I purchases a Grandma necklace for my mother for Christmas online. While the Grandma title was nice, the chain was so freaking cheap! Within 4 weeks, the chain broke. My mother only had worn the necklace 3 – 4 times. It just simply broke. We went to the Amsterdam, NY store and what a nightmare. Let me say that the one woman who waited on us was very nice and I think she truly tried to help. I basically had to pay to get a better chain and then $ 28 dollars for each side to get it soldered! The necklace was priced at $ 130; I spent almost $ 200 when it was all said and done! And the bullshit part is that the necklace broke after 3 – 4 wears in 4 weeks! I should have been covered under some sort of warranty since it was such a short period of time. For the last 10 years, I had gone to Kay’s once or twice a year, religiously, to get my mother jewelry. However, the last 5 years, the jewelry is just so cheap: cheap looking, cheaply made. The craziest part is that JCP seems to have nicer jewelry. I’d never thought I’d say that. However, after this last experience, the cheapness of the chain, the rude representatives, no one willing to help make a customer happy… I will NEVER buy anything off of Kay’s again for as long as I live. Now I just hope and pray they actually fix the necklace correctly. FYI: educate yourselves before you go to Kay’s: Tons of complaints.

Dropped off a ring to get repaired, and they quoted 2 weeks, but never called me back. Tried calling multiple times and it always rung busy. 1 month later I get to pick up the ring. Poor service.

It’s a chain jewelry store, but it’s really not that bad. They carry Bulova watches, which I happen to really love. I was at Crossgates for something else, but before I left, I stopped by Kay to check out watches. I wasn’t exactly in the market for a new watch, but plans change when you come across something that you like… I ended up getting a self-winding Bulova. The price wasn’t the best I’d seen(compared with some Internet-based places), but it wasn’t such a huge deal for me under the circumstances, especially since they ended up giving me a «discount» that knocked it down to about the right pricing. I’m happy with the purchase and would be willing to do business with them again.

The sales woman did not like the ring I picked out. I was very, very aware of this the entire time she was trying to talk me into getting something else. Way to make me feel good about my purchase. On top of that, the price she quoted was three times what the ring costs at Jared(and it’s even less expensive online). They had the exact same ring in white gold and platinum. The current price difference between gold and platinum is $ 7/ounce. To explain the difference in prices between the two rings, it would have had to weigh approximately 122 ounces. That’s roughly the weight of a newborn. The primary reason that we went to Kay was that we expected it to be reasonably priced, but what they were asking for a plain, un-embellished wedding band, with no stones and no engraving was just obscene. I really felt like she was pushing us to buy the ring(which was weird, since she so clearly hated it), and I didn’t understand why, until I realized that we could save at least $ 600 by getting it somewhere else.
