Specialties
I am a voice teacher /vocal coach/performance and acting coach.
I view the voice as a manifestation of the self. As we explore and expand the voice we do the same thing with our selves. Therefore, working with the voice can be a profoundly empowering, healing, and transformative process.
People work with me for all sorts of reasons. I work with professional actors, singers, activists, teachers, the LGBTQ community, and more. I have a special focus in working within the transgender community. I work with both the speaking and singing voice. Whether you are looking to expand your range, or find your true voice, I firmly believe that everyone can sing.
My teaching largely draws on my background in the Roy Hart Theatre Voice Work, and Kristin Linklater’s approach to ‘Freeing the Natural Voice. My role is more accurately described as facilitator and guide, as the individuals find their own pathways into different areas of the voice, and explore their vocal geography.
History
Established in 2008.
I began teaching voice because several groups and individuals asked me to lead workshop. The groups included an activist marching band and a couple of different theater collectives who were interested in my training in Linklater’ s approach to ‘Freeing the Natural Voice,’ and in the Roy Hart Theatre Voice Work.
At the same time, someone very dear to me complained that the effects of hormone treatment meant that they could no longer sing. «You can still sing!» I proclaimed, and since then I have been committed to bringing the specialized vocal approaches I learned in my theatre training to the transgender community.
Since then, I have been teaching private lessons, classes and workshops. I have taught in San Francisco, Austin, London, Berlin, Toulouse and more.
