History

Established in 1980.

Opening in the Georgetown Markethouse in 1980, our little shop quickly became popular with designers and event companies and our work was featured in homes and large venues all over town. Eventually we moved to a much larger space in Alexandria Va. to accomidate our growing business and our expanding product lines. Today we do work for all the major event companies and create designs for all occations, large and small that we deliver throughout the entire metropolitain area.

Business Owner

After teaching art in North Carolina for a few years, Mr Sutton went back to school to study horticulture, and then moved to the Washington DC area in 1976. In a popular retail flower shop he learned the daily opperations of a small flower business and struck out on his own when an opportunity presented its self to open a shop in a newly renovated Georgetown markethouse building. His modern or traditional designs have continued please a growing number of corporate and private clients ever since. He and his staff look foreword to working with you to creat the perfect large event or pitite centerpiece for you next gathering!

My boyfriend suggested this place, and I saw he flowers he purchased my mother for an event a couple months ago and agreed to go today. In short: Absurdly expensive for less than stellar bouquets. I got a very small assortment of flowers, sans the pretty frilly decorative plants that normally accompany bigger bouquets, and spent over $ 60. I could have purchased a similar, most likely finer, bouquet at a grocery store for maybe around $ 15. Now I have a handful of wilting moist flowers and some thorny rose stems and spent my entire weekend budget. Extremely disappointed. Also, after he rang me up, he asked my boyfriend for his credit card without giving me the total. I was absolutely flabbergasted when he told me how much it cost after I asked for the total. Total scam.

Ordered same delivery flowers and they were delivered in a timely manner and looked beautiful. I didn’t get a confirmation when I purchased the flowers, but the store was really helpful over the phone and called me to give me an eta on the delivery.

I could do better myself… recognizing that Valentine’s is a busy time for florists, but I am disappointed in the bouquet my BF no doubt spent big bucks to have delivered. The stargazer lillies are at the very end of their life and were wilting at delivery, heads on gerbera daisies were drooping at delivery. all in all, disappointing flowers.

Okay! I have lived in Alexandria for thirty five years. There is now a bit to bitch about but this is not one of them. These guys are the bomb. I would not presume to tell them how to do their work because they NEVER disappoint. Everyone has an off day so after reading the some of the silly complaints I guess that is what went on.
Jerry and Tom are great and their work is excellent.
I am on my way their now to pick up a couple of bouquets.

I’ve been visiting Foxglove for the last couple of years. The owner is the nicest guy, and he really cares about what he’s doing. I’m a big fan of telling him how much I want to spend, pointing out a flower or two that I think are nice, and letting him just do his job. Usually he makes the bouquet with a wide variety of flowers (which is what I want him to do). I have also bought straight bouquets of a single type of flower. Every time I’ve bought my wife flowers from an online company near her DC office, they’re ok. Every time I’ve bought her flowers from Foxglove, she’s amazed. I even brought my mom there to show her– she was really impressed. I suggest you go in so you can tell him what you’d like– and he’ll make sure it’s perfect and reasonably priced.

I received a Valentine’s Day arrangement from this place and I felt terrible for my friend that he had paid for such a lousy bouquet. All the roses, lilies and snapdragons were half dead; the unopened lily buds were either shriveled or had broken off; and the tulip leaves we’re already starting to yellow. I was embarrassed for the florist for sending such a lousy arrangement. I did not have the heart to throw away the bouquet since it was a sweet and thoughtful gift from a friend who lives far away but I will never use Foxglove Flowers.

I have used Foxglove twice. The first was just to purchase a single rose back in the summer ’13. Great quality and the rose last weeks. The second was recently just after work on a cold Monday evening. I simply needed a small bouquet of flowers to add to a gift. I received great service and very helpful recommendations for my options. The service was great, the price was very reasonable (surprisingly reasonable actually) and the flowers were a hit. Satisfied customer here!

Tom at Foxglove Flowers is great. I gave him a pretty modest budget for our wedding and he was able to make arrangements that fit my vision at the price point I indicated. He worked with me to sub in less expensive flowers that still achieved the same feel. My bouquet was great. Everything was on time.

A local friend presented me with a gift from this florist, and recommend them. Today I called to order several bouquets over the phone. Politely asked if he could call me back in 5 – 10 min. Half hour later the shop called and apologized for the delay. The gentleman complained he couldn’t understand me a number of times (odd). After talking my order of four bouquets, he was unable to process my credit card with two attempts due to «unspecified error». I checked my credit card online — no problems. (I used it elsewhere in Alexandria 2 hrs ago.)
If you’re going here, go in person. The online and phone results do not seem very good.

We have ordered several times from Foxglove Flowers, and have always been pleased with the results. Foxglove is a small, nicely decorated local florist on Quaker Lane right at the Edge of Fairlington. Tom, the owner, is accessible, friendly and very fair.
We have used Foxglove primarily to create and deliver large centerpieces of flowers for parties and special events. The arrangements have been outstandingly beautiful, and we will definitely use Foxglove flowers again.

A small place packed full of plants, from ‘room-​temperature’ greenery to refrigerated cases prepared/​potted bouquets and individual flowers. The gentleman who was there when I stopped in was very friendly and happy to answer questions. This could probably gain an extra star from me, but I went in to wander and eventually made a simple purchase so I didn’t really give the friendly man an opportunity to show what he could do. I’ll probably be back though!

