This is awful. All of the food was cold, tasteless and appeared as though bit had been out for awhile. I have been to the Golden Coral numerous times and each time it has been very low quality. The Golden Coral is nothing compared to The Old Country Buffet. My son did like the chocolate fountain though. Probably won’t be back.

I applaud them for all this Company does for Veteran’s! And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. The pot roast is excellent. And the fried chicken is also good. But three things need to be changed at all the places nationwide. First off when you get there. The place is like entering a ride at a amusement part. Going through a maze so you can pay. Secondly the whole thing with the cashier taking your money, and getting you your drinks is very bad! Causes delays, and is not welcoming and friendly. Third the place needs to look like a restaurant, not a mess hall. Fix the place up and make it customer friendly.

hey this place is great. went for breakfast and they had the good stuff. bacon, eggs, hash browns, grits, flapjacks, sausages(patties AND links), rivers of warm maple syrup, oceans of hot coffee, mountains of real french toast. you can get a real omelette and also donuts. go early and often!

I’m surprised by the variety of reviews. I guess it depends on when you’re there. We gave this place three chances, mainly because my kids like to eat a variety and they like buffets. Me? Not so much. I like to order what I want and have it delivered to my table hot and fresh. First, we walk in and only one register is open, right behind our cashier is several bus pans full of filthy dishes. I should have just walked out right then and there, but no, we continued in. The salad bar was a complete mess, food everywhere, clearly no one had attended to it. The restaurant as a whole was dirty with food and mess all over the carpet. I skipped the salad bar as I wasn’t going to pick through the mess for what I wanted and if it hadn’t been cleaned up then I’m also sure no fresh food has been put out for a long time. Ick! Off to the soups. Crusty, dried up containers. No spoons. Again, moving on… The food containers were half filled at best and the food was not at all appetizing. I ended up with some tortilla chips and some cheese on top. That was my dinner for almost $ 11.00. My daughter is a vegetarian and at the time there was a person grilling steaks, seafood etc. He either didn’t understand English, or didn’t wish to speak, but she asked for shrimp and got a steak. I took the steak and pointed to the shrimp. It was then that she finally got the shrimp. Dried and tasteless. I go to get a steak knife to try the steak, as tortilla chips don’t really fill you up. No steak knives. An employee was filling the cart with clean plates… the cart was dirty where she was filling it and had a hunk of what looked like wet bread. She just left it and stacked the plates on it. Really? Took quite a while to get a steak knife and 3 different people. Finally gave up and didn’t bother eating the steak, it was cold and icky looking by then anyway. Dessert area was pretty much empty and what was there looked dried up and gross. The chocolate fountain was running with nothing but mushy strawberries and a couple of marshmallows there for you to use. No thanks… There are so many wonderful restaurants in the area… I will NEVEREVER go here again, even if it was free. Also, do something with your employees. Make them happy, hire different people… they all look miserable. Think twice before coming here, it’s too expensive for such a filthy place with dried up disgusting food. Geeze, right across the street is Chili’s Restaurant for example. Great food, served hot and fresh and less than $ 11.00. If you don’t like Chili’s even Sonic drive thru is better.

This buffet has gone down hill. I was so excited when they first opened. It was clean, the food was plentiful. And now, the servers are stretched thin, there’s more empty pans that pans with food in them, the managers are NOT helpful. It’s an absolute disaster. I can’t imagine the owner of this franchise is ever present because the place is falling apart with the quality and service. I had a bad experience about 6 months ago and no one called me or contacted me regarding my issue. False advertisement was the issue.

Selection is absolutely horrible! You can tell they are struggling financially. When the main meals are turning into pancakes and french toast(not the nice fluffy ones at that) it says a lot. Sorry but after going there 3+ years and watching the decline they lost our business.

Horrible.dirty.disgusting.cold tough food. Go to the Elgin location it is excellent. after going to the Elgin location we figured we’d check out the Algonquin one. so disappointed this place is so dirty and the staff sucks. the food is horrible and not kept up well. we gave this place two tries and it was the same each time… it sucks because it’s one of the only buffet places in the area but suck it up and drive 15 minutes down Randall for better food, cleaner facility, better staff, and the Elgin general manager was very nice.

I’ve given this place more than one chance. Filthy and disgusting. Bad service and it’s obvious the employees don’t like working here, they look miserable. They had filled dirty food bins sitting out behind the registers. Everything was dirty and sticky. The salad bar looked like the aftermath of a food fight and no one was tending to it… there were chocolate fountains and such, but nothing sitting out to dip into them. Nothing refilled and dirty silverware. If i could give this place negative stars, I would have. There are too many nice restaurants in this area… skip this place unless you want to get sick!

Ok, this place has to be the WORST buffet I’ve ever been to! It’s one of those places I wanted to like. I gave it not one, not two, but FIVE trys! All different times and days. Every time food was tasteless and over cooked, it takes an extremely long time for them to refill empty trays busy day or not, it’s overpriced, and service is horrible! They have tacky signs all over saying«for better service tip your server». I will never go back. If I could give negative stars I would.

