The My Handyman franchise originally opened in 2001 and quickly grew into Washtenaw County’s premier handyman service. The current ownership acquired the franchise in 2012 and continues to offer a high level of service throughout Washtenaw County. I definitely would not recommend this company. The contractor who was supposed to come to my house between 2pm and 5pm did not arrive until 6:30pm, so my half a day out of work wasn’t worth it. They charged a $ 50.00 fee just for the contractor to come out, which was fine, but he promised me that I would have a written estimate the next day via e-​mail. When it did not come and I called the next day before 5pm, they were unable to provide me with any information and wouldn’t give me the contact number of the person who had come out to our house so that I could receive the estimate. Since I paid the service fee, I expected a higher level of professionalization. I am very disappointed and frustrated by this experience. We have had a lot of different contractors could out to our house over the years and this is the first that charged for an estimate and then failed to deliver it! I definitely would not recommend this company. If you want your time honored, steer clear of My Handyman.

This company came out to provide a quote for some work, and didn’t tell us until AFTER, that they charge for all on-​site visits. It doesn’t matter how good they are or what their cost estimate was (but it was VERY high) — the fact that they charged us for this initial quote without telling us first, was enough for me to not want to do business with them.

I called today for assistance with a poorly installed ceiling fan in my home. They responded quickly and courteously. I had been told by previous company’s that the installation could not be repaired without some reconstruction of my ceiling. The serviceman (Doug) was prompt, courteous and did an excellent job with the repair with no ceiling damage. He was very honest and upfront about his capabilities and limitations and proceeded to follow through with no drama. I recommend their services and would use them again.

I hadn’t used My Handman since 2008 but I am so glad I got back in touch with them when I needed assistance at home. Steve M. made hanging a heavy mirror and another heavy object look so easy to hang. And no extra nail holes, etc. that would have happened if I tried to do it myself. Steve was kind, courteous and very knowledgeable and I will certainly ask for him next time I call My Handyman.

At the end of the day, was the issue (in this case reattaching siding that blew off in a storm) resolved? Yes. But I expect more from my customer service experience and I was really annoyed with the constant delays and then being billed an amount more than $ 100 more than the over-​the-​phone quote.
it started with the technician showing up late and then saying he couldn’t do the project that day. He agreed to do some pro bono work to repair a patch that wasn’t part of the original request, then ended up – FOUR weeks later — charging me for everything and ended up with an overall bill way above the quote. Unfortunately I didn’t have it in writing (though it’s the reason I went with them over two other companies) and the manager I spoke to on the phone wouldn’t even negotiate. It felt very much like ‘Tough luck dude.‘
Will never use them again.

I had My Handyman replace the screens of my three screen doors, the owner quoted me $ 250 verbally. But after the work was done, the invoice was above $ 500. After I spoke to the owner, we settled the bill for $ 400 plus. I was disappointed.
So be careful, always ask for a written quote. Do not be ripped off.

I wanted a service that handled both carpentry and electrical services and someone recommended My Handyman. I requested a chair rail added to a bedroom wall and install a ceiling fan. The technician arrived an hour late after sleeping in but did a good job on the chair rail. Initially he told me he could install the fan, but later told me he wasn’t a certified electrician and couldn’t complete the job. Prices were fairly high considering I bought all the materials (fan and moulding).
