I have had some recent issues with this store that are concerning. Last Tuesday I needed 3 bags of water softener salt and could not find one bag that didn’t have a hole in it and was leaking a lot of salt. I told the cashier and floor assistant that I would be back and if one of them could find me three whole bags, that would be great. When I came back 40 minutes later, nothing had changed, there was not a clean bag to be found. Similarly, I ordered two refrigerator filters and were told they would arrive In about a week on a Wednesday. I left my number if something changed. Since I live in Julian, it’s 45 minutes each way so it’s important to get things right. When I arrived on the Wednesday, I learned not only were they not on the shelf, but they never left the warehouse. I drove to to Home Depot and got them there. Sadly, I will not return to this store. While I believe in supporting local businesses, good service is important!

This is a very good small town hardware store. The employees are friendly and helpful. John(the owner) has selected quality people to work here. The selection of items is appropriate. This is not a Home Depot, and that is ok. The headaches of a big box store aren’t present The nationwide periodic sales on paint and other things are great. They carry Craftsman tools, which really is the only reason Sears is still in business. This store and it’s staff are a nice addition to Alpine. Kudos

Customer service is lacking in this store. I was talking with Tim the on duty manager and then all of a sudden I was put on hold for 5 mins. When someone came back on the line they said can you call back. I told them no one even told me I was going to be place do hold, surprise. I called because they charged me full price tax on a sale item. I told them I looked up on ca. Tax board and they can’t charge you full tax on an item that’s on sale. They should only charge tax on the priced item. Very disappointed with them.

*3.5 Quaint little store that stocks basic household items. It may not be the largest Ace store, but it saves me a trip to Home Depot and Lowes when I’m pressed for time. Had a key made and they did a good job. Employees seem happy and were friendly.

Ace is the place, the only place for hardware since True Value closed. The are very helpful. They don’t have the selection of the Depot, but try getting any help there. Ace is my first stop before heading down the hill.

Always friendly and never pushy. I have now visited there about twenty times, and am pleased. Several times they did not have ALL the things I wanted, and they told me so, without trying to substitue something inferior or incorrect for the task at hand. Their salespeople/floor help are fairly knowledgable and know where else to go for products they don’t carry and even for better pricing, should I elect to drive. That was a good measure, at least for me, of their integrity.

Though not quite the selection of hardware stores further down the hill, this Ace location is probably the best stocked hardware store from Alpine on east to the next big city.

I’ve gone into the store on about four occasions and each time I was greeted and offered assistance soon after entering the store. They have always had what I was looking for and seemed very knowledgeable. There is always lots of parking and wait time to be rung up is short. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with their customer service and would go back again.
