Env Salon Color Bar

I don’t really see why this salon has such a high rating. I wish my friend didn’t convince me to come, because it was a complete disappointment and waste of time. I’ve been to several salons both here and NYC, and honestly I don’t think the quality of service merits the high price tag. And trust me, I’m willing to drop hundreds of dollars on my hair is the service is worth it.
First of all, I am a mid 20s young woman with a job in the media and my job is to cover beauty so I know many professionals in the beauty industry. On top of that, I also have a background in makeup artistry so I’m very familiar with the way professionals should treat their clients.
My hair wasn’t in the best condition when I came here because I had let a friend in cosmetology school dye it and she ended up damaging my hair from the bleach (she dyed and bleached it almost 6 times trying to fix it until I just dyed it black)… I was well aware that my hair wasn’t in its best, natural and healthy state, but I had high hopes when I came here thinking I could at least get highlights that were just one shade lighter for some dimension. I really thought my hair could handle it, because even at its worst, it’s still pretty strong.
My stylist, who I won’t mention her name, was very rude in her assessment of my hair. I understand she was cautious of my hair’s state and didn’t want to put bleach on my hair, but there is a certain verbiage and a way to DELIVER your message to a client. I don’t think she genuinely meant to be malicious, but honestly it came off quite rude and unprofessional. For instance, when I work with a client for makeup, I would never say «your skin is very old and wrinkly.» It can be offensive to a client. I would use the term «mature» to describe her skin. This particular stylist said my hair was «horrible» because of the damage and was laughing because she thought it was a lost cause as far as trying to dye it now and she tried to convince me to get it cut. I asked her if I should get a keratin treatment, which she recommended against… Which seemed odd to me because at least 5 stylists (friends and acquaintances) had all instructed me to. Maybe she felt okay about being rude because I was younger than her — I don’t know… All I know is I felt the way she spoke to me was very unprofessional and so unacceptable.
I try not to let things bother me so, I just kept calm. I was with my friend who was also getting her hair done. I felt like coming there was a waste of my day if I didn’t get anything done, so I decided on a hair treatment, a black glaze for my hair and a trim for my hair.
The treatment was not what I expected. I have no idea how much it cost individually but if I could go back in time I would not have done it because it was a TOTAL waste. All she did was spray something in my hair and went on to say «oh, I can already tell a difference.» Trust me there was no difference…
Black glaze was fine. It just deepened the color. Nothing extraordinary here.
Lastly, the cut. I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted. A blunt lob with a few layers in the front of the face. She even told me she wanted to give me layers, so I assumed she would in the front. She evened out the ends which were very uneven, which is good… But when I got home I noticed that it actually wasn’t as even as I thought. But… No layers in the front. And… No blowout. Whenever I get my hair done, the stylist blows my hair out with natural waves and tons of volume. Even in the state my hair was in, I could still style my hair at home and it would look a thousand times better. Honestly, I was so annoyed at the experience that I just wanted to get out as quickly as possible.
I spent $ 150 here, and I gave a good tip (I believe it was 20 or 30 dollars) because I feel like people should be tipped for their services regardless. I’m not a mean person. BUT, the prices of this salon do NOT justify the quality of service I had with this stylist. I could get my hair done in a top quality salon for near this price and it would be worth it, but not here. Maybe other stylists are better and more professional here, but my experience was more than enough for me to never want to set foot in here again. And I have warned MANY others not to go. Really a disappointment because I had high hopes for a more high end salon in the town of Apex… And by the way, two weeks later I did an at home treatment to my hair and got highlights and my hair took to them just fine… I think my stylist underestimated how strong my hair really is.

I have been going to Env Salon for the last 5 years and can’t imagine going anywhere else. Despite moving several times around the Triangle the last few years, I haven’t changed salons. Erica is absolutely amazing. If I come in with an exact idea of how I want my color/​cut to look, she follows my request completely and yet, it always turns out even better than I imagined. If I know I want a change but I’m not sure what to do, Erica always takes the time to walk through options with me and provide me with her professional recommendation on what cut/​color would look best on me for each season (this is coming from a girl who didn’t know you could change your hair every season, and now I’m open to changes left & right!!). Erica is so well-​experienced with color that I have complete confidence every time I walk in the door that I will leave loving my hair even more than I did at my last appointment!
I have the utmost respect and confidence for Erica as a stylist and have recommended her to several friends throughout the years, all of whom have equally positive things to say about her. The Env atmosphere is relaxed with stylists who really know — and care about — what they’re doing. If you’re looking for a stylist who is going to invest her time into giving you your best look, I strongly encourage you to book with Erica! She has come in early for me and stayed late to accommodate my schedule. I couldn’t ask for more from a salon!

