Founded by Michael Gilmartin, Olympia Moving was founded as a small Boston moving company. Michael & his team established their reputation by smashing the average mover stereotype and working harder, faster, and providing exceptional customer service. His team amazed their first clients by running up & down stairs in historic Boston walk-​ups.

Since then, Olympia Moving & Storage has grown significantly, with the addition of interstate, international, and commercial services and 5 warehouses in 3 states. I was born in Massachusetts and graduated from of Northeastern University. I worked my way through college at a local moving company; which led me to found Olympia Moving in 1993. There is a true sense of satisfaction in helping a family to relocate to a new home, and I have tried to instill this in all of my employees. I am proud of the company I have built and it has been exciting to manage Olympia’s growth from a single truck operation to more than 250 employees. We have become a trusted name in the moving industry; but our progress continues to be fueled by word-​of-​mouth. My experience has been that when you deliver on your commitments and provide a superior client experience, you create customers for life.

Simply the best move –best movers– Ive had in over 25+ years in the military. Could not be happier with their speed, care of my household goods and furnishings. I moved a full 2BR 2 Bath apartment across town. I contracted Olympia to pack and move. Since this was the first time I planned and paid for my own move I was very leery. Thanks to Ryan and his team, I had nothing to worry about. The process started with an email to them. They followed up with a detailed called where Ryan asked me to describe what I wanted done. After I accepted the estimate I received instructions to prepare for the move. Moving day: the crew arrived early and attacked the job at hand. They were careful, courteous and honestly the most time-​efficient crew Ive seen in 11 moves. At delivery: the crew offloaded and got my stuff in the apartment using their army of ancillary moving equipment (boxes and dollies) in under 40 minutes (including elevator rides to the 20th floor). I paid just under what I was quoted. Id recommend this company to anyone. I will use them again. Nothing broken. Best service Ive used.

This is the best moving company I’ve ever worked with. The sales rep took time to really understand our needs, which included moving out some large furniture we didn’t want to keep. He arranged for a charity to come with its truck to pick the items up as soon as the crew had moved them out of our house. The administrator who arranged the details of our move was thoroughly professional, keeping us informed and attending promptly to all our questions. And the crew was outstanding. The elevator in our building was being repaired, so they had to carry our things up four flights of stairs! They did so without damaging any of our furniture. They were very personable, especially the crew chief. I would recommend Olympia without reservation.

This is the best moving company ever! Very professional office staff and movers. Good, competitive prices. They were able to quickly come out to provide a quote. They accommodated our preferred moving date. On the moving day, they showed up on time and took great care in moving our belongings. I highly recommend them!

I just moved from DC to Raleigh NC, and these guys made the whole process go much more smoothly than I expected. I’ve heard mover horror stories, so I prepared myself for the worst, but really — they were great. The office staff provided a clear and honest estimate, and followed up with me before, during, and after the move. The packers arrived 10 minutes early, were very polite, and extremely efficient. The movers also arrived on time in NC, and they got me into my new place quickly. I got a couple other estimates, and can say their pricing was very fair. Best of all — everything arrived in perfect condition.

I truly enjoyed working with Olympia Moving and Storage. The entire process, beginning with my sales meeting with James on through to the appointment and prep working with Candace to the packing day and moving day. They were efficient, professional, courteous, and extremely hard-​working. I can’t say enough about how terrific they were to work with as we moved our family out of DC and into the suburbs (MD).
The packers and movers were especially considerate of our family’s needs, asking the right questions and being flexible as to how we packed the truck and unloaded it. At our new home which was renovated, they were careful around the new floors, new carpeting in the basement, and all the newly painted walls as well. Not a scratch in the house! Our team was led by Roshod (may have spelled his name incorrectly), and he was a true professional — so good at his job and took pride in his work.
I highly recommend Olympia Moving for anyone in the DC area!

I used Olympia for storage and moving between April and June of this year. Unfortunately the experience was riddled with problems. But I appreciate that they made a significant effort to compensate me and were accountable for any missteps.

After a terrible previous moving experience with a different company no longer in business, I was very cautious about who I hired for my most recent move. But this time every aspect of scheduling and going through the move was great. Coordinator was very helpful, movers were very professional and hard-​working, and it surprisingly even came in just under what I had been quoted. I would definitely consider using them again.

These guys rock. I recently used them for a long-​distance move (500+ miles). I had never used movers before, so I was a little nervous, but it went flawlessly. One of the guys worked both locations and drove the truck down… he was awesome. In both locations, they finished early. And the final cost was several hundred dollars under the estimate.

