I was sitting in my car at a red light in old town Alexandria and watched a female postal carrier cross the road carrying a large package and some loose mail. She dropped the loose mail in the middle of the road. She looked down, and then kept right on walking. Never picked it up, and a few minutes later walked back by it after delivering the package and stepped over it on the way back to her postal van and drove away.
I tried to call the post office twice to report this but got no answer.

Okay, so I’m a bit jaundiced about going into post offices. This one is quick and convenient and relatively easy to get in and out of. The lady behind the counter was friendly and efficient and got me out the door within several minutes of arriving. The hours are limited and it should reflect 10 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Also, realize that the parking behind the building is permit only and your subject of towing if you park there for longer than a couple of minutes. You can park on the street but it can be a little challenging during the middle of the day otherwise, this is a good post office.

Best experience at a post office in DC/VA yet. I was in and out with a whole package in under three minutes and the lady was so kind and helpful. She even gave me a box for free. Granted this was at 2 on a weekday but there was no one else inside.

This post office is situated in historic Old Town Alexandria. George Washington’s church is next door. Robert E. Lee’s boyhood home is across the street. The seeds of the country were sown here.
Coincidentally, this is the birthplace of something else.
You know the stereotype that government employees are lazy, rude, and inefficient?
That stereotype was born in this post office, on this street corner.
And the employees here hold true to those very ideals still today.

Pro: close to a bunch of other shopping.
Cons: Almost always a line, small, dingy.
Bottom line: If I need to mail a package, I’ll probably go here. But I won’t do it if I’m pressed for time.

I went to this post office today to buy stamps for my wedding RSVP envelopes. The woman working there, Felicia, spoke to me like I was deaf and a complete moron. I did not particularly like the cheesy gold wedding band stamp that she showed me, so I asked if there were any other choices… even if it wasn’t meant for a wedding. She kept loudly saying that stamp prices went up on May 11^th… so I’m guessing that means that they had limited choices. I asked if any other post office may have other stamps, and once again she loudly repeated that prices went up on May 11^th. A simple no would have sufficed.
