John Eklund, RPh received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island, high honors, in 1974 (Phi Kappa Phi Honors). He joined Preston’s Pharmacy in 1986 upon the retirement of Mr. Preston, who established the Pharmacy in 1934

Sharon Grant, Pharm D. is a graduate of Penn. State University B.S. in Life Sciences (Minor in Nutrition). Ms. Grant received her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Howard University.

She joined Preston’s Pharmacy upon her graduation in June, 2008.

If you have enough crazy ailments or injuries, you will eventually end up at Preston’s and wonder how you ever lived without it. Need a compound Rx? A magic nursing «butter» that cures all? A very, very specific type of leg brace? That’s just the beginning of what Preston’s has. Wandering the aisles while waiting for a prescription is a wild adventure. It’s a little like going to the Ayer’s Hardware of pharmacies. Actually, it’s a lot like that, but you need to know Arlington for that. Good times. Go, get your meds, go back for the Casewell & Massey lotion that your favorite resort uses, a candy you remember but don’t see often any more, and so much more.

The minute we walked in we realized this was not the ordinary, run-​of-​the-​mill, chain pharmacy. This was our first visit and as we entered we thought that maybe it was a boutique. Then, as we progressed, we realized that we were in one of the most wonderful, remarkable pharmacies we’ve ever been in. This has to be the best durable medical equipment supplier in the area. It also is a wonderful gift shop, pharmacy, card shop, etc. etc. The wonderful, knowledgeable, patient, friendly, Louise, guided us through the confusing array of transport chairs, walkers and other mobility assistant devices. Since this was my first experience in selecting and purchasing such devices, i was not in the best emotional state as I now live in a new world of reality. Louise stepped right up to help us and explained all the advantages and disadvantages of the various brands of equipment. She conveyed wise, sensitive knowledge that was invaluable to me and my welfare. She is an outstanding representative of Preston’s who is very proud of working there and assisting confused and worried customers/​patients make their decisions. My husband and I ended our transaction with a grateful hug for Louise in appreciation for her expertise. We consider ourselves now regular customers. We need to also mention that while we were in Preston’s, we met another brand new, first time customer who was also exclaiming about all the wonderful selections and her wonderful experience. Oh, did I say, «This is a Wonderful Place!» You must visit it.

The cashier was friendly and said they would let me know as soon as my prescription came in from my doc and was ready. After waiting 45 minutes, I had to go back up to find out what was going on. They had received the prescription but had not filled it so I had to wait another 20 minutes for the pharmacist to start the order. I would not recommend this pharmacy. There are others in the area that do a much better job, even with compounded drugs.

My husband had a biking accident requiring emergency surgery and I needed several items for our home upon his discharge. I spoke with the pharmacist, returned later with photos, and purchased just what I needed to make the home safe and his assist his recovery. How refreshing to deal with knowledgeable, efficient and polite staff when under stress and bewildered by the array of choices (an advantage for sure.) I only wish they had a «cheer» pill to boost his ego and speed the healing process…

I drive out of my way to go to Preston’s Pharmacy. John is a fabulous business owner providing outstanding customer service. Twice in the past few months I’ve had medical/​pharmaceutical questions and in both instances John and other staff members have taken an extended amount of time to educate, guide and offer suggestions. Their knowledge is current, detailed and on point. Great place!

After passing this little neighborhood pharmacy for years, I finally stopped-​in to fill my daughter’s prescription after many other pharmacies were out. Upon walking in, I noticed a sign on the door encouraging customers who might of had poor service to speak with management and make it known. Also, as I waited, I also noticed the manager (owner?) (after noticing me and another customer standing at the counter), ask an employee behind the counter if all the customers were taken care of. While I get good friendly service at my local CVS, that level of care is simply not there. Preston’s seems to be determined to overcome their size disadvantage by providing customers with what was once common practice: personal, caring service at reasonable prices. If first impressions are everlasting, then mine are positive. I encourage all to give this small pharmacy a try.

Preston’s is an extraordinary pharmacy. The pharmacists are happy to answer questions and are helpful to the extreme. If you’re a frequent flyer, so to speak, the entire staff learns your name. Special orders are a speciality as well. Preston’s is a user friendly place!

I used to go here to get compounded medicines for my pets. However, I stopped going there, because the droppers they provided with the medicines were of poor quality, and they were a little more expensive than a place out in Vienna. But the staff were generally friendly and helpful.

Preston’s is a great local pharmacy. I take very uncommon drug that most other pharmacies do not carry. They told me one time that I’m the only one of their customers that uses this drug, yet they always seem to have it in stock. They were very helpful in getting a prescription filled out of state when I accidentally left it home. Old fashioned customer service yet up to date with the latest technology.

i switched from CVS at the recommendation of my dermatologist. best move i ever made.
i was repeatedly having trouble getting a difficult rx filled, and even had CVS claim it «isn’t made anymore» (false). prestons is always able to fill my rx, charges the same prices as CVS and rite aid, and doesn’t have an attitude. you can always count on getting good courteous service and care. though they only have this one location, and it is not very convenient, it is well worth the trip. great selection of other stuff, and great people. can’t recommend any more highly.
this is what you want in a pharmacy, people!