Tristian did a great job! I have never died my hair and I decided to do ombré. She talked me through different options and explained a style that would look best. She listens to what you want, but also offers educated suggestions. She was confident throughout the whole process, and she was very friendly! It was a great experience and beautiful salon!

This is a fabulous place — I’ve been coming here for awhile and continue to be impressed with how well run it is. Friendly staff and scheduling (or rescheduling) has always been a breeze. Justine is a gem and always takes her time cutting and styling my hair. The building itself (brick with old wooden plank floors and large skylights) is also very cool and contributes to the experience. Prices are very reasonable for the service you get.

I can’t recommend this place enough. Erica always gives me her opinion and recommendation with what would compliment my features. She’s right on the money every time. Very chill atmosphere and the staff are awesome. It’s a little pricey but honestly, you get what you pay for. When it comes to cut and color, it’s important to invest in a little extra to feel your best.

I recently moved to RTP area from WA State and needed to find a Goldwell Color Salon and stylist. I googled near by Salons and Env Salon Color Bar seemed like a good choice. I read the Bios of the stylist and was really impressed by Erica’s credentials as well as experience overall. I arrived to my appt. on time (had trouble finding the sign tho) and was pleasantly impressed by the layout of the Salon as well as the cute boutique feel of the shops surrounding it! After my quick consult and my input to what I would like and what I had been doing (I brought my formulas for Goldwell color) Erica, added her insight and suggestions. I was completely open to her suggestions and expertise as well. I felt comfortable that she understood and was capable of giving me the highlights I wanted. Erica was quick and confident and gave me a great shampoo!
When the towel was removed I was in love with the tone and placement of the highlights and low lights… even while it was still wet! She nailed it! I’m super picky about my highlights in the front/​sides of my face as they frame everything… she did it perfect! I had not had my hair done for almost 4 months since my move and I was bleached out from the summer sun and had 2 inches of roots. She gave me a warm tone and still gave me the pieces of highlights to showcase the blonde I love so much. I’m very happy I found this lil gem in Apex!
I set up my next appt. before I left the salon. Erica is a talented color stylist!

I decided I would check this place out since I am new to the area and didn’t have a regular stylist. I had seen some pretty great reviews on most of the stylists and the salon itself so I thought, «I would definitely pay more just to have my hair done like I want and great products on my hair as well.» I haven’t had a haircut make me cry in such a long time, and not happy tears. I’m talking hysterical tears. Brittany did a great job on my color, but she knows nothing about cutting and styling hair. I tried to explain that I wanted my top and my sides blended so they would lay right and have wispy layers throughout. She kept cutting the length of the hair on the sides and back, but wasn’t doing much to the top. Again, I explained how the top is heavier and looks longer than the sides and back. She said she didn’t understand and thought I wanted to go shorter, so she kept cutting me shorter around the sides and back. After this, I said, «Can we get some assistance?» She wasn’t happy about it, but I needed someone that could help me explain. I also pulled out a picture of Jane Fonds’s short hairstyle to give her an idea about layers. The other stylist advised her to wet my hair, don’t cut any more off the back and sides cause it’s already short enough and then she told her to texturize the top and thin it out. Did she follow her instructions? Nope. I walked out of there looking like a Q-​Tip with eyes. I almost broke down inside the place. I kept trying to smash my hair down on top of my head, but it was just too much hair. The cashier just told me to come back and ask for Renee’ or another lady. She said that all it needs is thinning. I agree, but most of my length is gone and I am so short around the sides and back. That will take months to grow back so I can do this all over again! Maybe one of the other stylists would do better. I just thought I needed to share my experience to show the disconnect between a stylist and customer. Brittany had also stated that she gets quiet when she cuts hair. She is almost timid as she approaches it. I thought maybe she was just focused, but I truly think she just needs more practice when it comes to cuts. She was a very sweet girl, but before I would try a second time and my customer is still not happy, I would have gone to get someone to assist me and not the customer. Obviously, there is a disconnect. The only thing I can be thankful for is that hair grows back.