Rude, rude, rude. After ordering flowers over the phone, I was unable to pick them up that evening before they closed. I called the next day trying to go by and get them but was informed I wouldn’t be able to make it before the man wanted to close the store. He kept telling me to call back the next day and speak to someone else (and by then the flowers would have been 2 days old before picked up). The man was incredibly rude and hateful and when I went into the store to pick them up he was unapologetic. The flowers were fine, but I would never buy from them again because the service was entirely unacceptable. I can safely say I have never been treated that poorly by any store in my entire life.

The staff at Foxglove created stunningly beautiful floral arrangements at the wedding reception venue for our daughter and son-​in-​law. This was a particular challenge the Saturday before a very busy Mother’s Day!
I interviewed several florists before selecting Foxglove. During the interview process, I told the florists my budget and then listened — for creativity and flair; for a willingness to incorporate my ideas in an overall vision for the project; for a sense of enthusiasm about our wedding; and for a comfortable fit with my quirky sense of humor. Tom at Foxglove fit the bill.
During the weeks preceding the wedding, Tom was responsive and helpful. As a gardener, I have very specific plant material likes and dislikes. I expressed them frequently. Tom had very specific creative ideas which he skillfully supported. Through a healthy give and take, our visions melded with no clashes or angst!
Foxglove produced a sample arrangement for me and a final version emerged. Again, working together.
No bride or mother of the bride should be intimidated by a florist into accepting flowers she does not love or that she cannot afford. That is why I am so appreciative of the team at Foxglove. They were ever conscious of producing the best floral displays within our budget, using the flowers I wanted and the varieties Tom suggested. The final product was stunning. The bride’s bouquet, a modified cascade, was perfection, and the reception room exceeded our expectations. To extend the magic, we used the flowers again for the brunch on Mother’s Day!

A note on the negative reviews on this site: I am struck that someone considered the owner «rude.» In my experience, he is matter-​of fact, but never rude. Younger, less experienced customers may not be able to differentiate. Someone else complained about delivery. Ican only imagine that scheduling deliveries can be a little haphazard for any small business owner. A shop should not be held to the Fedex «when it absolutely positively must be delivered by…» standard. If flowers must arrive at a specific hour, pick up the arrangement and present it yourself. Scheduling can depend on many factors — traffic, destination, busy weekends, wholesale deliveries, etc. Be a little forgiving of small business foibles and appreciate instead the beautiful final product!

Just a bizarre and unpleasant experience.
For those ordering through the web, take heed: apparently, «today means anytime before midnight» is how my experience with Foxglove flowers ended on a totally botched, frustrating and downright offensive episode that was intended to make for a fantastic Valentine’s weekend surprise. There are major issues with the service and, at least from my experience, Foxglove is not only undependable but downright rude and nasty.
Perhaps it is different if going to the shop itself, or using their full-​on wedding services. If not, my advice is to definitely stay away at all costs. There are plenty of other options out there.

Indeed, it is an upscale florist, However, their prices are very reasonable. But let’s start from the beginning.
I just got married last week, and as most wedding-​related items I found flowers in this area to be incredibly overpriced. Unfortunately, I was only checking out vendors listed on major wedding websites because we didn’t have much time to plan the wedding. Although Foxglove is around the corner, and I always loved their flowers, I just never asked for a quote. Until a couple of weeks before the wedding. And it was one of the best wedding decisions I’ve made. Except the great guy I married, obviously :-)
I gave Tom a general idea of what I wanted, and basically let him do the rest. Their flowers are really beautiful so I trusted his taste. I was only particular about the color of the roses in my bouquet. The bouquet was gorgeous, and so were the centerpieces. They also made our pew bows, and they were beautiful as well.
Tom and Bill also accommodated the last minute change in the number of centerpieces we needed without any problems. I don’t think they had to do it as we had already paid the bill in full and it was very late notice, but I really appreciated the fact that they accommodated our request. Tom also set up all the pew bows although that was actually the job of our wedding coordinator.
All in all, I had gorgeous wedding flowers at a reasonable price and with outstanding customer service. It really doesn’t get any better than that. I would give them 6 stars out of 5, if Unilocal only let me do it.

After being told either «we don’t do same day delivery» or «you must have a budget of at least $ 80 to send through us» this florist was great, professional and accommodating. I sent $ 50 of seasonal flowers to a friend in Alexandria and she said they’re lovely. Delivered in early afternoon with a 10am order. Total bill including tax and delivery fees was around $ 62. Great deal. I’ll use them again!

Foxglove Flowers is a wonderful little floral shop in Fairlington Shopping Center on Quaker Lane in Alexandria. The cozy shop is packed with creative arrangements of flowers (from little to large!), realistic artificial plants, beautiful wreaths and garlands, and imaginative gift items. The fresh flowers for arrangements are *very* fresh, fragrant, vibrant, and long-​lasting. Their staff is usually very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful — from their cashiers to their delivery people.
Foxglove Flowers has a great website, too, with accurate pictures of arrangements for purchase and delivery. Their prices may be somewhat more expensive than FTD or 1−800-Flowers, but you are paying for incredible quality and service, fabulously beautiful flowers, and are supporting a wonderful local shop.
