At Something Extra Preschool & Childcare we believe that knowledge is gained by active exploration — active play in areas that interest children. We believe that children are wise, thoughtful, and reflective. They are astutely observant and sensitively aware. They are highly intuitive, resourceful and able to make cognitive leaps of insight.

Working with the Sacramento County Department of Education and local schools, we work hard to make sure we have the latest tools and training to help your child succeed.

History

Established in 1992.

Jamie & John Throckmorton bought Something Extra Preschool in North Highlands in September 1992 and began their journey to transform the preschool into the the place it is today providing quality care for infants through pre-​kindergarten children.

Our current facility was opened in May 2003 providing a better environment for the children, their parents, and our staff. The extra space helps with our some of our favorite family functions such as Mother’s Day Tea, Father’s Days Ice Cream Social, Thanksgiving Feast,

Recent years and developments have provided us with the opportunity to develop a close relationship with the Sacramento Department of Education to bring the quality to the highest levels.

Having had Something Extra Preschool all these years has given us some real blessings seeing the children that have been with us to grow ups and become adults. We have had the privilege of attending weddings for some of our former students and even now care for some of their children.

Jamie & John Throckmorton — Owners

We purchased Something Extra Preschool in 1992 in its original location on Elkhorn Blvd. Jamie worked for many years in the preschool industry as a teacher’s aide, teacher, and administrator and obtained a degree in Early Childhood Development from California State University, Sacramento. As the Owner/​Director Jamie has had the opportunity to build a great staff and seen many children grow up to be great young adults, some who to this day stay in contact with her. John works in the computer industry and assists behind the scenes in the operation of the preschool. In our free time we enjoy spending time with our three children.