I have been getting highlights for longer than I’d like to admit. I won’t say how many years, but since high school. I have seen my fair share of stylists over the years, in different geographic areas, and I can honestly say that Erica is a master colorist! She knows exactly where to place the foils to best suit my face, and my hair is always shiny and bright when I leave. Tough to do for a blonde! The products that they use at the salon are top-​notch! I also have to give Erica an extra shout-​out, because I foolishly strayed and saw another stylist, and the other woman really messed up my hair. I never thought twice about calling her to help fix me up, and she did so without making me feel bad about seeing someone else. I literally had hair coming out in clumps, and had brassy, spotty highlights. Erica got me in quickly, and now I look and feel great again! I have definitely learned my lesson. A great stylist is worth her weight in gold!

Erika is fantastic! I’ve been going to her for almost a year now and she always does a fantastic job on my cut and color. The whole staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful!

So here’s the deal. The stylists and staff are top notch. It is the owner that needs a complete makeover. I have gone there for two years and every time that woman manages to put her foot in her mouth.
She questions her stylists in front of the customers. It makes her appear unprofessional, and undermines their image and their work. I could go into detail on three separate visits, but let’s sum it up to say that she really needs to learn how to treat her staff, and she needs to improve her communication skills. The only reason I return is because everyone else is great. If I had to deal with her I would never return.
Lady — take a note. It doesn’t matter if you own the place. Treat your most valuable asset with dignity and respect. In the end you are the one that comes across as unprofessional and inept.

I have gone to see Tracy twice now, and I will be scheduling my third appointment very soon! I think it can be hard to find a stylist who completely understands how you want your hair cut and colored on the very first appointment, but Tracy did!
On both of my visits, Tracy seemed to understand exactly what I was looking for and executed it flawlessly. She helped me correct a very bad color job to one that exactly matched what I had been looking for all along. I was also very impressed to find that from the first appointment to the second one (about 7 weeks apart), that she remembered EXACTLY what she had done to my hair the first time around. Definitely will be sticking with Tracy at enV for a long time!
As for prices, I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying enV is pricey, but I would say it’s not outrageous and you get what you pay for.

Yesterday I visited EnV for the first time. I had been letting my hair grow out for a while and was visiting chain salons to get it trimmed. I decided I wanted to get a cut for better shape, and looked online for local salons. I was impressed with EnV, especially with the strong reviews. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and acted like they were honored to have me as a customer. My stylist listened to my thoughts and concerns about my hair, gave me her suggestions, and discussed with me each product she put in my hair as she styled it. I was able to keep most of my hair’s length, while giving it a better shape. My hair looks much better than when I walked in to the salon! It does cost more than a chain salon, but it is very much worth it!

Wedding services review:
Zach, Tristan, and Justine worked with my wedding party to help turn us all into stunning ladies! They were easy to work with, professional, and great with hair. They really listened to what each person wanted and then did their magic. Zach and Tristan were great with makeup. They even used air brush foundation! Zach is a pro at highlighting and contouring, which I personally don’t see many make up artists do… ever! They set us all up in the back room which was light and airy. We basically had our own private room. I think in total there were about 16 of us that showed up throughout the day. They let us bring snacks and champagne. We even broke a bottle trying to open the champagne and they were totally cool about it. Also, a big thing… they were on time! I would still recommend giving yourself an extra hour just in case, but that wasn’t something I ever really had to worry about with Zach. He was very professional, met with me several times, and did wonders on my hair and makeup. Everyone who left the salon was thrilled with the way that they looked. Thanks Env!

