The food is your usual Chevys food which isn’t bad for chain Tex-mex. I had the beef taco with beef enchiladas and rice and refried beans as sides and would get this again. As always the chips and salsa here are addictive and they keep bringing you baskets until you finally leave. The raspberry strawberry margarita is excellent and not overly sweet. They have great HH specials 7 days a week but only at the bar area. The service wasn’t overly impressive, it was very slow and we didn’t even receive water for at least 20 mins. Even though service was slow check this place out if you’re in the area and if you want a drink sit in the bar area to take advantage of the specials.

I have been here for three dollar margaritas during happy hour way too many times. Their margaritas are great for the cheap price. I’ve tried other drinks as well but they’re kind of inconsistent with the alcohol&other content ratio. So I usually steer away from them. They have great salsa and chips that are free before you’re served your food. Unfortunately I feel that’s probably the best part of the meal. Everything else is alright, can’t say much but it’ll fill you up. Reason I’m giving it 2stars is because of the sub par food, it is a restaurant after all.

I have hesitated to review this restaurant since I feel it’s not worth mentioning, but after having lunch with my best-friend yesterday I decided I should warn folks. My BF likes the tortilla chips and salsa — this is why we went. I tried to talk her out of it since my last 4 times dining at this place has left a bland taste and disappointing feeling. She was optimistic and asked that I give it another try. Our waitress was new so she wasn’t familiar with the menu and did not know what a chimichanga was. My BF was a little irritated that the«young» waitress was unable to assist with the menu options. I gave her slack since she was new and very young(high school). Moving on… I ordered the $ 11.99 three course option. I chose the tortilla soup, chicken tacos with Mexican rice and the corn sweet rice and a side of re fried beans and the watermelon lemonade along with the Flan for dessert. I should have known by the taste of the tortilla soup that the meal would be down hill. It was extremely bland with huge chunks of avocado. i added salt and pepper in hopes it would improve the taste –it didn’t. I received my entrée and was praying it was good… NOPE! It was bland and dry. How can you go wrong with chicken tacos? The rice lacked seasoning. The only two things that had taste was the Watermelon lemonade and the sweet corn rice, I never received my dessert but it really didn’t matter after such a disappointing lunch. I do not like this place because there’s no reason in the world a Mexican restaurant’s food lacks flavor. Unbelievable — I will NEVER go back. The only positive is the customer service and location.

Mango margaritas and memories remind me of Chevys. My first job that i accepted was made over a dinner meeting at Chevy’s in california several years back. great tex mex and addictive chips and Salsa. I generally don’t like chains but Chevy’s is one of my favorite places. Their platter sizes are huge so expect to put on a few pounds after you leave.

Chili Mango Margaritas!!! Need I say more??? Also, 1800 Watermelon Margaritas!!! Oh tequila… my love affair with you shall continue forever more :) Seriously, the chili mango margarita is FABULOUS. I can’t even begin to describe the fantasticness that is chili pepper and mango together with tequila. Mmmm mmmm mmmm good. I am moving to DC in three weeks and am so looking forward to coming here for happy hours. Boston isn’t allowed to have happy hours. I know… ridiculous. Hopefully I can contain myself once I am back in a city that knows what’s up when it comes to cheap drinks!

Average bland Corporatized Tex-Mex food. Nothing tastes special, though some of it doesn’t taste too bad. The fajitas tonight were average, the chile relleno pretty good, but my wife’s meal, the fish taco, was made with what smelled and tasted(yes, I’m an idiot, I smelled rotten fish and then tasted it to confirm) like spoiled fish. I’d like to give it only one star based on Management’s reaction, which was just like the food — professional, bland, and very Corporate. I feel certain the manager didn’t give a flying backflip whether we were happy with our experience or not, and that came across pretty clearly, He wasn’t hostile, he wasn’t confrontational, and he did take it off the bill — it just felt like he was doing it cuz the book says he’s supposed to. That said, the chips and salsa get ‘em that second star. They’re delicious and plentiful, and since I’ve heard such good things about the margaritas, maybe you could go and get chips, salsa, and a marg, and have dinner somewhere else afterwards.

