Good food but not consistent, tastes a little different each time. Service also not consistent, was ok

Went for lunch at 1pm. Only two other tables of people. I was of course sat right away at a nice table near the sushi bar. My waitress was very nice! It wasn’t too long after I put in my orders that my sushi appetizer came out. Great flavor and very fresh! Then as I was about halfway the my appetizer that I received my chicken pad thai– so yummy. The waitress was very attentive asking if I needed anything else and how my meal was, as well as refilling my water glass as needed. Will return!

This is a great place for the whole family. They are very accommodating with allergies. We have kids and adults with various allergies and the staff was amazing with keeping everything separated. The chef was funny and skilled, he did all the usual hibachi tricks. The meat and vegetables were all fresh and good. We will definitely return in the future. I’d love to see an expanded beer menu to really put this place over the top.

Everything was delicious! We had a party of 15 and sat at the teppan table. We were a handful and the dinner was delicious! We’d be back again for sure. We’re from California and have tons of these places there and they’re just as good if not better!

Very solid 4. We were greeted right away by the hostess and seated. It took a bit for our waitress to stop by for drinks, but she made it eventually. We had naruto roll, TJ Sampler, and Mexican roll. All of them were excellent. The only complaint my wife had is there was no crunch in any of the rolls. Flavor was great though. Then we have the Ichiban roll. Holy crap is it hot. I am a huge spice fan and loved this roll. But it is not for the faint of heart. Overall, very good meal.

This place has grown on me, but not a fan of everything on the menu. They should probably narrow their menu and focus on what they do well, like their hibachi

This place is nice but the waitress seem inexperience and forgetful. We had a 2 year old with us and ask for a soppy cup ten time. Then plates but we had to get up n get the plates ourselves. Felt like the couple next to us got what they needed right away compare to us have to keep asking her. Would not go back here.

Too bad people experienced bad service here in the past and may not give them another chance. Maybe they read the reviews and have made some fixes because we had wonderful service! Let me start with the food… truly amazing! I had shrimp Hybachi and the shrimp was plump and asian sweet. So much great flavor and way better than I anticipated. Reason I didn’t expect much was because of the other Hybachi restaurant in town. As in another one of my reviews, I’m not a fan of Nakashima’s and think they are grossly overrated. Their food tastes the exact same every time, lacking flavor and pizazz… including their sushi. I did not try the sushi at TJ’s(this time) but from what I saw the sushi chefs making… it is most definitely a must in the future for me! The atmosphere is nice and comfortable. The Hybachi chef was a lot more fun than the ones I’ve seen before. Finally… the price was reasonable! I spent the same amount for 5 people at TJ’s than I did for 2 people at ‘the other place’. I hope they stay afloat and stick around because the alternative Hybachi isn’t worth wasting my money at and it’s finally a nice change to have another one with wonderful food!

6th time here and the service gets worse and worse. We waited 3 minutes for a host(ess) to greet and seat us. We only had about 45 minutes to eat and had our orders in mind. We were given water and then she walked away without saying a word. 10 minutes into the experience passed and as I looked around I could tell others were frustrated. The couple next to us looked like they had been there a while(empty beer bottles). The waitress went to them and took their order at this time. We got up and left after about 15 minutes of no staff interaction, seriously. 2nd time I’ve ever walked out of a restaurant.

Man is the food and atmosphere great here… but the service is atrocious! Every time I come back(because I can’t get enough of the Amazing Curry) and it’s new waitstaff that is worse than the last. Don’t expect to be in and out in less than an hour and a half. But seriously… the Amazing Curry is out of this world.

The place is beautiful. However, the people working there are very inexperienced and need some lessons in customer care. The food was ok, not worth the price for the unseasoned meat and veggies(we had hibachi and sushi) Sushi was lackluster and old tasting. The production of the hibachi meal was in the most random order I’ve ever seen and done very poorly. Dipping sauces were pretty old congealed spicy mayo and some kind of gelatinous blob they called ginger sauce. Gross. Apps didn’t arrive until halfway through the meal and the ones that were supposed to be hot were ice cold. Again, no flavor. This is a cheap knockoff of Nakashima and Katsuya. and they are awful at it. I looked around the room and all of the service looked like ours, so it was not a case of simply getting a new waiter and cook. None of them had smiles on their faces and all seemed like confused toddlers with the cooking tools. We were there on a Saturday and the place was dead in the dining room. We waited half an hour to be seated. Figured out the wait with nobody in there, most of the tables were still dirty from the last service. Most of them stayed that way the whole time we were there. That’s just plain laziness. No wonder this place is seeing less and less business. I will not be returning. It was a complete waste of money.

Just visited again last night and of course had the seaweed salad! Amazing as always! A must try! This time I tried the pineapple fried rice, awesome! Carved out pineapple with a delicious combination fried rice replacing the pineapple. Opted for the Luxury Night option and requested $ 70 of the Chef’s own choosing. It was out of this world! It actually gave my favorite Sushi restaurants in San Diego and Denver a run for their money! Actually, I would have paid at least $ 30 more at my other places.