So far, Olympia has been mostly excellent. They packed and moved us out of our home and into storage, and will move us to our new home hopefully in a few months. They seemed to pack most everything very carefully, with a few exceptions — they failed to wrap my wrought iron living room tables (a coffee table and two end tables) or my wrought iron lamp in anything at all, so they were just getting banged around and scratched. I discovered this only after visiting the storage warehouse to retrieve some items, and asked the man who was helping me to please wrap them up, which he did, but the damage has already been done — my items are scratched. Hopefully they can be repaired or replaced. Olympia did, however, appear to have carefully wrapped/​packed our other items, but the proof will be in the pudding, as they say, when we are moved into our new place and can see everything again. I hope all of our china and fragile kitchen appliances survived. I’ll post an update in a few months.

We had a great experience with Olympia moving. We found out about them through our relator. Our move was in two stages, first a move to a storage locker and then a move to a our new home several months later. Both moves went well, the team did a great job taking apart and reassembling our bed and took good care not to bang up our walls. The short move ended up costing us more than the estimate, but not too much more. The full move into our new home was right on target. Our new home is a four story townhouse and the three guys who came to move everything in had no trouble pulling all of our 20 some boxes of books up the three flights of stairs to our office. On the whole, the service was great.

Fabulous movers! They were professional, careful, quick, and worked hard. Nothing was broken and they worked until the end. They made sure my furniture was where I wanted it and were willing to help rearrange furniture after it was placed. The move was within the estimated time as well. Highly recommend them!

We live on the third floor of a walk-​up building and purchased a custom sofa that turned out to be too large for our stairwell. After searching for solutions, we learned that Olympia could actually hoist the sofa from the ground, over our balcony, and into the living room. I was skeptical of this at first, but they assured us it was possible. They were right! I am attaching photos of the process, as words won’t do it justice.
They wrapped our sofa to make sure it wouldn’t be damaged. Ironically, a leg broke off while they were doing so, but the sofa was not otherwise damaged and we purchased their insurance option. They then attached several nylon ropes to hoist the sofa up, with one rope used as a guide to make sure it didn’t bang into the balconies below us. Once the sofa was at the top, it was incredibly difficult to get over the balcony railing, taking 4 men using all of their strength to do so, but they did it! They then removed the balcony door and brought the sofa in.
The men were very professional from start to finish. The entire process was a bit pricey, but in the end, I’d say it was worth it given our alternatives. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Olympia for a similar job in the future (i.e., when it’s time to get the sofa out!).

We just moved this past weekend and I am completely disgusted by our experience with Olymipia. They started charging us from when they left, therefore we were charged for 45 minutes before they even arrived at our apartment. We ended up being charged DOUBLE our estimate. I’m still confused as to how a 6 hour move turned into a 12 hour one? Our issues are as follows:
1. The movers only marked 30 minutes for lunch but I can’t see how that was possible because we got to the house 2 hours before they did and the house was only a 35 minute drive.
2. The movers broke one of the granite slabs on our dining table and they also cracked our son’s crib in two places. We were told at the end of the night that we could purchase the $ 75 insurance and that we would have a $ 100 deductible on top of that should we want to make a claim. Nice…
3. The worst part of this experience is that my husband has been trying to contact the company several times per day since Saturday and has not received a call back. Their booker, Jennifer keeps promising that we will get a call to discuss the situation but we are still waiting 6 days later. We’ve told her that we are planning on contesting the charge on our credit card but still, no call back. I would never use this company again.

We recently moved from an 8th floor condo in Arlington to a single family home in Alexandria, with a stop in Falls Church to clear out a storage unit. Olympia Moving & Storage was recommended by our real estate company. I made the call on a Friday morning and someone came out that afternoon to access the job. I had received other quotes but felt more comfortable with someone actually seeing what we had to move. There was also a sectional we were concerned about, given the difficulty we had with moving it into the condo.
We received a call 30 minutes before their arrival on the day of the move. The crew did a walk through and the work began. Everything went as well as expected. They even got the sectional out of the condo without incident. We made the stop in Falls Church and proceeded to Alexandria. It was after 3:00 p.m. when we left Falls Church and the afternoon commute had begun. The move went just a little over the estimated time. Traffic may have played a part in this. We were all moved in by 7:00 p.m.
The crew was efficient, courteous and professional. Everything was placed in its appropriate place, including the clumsy sectional. Nothing appears to have been broken.
We were very pleased with Olympia Moving & Storage. We hope never to move again but if we do, we would definitely use Olympia Moving & Storage.

So my now-​wife and I moved yet again and went with Olympia Moving. As before it was a great experience from start to finish. It was a local move within DC proper.
The truck was a few minutes late but with DC traffic being what it is that’s to be expected.
There were some challenges with getting some pieces of furniture out of the old apartment that we were expecting (door had to be removed and couch legs had to be take off) but this was discussed during the estimate, and the final bill was only about $ 30 above what they quoted.
The crew was fantastic as they were on the previous moves. They were courteous, efficient and respectful of our belongings.
We are now 3 for 3 with Olympia and I will absolutely be calling them again if the need arises. As before, I recommend them without reservation.