The wait staff is very nice here, and for that reason they escape single stardom. I haven’t been to any other locations of Chevy’s, but can say that this one at the Ballston Mall is to be avoided. Shared the ½ pound of garlic shrimp which came with cornbread, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, tortillas, and grilled veggies. The shrimp on their own were acceptable. They were however served on what looked like a spread out corn husk which had been slightly charred. Not the best flavor to be transferring to shrimp… or anything, but whatever, it’s what we got. The cornbread was very gooey and quite tastey, but only came in a small scoop and sadly wasn’t a big enough showing to save this sad meal overall. The grilled mixed veggies were dry and burnt. It was like they had freezer burn to start, and were then thrown onto a frying pan for a little too long. Very bad indeed. They guac, and salsa were served in such minute servings like the cornbread that I can only assume that their presence is for show and not to actually create fajitas with the plentiful tortillas. We had a mojito and the raspberry rum kiss. Neither was bad, but we probably should not have been drinking after seeing the food because I don’t think it is advisable to drink when you’re depressed.

Hmm. this is my least favorite restaurant in the Ballston Mall, just because it is a little blah. It looks fun on the outside with all the tacky decorations, but every time I’ve been there its been empty. Even during a Mexico world cup game! I expected people to want to go to a restaurant serving(tex/)Mexican food while watching the game or for the restaurant to have some kind of festive atmosphere. Not at all. The food is fine –standard tex/mex fare, though this is another place where I was somewhat disappointed with the portions. This is the only tex/mex place I’ve been to where I haven’t had to take home some of my fajitas! So disappointing place, really. Though for people with kids, I always see a sign out that says kids eat free on a certain day. though now that I think about it Union Jack’s has a sign like that too. Oh well.

The taco salad I get there is amazing. And huge. I probably get through a fifth of it and just give up. Service at this Chevy’s is slow. It really isn’t packed when I come here. But parking at this location is wonderful, so I put up with it. Wasn’t too wowed by the margarita. Then again, it takes something with gin to wow me anyway. It was better than Don Pablo’s, that’s for sure! And of course, we can’t forget about chips and salsa. You know, I find myself JUST wanting chips and salsa. Nothing else. Nice to know I can get a «pound and pint» here and take it home. So this is a solid place to go for your Tex Mex fix.

Great happy-hour with delicious margaritas. The standard mexican food isn’t half bad either, and great portions, with their home-made tortillas, and great seasonings. the only downside to this place is the dangerously slow service. totally worth a stop in though if you live in the area.

Food is ok — a 5 on a scale of 10. The service is a –5. You won’t see your waiter unless you flag him down while calling for him/her by name. Also, saw a cockroach on the bar… yea, no thank you.

COCKROACHATMYTABLE! This is my first 1-star rating since I joined the Unilocal network. I eat lunch at Chevy’s quite often… you can’t beat the lunch chicken fajitas and the queso with chips while you wait for your food. I’m afraid, however, that my trips to Chevy’s have ended once and for all. I stopped at Chevy’s in Ballston Commons Mall on Wednesday night for dinner. I ordered a frozen margarita, chicken fajitas and queso with chips. My chips arrived along with my margarita. I was able to get through about five sips of my drink before a cockroach climbed on my table. This is no lie… the bug was about 1.5 inches in length… the largest I have ever seen. We called the manager over right away and she killed the cockroach in front of us. Her response, «I’m so, so sorry. We spray all of the time, but the other business in our building do not. I’m so sorry. I will take care of this.» I took her information and we left. I contacted corporate within five minutes of leaving their establishment. Although I have received an automated message from acknowledging receipt of my complaint, I have not received a phone call from anyone after two full business days. Bugs sound to be a fairly common problem at this establishment.