Terrible service. Was waiting to be seated for about 5 min before the hostess showed up… on his cell phone, then instead of assisting me he said«excuse me» so I would get out of his way, disregarding me altogether. I just left after that. I took a look at their menu during the wait and it didn’t look too appetizing at all. No wonder it was so empty in there. Food and service sucks.

While the food is good, the service is TERRIBLE! Tables go unbussed and dirty for 15+ minutes while they quote wait times of an hour. Clients are crowded into a tiny bar with super under qualified bartendera. Then, the owner not only neglects service, but is heard boasting about«business is so great» while hugging her friends. I can guarantee that they would be SUBSTANTIALLY richer(since that is clearly what they care about) if they wouldn’t force guests to be there an hour before their table is ready and would simply be efficient in their service and bussing. This is clearly a restaurant that does not care about guest experience. I guess we will be checking out«Taste of Thai» from here forward.

Go somewhere else, we have an egg allergy, other places just make the fried rice in back and bring out if someone orders, we had one person at the table order fried rice and they refused to make it in back, instead they made us sit in the dining room and miss the whole event and made all our food in the back. would have been better to go to Panda express. we had tried this place for sushi a year ago and ordered a sweat potato avocado roll, it came with tempura sweet potato and no avocado, asked the waiter about it he went to sushi chef and came back and said this roll, even though it says avocado this roll doesn’t come with avocado, then asked about the tempura where menu lists when rolls are tempura this one wasn’t, he snapped back just eat it I’m not charging you for it. We left and should have never gone back to try again. Hope they close soon so a good place can open.

Great food amazing sushi for this part of Wisconsin. The bar is not the best because of the small size. The atmosphere is great as well. This place has hibachi as well I don’t really enjoy that but its the same thing as all the other places. Service could be better and the owners kids shouldn’t be running around. Defiantly need to try it if you haven’t yet.

Since my original review in summer 2011, we’ve been coming to TJ’s several times a month. The sushi continues to be super fresh and beautifully presented! I learned the owner gets the fish fresh from Hawaii… no wonder it is so good! The rolls tend to be a little smaller in diameter than other places, mainly because the rice isn’t globbed on a ½″ thick. There is a very thin layer of rice on the sushi so I advise to order an extra roll. The quality is amazing! You won’t be disappointed. We brought my in-laws for a hibachi dinner on NY eve(last night). The food was excellent! My husband and I had the chicken and filet mignon(we split it) and we shared several sushi rolls at the hibachi table. My in-laws had lobster & shrimp and the other had shrimp and steak. We all were very pleased with the dinner, service and hibachi chef(always a fun time to watch the food being prepared. The interior of TJs is beautiful– the tile, lighting and colors. It’s very nice! This is still one of our top 3 fav restaurants in the Fox River valley area.

My friend and I met up at TJ Thai after work and were treated very well! The hibachi chef was a delight! We shared our table with a family celebrating their 10 year old daughter’s birthday and that was so much fun! The food was delicious and we each had more than enough to take half home for leftovers. After dinner we had drinks in the bar. Nate the bartender is very responsive and has great drink recommendations. Our glasses were never left just sitting empty and when we weren’t sure what to try, he had just the right suggestion for each of our different tastes. It isn’t easy to be so attentive to each of the customers in a full bar, but he was! I have celebrated my birthday and one of my anniversaries by having dinner at TJ Thai… but I like how it feels like a special event, even when it’s just two friends hanging out.

Arrived during a wait, which is fine so we went to the bar. It’s a good thing my friend and I had a lot to talk about because an hour went by and we started wondering when we’d be seated… We were forgotten(apologies). We were seated and no one came after 10 min… There wasn’t a wait anymore and there were empty tables all around us. We were forgot again(more apologies + free appetizer). So we ordered spring rolls without shrimp since my friend is allergic to shell fish. The server didn’t know what spring rolls were, even though it was on the menu. I explained what they were to her and she was like ‘ooooohhh that’s what they’re called!!’ With our luck, all our spring rolls had shrimp(even more apologies + free dessert). We didn’t want dessert though. Sushi was okay. They were loosely rolled and broke apart. Another table loudly was arguing with the manager about their bad service. We had the same server as that other table and the manager just argued back that the server is new and is still learning… Ugh. We left a small tip and ran out of there!

I agree with the last reviewer. A much needed change from the mediocre, at best, fish in the valley. This restaurant is in place of the old Grazie’s. The inside was well decorated, trendy/contemporary. Good first date spot. I ordered chirashi and Ikura which were prepared nicely. The cuts were fresh tasting and generously sized. We received a sample for two of their seaweed salad while waiting for our order. I don’t usually like the stuff because i’m not terribly fond of the sesame oil but this was really good. They also had some weekend specials, one being the Pringle special… your choice of fish atop a pringle(x5), yes, the crunchy chip. I had the spicy white tuna, it had a fun texture and taste. I’d order it again.
Most places in the Appleton area only have a few types of fish in their case… but this place had a variety, and it all looked appetizing, not like it had been sitting there for days.