This place looks really impressive from the ads, but once I got in it seems to me like it was your typical American buffet. The ribs and pork are good here, so great news for the meat lovers. The quality of the meats are A-OK, good but nothing too amazing There are a salad bar, a mini Asian bar with egg rolls and some chop suey dishes for those that want a lighter menu. Probably more impressive to me is their desert bar with many kinds of cakes like carrot cake, chocolate and velvet, etc. They do have a variety of things as far as American food goes but I can’t honestly remember anything that was too distinctive. Price-wise, it is cheaper to go here than to go to some of the upper end Chinese buffet like Royal Buffet in Schaumburg which can run into the $ 20s/pp. This place I think will cost less but the menu is going to be more generic too. I haven’t been back in a while since I last checked in this place. I might visit again but it wouldn’t be any time soon since there are so many other restaurants to try out…

My last visit was on October 26, 2013. I enjoyed the food and the selection. The burger sliders were delicious n the appetizer chicken wings were really good too. They have a nice selection of different style wings; teriyaki, hot wings, and garlic spicy. All were good. Aside from the good food my complaints are these: serving trays were left empty too long; the dinner crowd acted like they were going to eat their last meal! I mean really, do you have to stand so close to me? You’ll get your turn and they won’t run out of food. I know this is a family restaurant but parents, keep your kids at the table!

We enjoy going here every so often because everyone is happy because the choices are so great. We went on Mother’s Day because we knew there’d be something for everyone(and the guys really wanted to try out the Wing Fest). Plus, the kids get a kick out of the chocolate fountain and the freshly spun cotton candy. Of course, you come into contact with ignorant guests — but that can happen anywhere. — Just a note: If you see a child patiently waiting his turn to grab a roll and you jump in front of him to grab the last FOUR(seriously, PIG!), you are a worthless human being. But, it all worked out because right after that, a FRESH tray came out. But — back on track — plenty of choices, and my favorite is the pot roast. It’s DELICIOUS. And the rolls with the honey butter spread is phenomenal. Yum! The only thing that kind of irks me is the drink situation and the demanding of tips(I think there are even signs posted on the walls about tipping — I’m sorry, I’m supposed to tip you 20% of my total bill for just bringing me drinks!!! I’d much rather get my own drink like other buffet restaurants allow you to do).

I’ve only had their breakfast ay this location, but I love not having to choose between bacon or sausage. I can come eat all the terrible heart-clogging meat I want plus so much more AND indulge in a chocolate fountain! What more could you want from a buffet?

This was my first time there and I was nervous based on some of the bad reviews. It was great! For $ 12 a person you can’t beat the price. The selection was amazing — salad bar, taco bar, potato bar, all kinds of meat(chicken, turkey, meatloaf, pork loin, steak) and seafood(shrimp, fish), Asian food and tons of sides. I was worried there would mostly be deep fried food but this was not the case. I’m more of a vegetable eater then meat so I was happy to find steamed broccoli, brussel sprouts, green beans, corn, cabbage, mashed potatoes, etc. The dessert section was just as exciting. I can’t pig out so I only had a ½ a brownie and some chocolate pie. This is how it works: You buy your drinks in front of the store(I got water) and the waitress will refill it for you at the table. The waitress was almost always in the area so I never had to wait for a refill.(Please TIP these people.) You get your own plate, there are plenty in the area, and you fill up on whatever you want. The quality of the food is excellent. I got such a great meal my husband and I decided to make this a Sunday dinner routine. I highly recommend.

The best thing about going to Golden Corral on a Sunday is usually the brunch, however, since we got there at 11:20 there wasn’t really any breakfast still out. Overall, I’m not really a big Golden Corral fan, however, this place isn’t disgusting or terrible at all I’ve just had better Golden Corral experiences before. Some areas for improvement: Keep brunch out unitl 1:00 pm on the weekends, serve rolls at the table(like they do in WI, don’t make us get them ourselves). Areas of excellence: the Pot Roast(this is delicous), the rolls, the new caribbean Shrimp(super yummy), banana pudding(best dessert). I will probably be back eventually. My husband likes golden corral and its located close to Woodman’s. We all know how bad it is to shop on an empty stomack so when I’m in the area and I need to grocery shop this isn’t a bad place to stop in.

This place is a zoo. I didn’t know that this was the place-to-be on a Saturday night… in Algonquin(sarcasm…). Long wait in line. But my group(of 40) had a reservation and we didn’t have to wait(cue: stink eye from patrons waiting in line). Anyway, there was lots of variety in terms of the food. I only picked at some of the seafood(calamari, clams and shrimp) and beef tip cubes, and some various veggies. What really turned me off though is the dessert table — having candy, sweets and chocolate fondue within arms reach of booger-infested children should not be allowed. Perhaps offer those items on a higher table, PLEASE. Needless to say, the only dessert I braved was the orange sherbet(from a machine). Our server(Crystal?) was SUPER nice though and she gets lots and lots of kudos for taking good care of an overwhelming group.