I like Chevys. I like it a lot better than Guapo’s in Shirlington. I’ve had good experiences at this location and the Pentagon City one. Service is attentive and they offer a big menu. The guacamole-my-way was good, but $ 8.49 I think is just ridiculous.

A friend of mine flew in for the night and we decided to grab food not in Crystal City, but relatively close by. Having gone to college in Ballston I figured Chevy’s would be a decent change. Food was a-ok and the portions large. Nothing too much to say other than it was completely empty on a Sunday night and the alcohol on tap selection was rather lacking.

Alright, maybe I came in here with extremely low expectations again, thus my experience ended up completely exceeding it, but first of all, the service was impeccable. DEEPAk recommended some delicious items such as the margarita with patron and patron silver(3 shots!). the margaritas ARE sweet and the alcohol is well-hidden. Patron shots are HUGE, more like 1. 5 shots in each. Their make-at-your-table guacamole is absolutely delicious and completely exceeded my low expectations. We also orderd the sampler, but since I’m not eating meat currently, I didn’t get to try anything besides a cheese quesadilla which was… as expected, just a cheese quesadilla! Service was onpoint with food and drinks coming out in a timely manner and they made sure to check up on us often. Not sayng that I will be back or will be craving it, but this experience was waaaaaaaaay over my 1 star expectations. :)

A very generous 2 stars. More like 1 ½. Just not good. I got a pinapple coconut margarita for happy hour and it was so sweet/sugary I felt like I was drinking a pixie stick. Seriously, I think I am now diabetic after having this drink(which was pretty weak to boot). The food is lackluster — from the quesadillas to enchilladas. Even the salsa is weird… it was cold and tasted like chunky tomato soup. I really don’t know what you should expect by a Mexican place named something as ethnic as «Chevy» but there’s just no reason to go here. I’d rather have Chipotle…

Chevy’s is like a high end Taco Bell in that they use real meat instead of… I dunno what Taco Bell uses, maybe the filling in high school gym mats? It takes a delicious cuisine and bastardizes it until it’s almost unrecognizable, but they do it in such a way that you say«OK. I’ll eat that.» The portions are huge and the happy hour prices cannot be beat. A plate of steak nachos can feed two people. The margaritas are a good deal too at happy hour, but be forewarned: they are mostly sugar and practically guarantee a hangover. If the margaritas could speak they’d probably be laughing manically, plotting the many ways they will destroy your brain cells and pancreas. Bottom line, I don’t go out of my way for Chevy’s, but when I’m at the Ballston Mall I make a beeline for it. Which is pretty much once a year.

The margaritas were GIANT, but VERY sweet-sour. My throat felt like it was coated in sugar after I downed one. Ack. The chicken quesadilla was pretty tasty — not spicy in any way, but it had a nice flavor. One quesadilla could have fed two moderately hungry people. I ended up taking half of it home. Our server was great, though he only had one or two other tables to tend on a very quiet Monday night, so I would hope the service would be good! He kept the drinks flowing and had our check out for us before we even asked. My tab was $ 25 for one margarita, the quesadilla, and tax/tip… not cheap. I won’t be making a special trip back for Chevy’s, but it worked well as a place to grab a drink and a quick bite to eat before seeing NEWMOON at the Ballston Commons Regal cinemas(though I think the acting would have benefited from a few more drinks — that’s a discussion for another day, though!).

Pretty high prices for a Mexican restaurant. I’m not a big fan of chain style Mexican, but they do have an interesting menu section: the fresh Tex-Mex section. I guess it’s their way of providing unhealthy food in a healthy way. I tried their artichoke enchilada. It was pretty good. It wasn’t amazing, but pretty decent. It was quite expensive though, but I guess I have to pay for my artichokes. At least the portions were huge. What’s the verdict? It’s your typical chain Mexican restaurant. It’s not authentic, but the food is okay(at least from the fresh Tex-Mex section). Nothing special here.
