I recently bought a townhouse in Springfield that was in dire need of a new HVAC system. I think the original system must have been pretty close to 40years old and wasn’t working well at all.
I called eight different HVAC companies for quotes… that’s right, EIGHT of them. Each appointment took anywhere from 2−6hours, so it was a grueling process. I started to fall asleep with a couple of them because they were so long winded and got angry with a couple of them because they completely ignored the fact that it was HOURS past lunch time — I’m not kidding.
The ninth call was to Mr. Kim. He evaluated the system and made his recommendations. The initial quote was startlingly low (compared to the other eight) so I thought something must not be right. I took one of the other higher estimates and jotted down the Carrier models (both heater and A/​C) and asked him to give me a new quote. He came back with another quote which was slightly higher than his first quote. I was a little suspicious at first until it hit me that this was a very small operation and probably doesn’t have high overhead costs. All of the other companies sent «comfort specialists» to give me the sales pitch. So, with money being tight and not looking forward to living further on Ramen noodles, I hired Mr. Kim.
All I can say is, BOY AM I GLAD I HIRED MR. KIM! The A/​C is working flawlessly (haven’t had to run the heater so I cannot comment on that — I’ll find out this winter). I was also very pleasantly surprised that Mr. Kim threw in some added niceties that was not a part of the quote and he didn’t nickel and dime me to death — things like disposal fees, saving me hundreds of dollars. He noted that my son has asthma and put in (WITH NO CHARGE) a UV light into the system to kill off any bacteria and mold! In the end, ended up with a very nice Carrier system with variable speed an A/​C with a higher SEER rating than ones quoted by the other companies.

1. You would like a higher end system because you are an HVAC snob
2. Money is tight and/​or you are a tightwad
3. You have the money for HVAC saved — 777 Mechanical is too small to offer financing
4. You don’t mind working with a very small company who doesn’t have uniformed personnel
5. You are patient and will concentrate when conversing — Mr. Kim speaks English very well but it’s not his native language so he speaks with an accent and some of his pronunciations will throw you a bit.
6. If you are able and willing to be nice! Mr. Kim is a very tender-​hearted guy and being rude or mean to him is like kicking a puppy!