Wow! I am so glad I found this place. They fixed what I thought was un fixable. Make sure to check out my before and after photos. My hair hasn’t look or felt so good in years!
I decided to give this salon a try after reading good reviews here on Unilocal.I went on there website and made appointment for the next day. I got Erica as my stylist. I was very nervous about getting my hair cut and colored. I use to have beautiful long thick brown hair. But I went to a salon over a year ago and started having them dye it platinum blonde on top and dark brown on the bottom. One day all my blonde hair started to fall out about 2 – 3 inches from the root. I was to embarrassed to ever go back to the previous salon. So I just let it grow and kept the odd color for almost a year.
Well today I went into the salon and they got me right in the chair. I explained everything to Erica and she said not to worry that she could fix it. Some of my hair was very long, other parts very short. It was blonde in some parts, brown, and black. A mess and it looked horrible. I would only wear it up. Erica cut some off and colored my hair. She even dyed my eyebrows which look absolutely fabulous! They are normally very light and I have dark hair. What a difference. Than she cut my hair and blended the different lengths. Than she styled it exactly like I would. She was a pleasure to talk to and there was another woman with short blonde hair who washed my hair who was very sweet! My hair looks absolutely fabulous! It’s a bit shorter than I wanted but my hair was dead and she did what she had to make it look great.
I didn’t stop there! I got my eyebrows done by Cary and they look great! I am extremely happy with everything and will be back in a few weeks.

I recently moved from another state and was looking for a food hairdresser for my color and cut. Justine did a great job on matching my color but a horrible job on my cut. I told her I never blow dry my hair and have a low maintenance style but she went ahead and changed my cut which now needs to be blow dried to look any good. She also layered my hair which I specifically told her not to do but she said «was better». Better for her but not for me and not what I wanted. All in all way too expensive for a style I didn’t want, don’t like and need to wit to grow it out.

I went to EnV to have a bad haircut from another salon corrected and was set up for an appointment with Jennifer. I could not be happier with the experience or haircut. After a consultation about what went wrong and what I really wanted, Jennifer gave me a cut that was stylish and flattering. It sounds ridiculous, but I cried a little when I saw myself because I actually felt pretty after the terrible previous cut. Even better is that I was able to style it myself the next day and it still looked great! For me, that is definitely a sign of a good cut. will absolutely be back. I should have gone to Env the first time!

My sister and I really wanted to get a last minute haircut so we called enV salon with our fingers crossed, hoping that they could take us last minute.
We were pretty lucky and they scheduled us immediately for both of us with Justine!
As soon as we came in, we got checked in and were asked if we wanted anything to drink. I sat in the chair first and showed Justine pictures of the haircut that I wanted.
Unlike other hairdressers, she asked me a million questions (which is a good thing!) before she got started. One thing that I really appreciated was that she showed me how much she was going to cut off and if that was okay… something that most other hairdressers don’t do! Once she cut off the amount of length she had mentioned, she took off my cape and asked me if I liked it or need it shorter.
After that she finished up my haircut and gave me a great blowout.
My sister had the exact same experience as I did so neither of us had any complaints.
Will definitely be back to see her!

A friend and I followed Alan when he moved from another Salon to EnV. Wonderful building, easy parking out back, great historic downtown area.
Better yet, the salon is staffed by very friendly, efficient, and talented people.
I love seeing what Alan has done with the person before me every time I come in — it always looks good. I have very thick, very straight, greying hair and he manages to cut and style it in a way that makes me look good. Yes, even with keeping the grey. I should keep his cards with me because I get compliments all the time.
He also cuts it in such a way that I can go a much longer time between cuts without it looking like a bush. That’s nice on my budget. This place is the one splurge I allow myself because an excellent haircut/​style is worth the cost!

I went to this salon after getting desperate for a local hairdresser that wasn’t going to turn me into a little boy, a librarian, or Mary Tyler Moore.
Well, Hayley (I hope I spelled that right), my hairdresser, did none of those things. I can finally say that I have a hairstylist whose work doesn’t make small children question my gender, my occupation, or my taste in haircuts. She made my concept happen, while gently correcting the delusions I had about what my hair would do.
I didn’t feel belittled or put down, by the way; I was enlightened. The proverbial lightbulb clicked on. And then I got very annoyed that none of the other hairdressers that have worked on my hair had ever said anything specific about *why* they couldn’t make the cut I wanted work. (One of them was a family friend, so perhaps she thought I’d be hurt by it, but the rest don’t have an excuse.)
As for the cut itself, it’s a major departure from the ‘do I’ve sported for the last… uh, for a long time, and it turned out brilliantly. Hayley told me how to recreate it at home, and what tools I’d need (if you don’t count the blowdryer, a round brush is all I need — she didn’t try to sell me anything). She also broke out a bottle of SLS-​free shampoo to use on me, and didn’t try to push any products, either.
My first day at work after the haircut saw me getting showered with compliments to the point where I was getting a little nervous.
Great job. Will definitely return.
