Apple pie was luscious and moist with real apple pieces embedded. Not too sweet just a perfect balance of apple to bread ratio. You can think of it as apple bread pudding in a bar crust form. My only mistake was, I didn’t ask for a corner piece. Love that scrumptious crunch. That’s the best part of eating pie is right? Box of assorted cookies were light and easy to crumbled so handle with care. That’s a good indication its made with 24 hrs. Tasted pretty standard not as rich and buttery, but would be a standout if given as a gift box. Best cookie I like would be the «kaspinelis» aka ribbon cookie. Not sure what its fill with, but slight crunch with puff pastry airy layers. Washing it down with bottle of Tazo Moroccan mint tea (self brought in).
Main Features: Real rye bread «juoda duona» and chewy garlicky bites. It’s basically same rye bread, but fried and infused with garlic pieces.
Products/​Services: Assorted cookies, cookie sandwich, bars, tarts, slices, fried bread, loafs, air pastry, pie, pockets, steam pastry, herbal tea, Lithuanian home style coffee, custom cake order, buy by weight or prepackage, samples, only hot drinks, takes plastic (no minimum).
Punch Lines: New shop, seats are minimal, better than average, décor leaves something to desired, pleasing flavors, moderately priced, personable staff, laid back, calm vibe, light bites, zippy service, can’t go wrong, shoe box size place, interesting takes, kept its standards, unpretentious, itty-​bitty.
Tradeoffs: Despite being a bakery most item here are sweet, not much savory choices. May be a problem for those watching their sugar level and weight.
Final Thoughts: It was my first time trying Lithuanian pastries. I compare it to Russian baked goods as both are made similar. However, before I came, I reach out to Victor G if he ever had it. He reply never, but if it taste as good as their adjacent restaurant offerings, its a clear winner. Guess what? He’s right. Great delectable treats good for afternoon snack without hurting your pocketbook significantly.

Never had Lithuanian pastries before. This may be good for Lithuanian pastries but I wouldn’t go again. Their apple cake was very tasty but the rest of what we bought was dry and hard. We bought three items the bill was $ 11. They only take cash. It was a little pricey! The Lady at the counter was very nice! Give it a try you may like it.

Yum, yum, yum… This place is a must. They have the best Rye bread garlic pieces. And the most amazing dessert. We tried the mushroom looking dessert and we can wait to go back for more.

I’m in love with this place! It is right down the street from my house. The staff are absolutely amazing! I love talking with them! And the pastries? So good! There has not been one thing that I have tried that I didn’t like. With amazing sweets and great staff, you can’t help but smile when you leave! It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I will definitely be spending a lot of time here!

Rye bread with garlic!!! LOVE IT! OMG little pastries with strawberry jelly, I was given one to sample by the lovely lovely pastry chef, I think her name is Dona? I turn to my boyfriend, «This is so good! Try a bite!» He swallows the whole thing. Me: «Nooooo!» :Laughter: We get a box and enjoy outside at one of the cute wine barrel tables. Gluten free treats available upon request, too. Excited to come back and try their teas ! This side of Park Street is so cute and full of hidden magic gems!

We went there today and found perfection. Only day 2 of this bakery being open and they knocked it out of the park. Dana was there with a big smile and warm personality to have us try a basket of samples, to see what we’d like. We had bits and pieces and decided on the little dough baked good that was wrapped around strawberry fruit. We also got the sweetheart cookie with I think, strawberry filling. Both were amazing, and just like the first Unilocal review, not overly sweet and perfectly made. She said to us that she has been making these treats for 40 years… that’s amazing, and longer than I’ve been around :) Such a cozy interior with an array of seat cushions near the window and exposed wood and brick and whites and light blues and grays… I can’t wait to try their coffee or teas and sit down on there and attack that delicious looking mushroom coated with chocolate on top next time… wowowowow. So happy to live close by this place and excited to try many of their treats. Great prices, great service, great atmostphere… you get the point. Go to there :)

I went in there today and sampled a big variety of their pastries. They are definitely different than what you will find in other bakeries in Alameda. Super tasty, not too sweet, and very fresh european style pastries.
The rye bread with garlic?! Having trouble stopping myself from finishing the whole bag.
Great to see a good business expand.
