Must say, I’ve been a customer of the far east for a long long time and last night was the first time I ever left without getting my food. It took over an hour and we still didn’t get our two maki rolls and tuna tartar. Meanwhile the couple next to us had eaten their appetizer, order their meal, received their meal, eaten it and we still hasn’t received our food. Then I asked them to just give me the bill for the drinks and we’d take the food to go – STILLNOFOOD. we simply left our money on the bar for our drinks(and yes, we still left a tip). Not sure what’s going on here but last night was very disappointing.

Wasn’t very impressed. One of our plates of sushi was falling apart. It was really a mess. My salad was just regular iceberg lettuce with a little dressing. Very disappointing for what we paid.

Best Seafood Udon Soup I ever had. Cannot wait to try all their other varieties. The sushi rolls were really big and great flavors. It is all at the right price. Don’t judge the place for the outside, when you pull in, looks like an old tavern. They have done a good job on the inside though. The scorpion sushi roll was the best, followed by the red dragon.

My girlfriend and I are sushi noobs. Far East is perfect for us. Not intimidating, prices are less than downtown and the sushi is great. Service and martinis are always excellent. A great cozy place!

Absolutely the best sushi ever! One of the signs of quality sushi is consistent prep. You can dine at Far East every day and the food will look, feel and taste exactly as before! Always fresh and always awesome! Tell Ted I sent you!

We have lived in Appleton for 10 years and even though I drove past this restaurant nearly every day I never ate there. It doesn’t look very inviting from the outside. Very few of my neighbors had ever been there, but the people that had gone have had good things to say. Today I went there with my daughter. We had some sushi, nothing fancy — just cucumber roll and and California roll. It was really good by my admittedly sushi novice standards. My daughter had the Bul-Go-Gi(marinated) tenderloin bento box. It was amazing. The steak was tender and very flavorful. I had the shrimp tempura bento box. That too was excellent. The bento box has a lot of side dishes. There was barely enough room at our table for two for all of the food. Service was friendly and attentive. The décor is a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. Oddly, the windows are covered. I think this is a mistake. It adds to the oddness of the outside view and makes the inside a little dark. My advice to the owner is to let the light in. Being an early dinner time there were 2 other tables with kids of various ages, they were very accommodating for the kids. Go to Far East, it is a really delicious and a great experience.

I thought Far East was quite good. Met up with some friends to try something new and it didn’t disappoint. First impression was that the place was a little run down(appearance –wise). We were greeted by the bartender and promptly seated. We had a few drinks which were mixed decently and ordered some sushi as appetizers and some Bul-Go-Gi for entrees. I found the sushi to be very decently priced and prepared wonderfully.(Probably the best I’ve had in Appleton). The Bul-Go-Gi was a bit different than what I’ve had in the past(I prefer Koreana) but it was still good. The staff was very polite and also very friendly. I will be going back for a second try and diving into the menu a bit more as well.

Went here for sushi, and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was lovely, and the waiter was super polite. Sushi was great, and not too expensive. The menu had an excellent selection as well. I would recommend it.

I’m from the bay area where we have sushi joints up the wazoo. I didn’t have any expectations coming here. I was more than impressed with the menu AND sushi selection at Far East. Spicy tuna tartar was delicious as well as my sake which was super fresh. I think I’m coming back to try the Korean selections because I am having Asian food withdrawal and I think I found my fix!

I work in a sushi restaurant. I love sushi. Looove it! Far East is my second choice for sushi. They have great Japanese and Korean appetizers too. The tuna sashimi is wonderful. Not a sushi fan? Try their bento box dinners. The owners here are wonderful and freindly. The décor is homey and intimate. Cool old wood bar.