Every single staff member is so polite and pleasant and the pharmacists are all very informative. I hate going to other pharmacies because in all honesty, the pharmacists at other places almost seem impatient when you ask them questions. At Preston’s it’s the opposite, they’re all happy to answer your questions and explain very thoroughly. The gift section is one of a kind, so many fun things to look at! Especially around the holidays. Love this place!

I agree with others. I will not use a chain or mail-​order pharmacy again. I’ve been going to Preston’s for about three years. It is the only pharmacy I know that consistently offers high-​quality, customer-​focused service. The pharmacists are always happy to answer questions about the medications. The call-​in refill service is efficient and effective. Cost is often below that of other pharmacies. Also love the gift shop!

A couple of years ago, I decided to leave the chain drug stores behind, and switched my prescriptions to Preston’s. It was among the best decisions I’ve ever made and I haven’t looked back since. Preston’s offers friendly, capable service, in which a customer feels like an individual. All of Preston’s staff are wonderful! My prescriptions are always filled in a professional manner and I can relax, knowing my needs will be met. They endeavor to maintain a diverse supply of prescription medications, including one which I had a very hard time getting at the chain drug store I formerly used. They also have a broad range of braces, prescription stockings, and home care aids that one does not often see in a chain store.
You’ll also find office supplies, vitamins, and some munchies.
Of note, the store also has a beautiful selection of cards, stationery, personal care items, and gift items for the home. If you’re picking up a prescription, take some time to browse through the store. You may see something to add some cheer to someone else’s life, or your own!

I have to give 5 stars to Preston’s Pharmacy. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never used a private pharmacy before and I’m more accustomed to being one of the masses ushered by the over-​worked pharmacists at CVS, Rite Aid, etc. I’ll never go back to those chain stores again after having my prescriptions filled at Preston’s.
The actual pharmacy is in the back of a neat, clean, well lit gift store. The staff members are friendly and patient while they take your information and insurance info before your first fill. Once you’re a regular, they will autofill and then call you when it’s ready to pick up. If you don’t come by for a few days, they call again to be sure you got the message — but they aren’t annoying about it. No automated calls from here. You get a live person every time you call. And they don’t seem angry or stressed out.
The pharmacists are very knowledgeable and friendly. I had to ask a few questions about a medication and pharmacist actually spent over 5 minutes explaining the details to me.
The gift store is great, too. If you’re waiting for your RX you’ll have no trouble browsing the isles. I actually go out of my way to pick up nice hostess gifts here. There’s also a great card selection, and the usual over-​the-​counter medication isle.

My doctor suggested I start wearing compression stockings to keep my legs happier during the day. She sent me here since it was near her office. I had no idea what to look for in compression stockings and they had a wall of them. Someone came out to help me, gave me a little measuring tape to figure out what size I was, and helped me pick them out and made sure I was happy with the color and had the right size. This place isn’t really convenient to my house or I’d come here more often, but I’m a huge fan. The staff was really friendly and helpful to everyone who came to the counter, I was impressed.

I love Preston’s Pharmacy. I injured my back and needed a brace, bio-​freeze and a heating pad. they had all of those things. A sweet person from the Pharmacy even measured me and helped me pick out the right back brace and showed me how to use it. (you don’t get that at a major chain).
My grandmother was visiting town. I wanted to rent a wheel chair to take her to see the monuments. After a quick internet search I wasn’t having any luck. I thought Preston’s will know who to call. So I called to ask them who to call. and they RENT wheelchairs. I thought it would be really expensive but it’s only 55 dollars for the week. Perfect. I can take grandma around the monuments now. :)
They have a cute gift section too — if you need a birthday present or small gift for someone they are sure to have something there. It may be a bit more expensive than a chain. But I think it’s worth it to have superior service and support a great local business!

My daughter was diagnosed with severe reflux and needed a compounded medication. I called pharmacies more local to my home but none would be open on Saturday and it was 5:00 on Friday even. I talked to John at Preston’s and while they do not normally compound on Saturday he did it for me to make my baby comfortable. I will use them for as much as possible. Thank you!

I was looking for some Caspari napkins (you know, the fancy $ 5.00 a package kind that you put out with cocktails and hope that people look at but don’t actually USE) but didn’t know where there were sold in the Arlington area. I e-​mailed Caspari, and they gave me the name of Preston’s Pharmacy. I thought «a pharmacy?».
Upon entering (after parking in the fabulous parking lot), I walked into the great gift area with all sorts of gift-​y items, including exactly what I needed. A great selection of cards as well! Thank you Preston’s… but how about re-​naming yourself Preston’s Pharmacy & Gifts? :)

As if it weren’t bad enough that I had to watch my wife transform from being solely my bedroom partner to being a mother, I had to go find a breast pump to get the milk flowing so the kid didn’t starve. After calling the first few locations that were closer to my house on the Medela website, I called Preston’s Pharmacy to see if they had any pumps.
George answered the phone and saved my day by telling me that while he wasn’t allowed to reserve a pump for someone over the phone, he would take it off of the shelf for the 20 minutes I said it would take for me to get there. For $ 80 a month, I could keep the pump at home and let my wife pump to the baby’s delight.
The store itself reminded me of a more personalized pharmacy experience where you’re actually able to talk to the pharmacists and had more of a variety of sundries to shop from rather than the attempts of the larger chain stores to become Wal-​Mart Superstores (Groceries and wine in a drug store? Really?)
It’s a bit of a haul for me to get to, but if I could find something like that in McLean, I would completely be there.
