Rating for my wife who, like others who have reported here, researched and found this place to be award winning and relatively well reviewed. Her experience was aweful and resulted in her having to go to a real professional to salvage her hair. The second profesional asked if this was a new stylist, but it was not, it happened to be the owner. Very disappointed in this place but also happy that we were able to find a spot to have it fixed.

If I could give negative stars I would. Thanks to salon Joseph my hair is completely ruined… Not only in color but the fact that they bleached the absolute s**t out of my hair and completely ruined the integrity of my hair. I have always had extremely healthy and strong hair and this week I’ve had to buy every single strengthening and anti breakage product known to man, along with set up another appt with a much better salon. I went there due to the «amazing» reviews which turned out to be fake reviews and it looks like they took them down. I went in asking for a bayalage… Long story short 4 ½ later my hair is 4 different colors with banding and brassy like no other … They tell me I can come back so they can fix it. I do… Another long story short, 5 hours later my hair is bleached beyond repair with 3 different colors… My roots are a light brown, then I have a random dark brown/​black patch all the way around the crown of my head, with half of my head bleached and damaged to the point where I think I may need to cut it all off which is heartbreaking to me. I’ll attach pictures if it lets me… It is unacceptable, obviously these people weren’t trained and they have literally no idea what they are doing. I watched client after client walk out with horrible hair. Should’ve been a sign. Please don’t go here… Save your hair and your money. I’ve learned my lesson and will go back to Muse salon and my normal stylist.

I saw Miryam yesterday for a trim… She did a horrific job at layering my hair !!! It looks like I have a bob haircut and then long pieces on hair on the bottom portion! I didn’t even want to return to fix it because clearly she doesn’t know what she is doing. I am highly upset… I graduate tomorrow and all I want is a refund! But they do not grant refunds. So now I have to go to another salon to fix this horrible layers she did…

I am extremely particular with my hair. Although I currently live in the DMV, I wait to fly back out to Los Angeles to go to my stylist. However, I decided to take a chance on this place because I had messed up the color of my hair. I have asian jet black hair so I previously tried to do an ombré and it turned out brassy.
I went from brassy brown ombré to gunmetal gray ombré. So a few things I noticed:
1. When I originally emailed in to see if it was possible to fix my ombré to a gunmetal gray balayage, Joseph had told me that he didn’t recommend it. Which shows me that his reputation is pure. He wasn’t going to lie to me and pretend that he could do it just to get a new customer. He told me to wait and get my hair to a certain point.
2. After some back and forth about setting up a consultation, we finally set one up. He was extremely professional and patient with my schedule because I kept shifting things around.
3. Consultation: Aileen made me feel at ease immediately. When she talked to me she knew exactly what I wanted and admitted that this would be the first time she’s ever done a gray balayage, but walked my through the color palette and how the process would work. I admit that I was scared, but her admittance to this also showed me that she was honest and if she didn’t think she could do it, she’d make it known. I could tell that she was proud of her reputation.
4. GAME DAY (aka appointment day) — Although the salon is very simple, I think that it is perfect. There isn’t flashy whatevers around, just a really cool hair dryer that evenly distributed the heat. I was also super happy that I wasn’t put in front of a mirror to stare at myself for 3 hours. Instead, they had me sit at a table filled with magazines and in front of a TV. Aileen was extremely thorough and patient. I have a lot of hair. I constantly fill a bucket with just a trim. She painted each strand of hair like it was a painting. I was very nervous the whole time, but Aileen knew what she was doing. As soon as I saw my hair, I couldn’t help but freak out. IT WAS PERFECT. The color was everything I had wanted and more. My hair looked shinier and healthy even though it had just gone a pretty tough process.
Final Thoughts:
I am so impressed. with their professionalism and care. They clearly care about their reputation and their clients.
Advice:
With a beautiful product comes a hefty price. The only thing I’d have a con about this place is the price, but I understand why… I mean… come on… Aileen painted EACH strand of hair one by one. So be prepared to drop money for a good color.

After researching salons for two months, my husband decided Salon Joseph would be a good salon since they are «Award winning». When he called to make my appointment, he requested someone who really knew what they were doing and could help me decide which colors and cute would look best for me. We were referred to Aileen, a Master Stylist.
I told Aileen that I wanted a very natural color with very subtle balayage highlights. I even showed her photos. I also told her that I hated blunt haircuts and that I need layers. I also only wanted 4 inches cut off.
I got ALL OVER foils of bleach and brown? (I didn’t want my roots to be touched with bleach or dye.) My haircut was hideous. It was a jagged blunt cut. You could see EVERY SINGLE PASS she made. Also the under layers were MUCH shorter than the top layer.(I didn’t see the cut errors until I blow dried my hair myself) And way more than 4 inches was cut off.
Clearly a HUGE communication error. It was almost as if she didn’t hear me. Or didn’t care to hear me.
When I walked out into the sunlight, my hair was purple. My husband walked back in and asked why my hair was purple. They assured us that it would wash out. As the day continued, it got worse. And by that evening, the crown of my head was orange and my ends were lavander. After washing my hair, the purple didn’t fade and I got a close look at the cut, and immediately called the salon.
Solution: No questions asked, the salon refunded our money. I went to Cincinnati to have my hair fixed by someone I trusted. The stylist who fixed my hair couldn’t believe how terrible my cut and color were. She just kept cringing.
Please ladies, POST PICTURES of your hair (good or bad) so women can make an educated decision. As for me and my hair, I will never be back. While I was at Salon Joseph, I saw what the other stylists were putting out, the owner included, and it wasn’t impressive. And certainly not award winning.

I’ve been going to Joe for about eight years now. He is the best! He has cut my hair short helped me grow it out with stylish cuts and we recently cut it from very long to very short. I would only trust him to doing that. I get complements almost daily on my cut (stacked reverse bob). He is also fabulous with color. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

I worked with Mariam today and she was wonderful! Ombré got outgrown in a bad way and Mariam saved me. I got cut and color for a very reasonable price and made a new Latina friend to come chat with and make my hair look good.
Highly recommend Joseph Salon.

Very happy with the color I got from Daniel. I came in with what can only be described as a disaster on my head. Another Arlington salon, which shall remain nameless, did some really weird stuff with my color so I had a band of light blonde around my head. They said it couldn’t be fixed. Well, Daniel fixed it and recommended a slightly darker shade which I liked better anyway. And, he was quick and gave me a blowout without heaping a bunch of product in my hair. Hallelujia! In addition, the washing stations are actually comfortable, which is rare!
There is one minor drawback, however. They have a big table that everyone is seated around which they have color applied. That works for grabbing additional magazines to read, but could be annoying if you have other people at the table having conversations you’re not interetsed in. (as was the case while I was there). I’ll certainly be back, but next time I’ll ask to sit at the regular station.

Nothing but good things to say about Salon Joseph, especially Daniel! I’ve been coming here for over two years for cuts and blonde highlights. The color always looks wonderful — people are surprised when word gets out that I’m not a natural blond! My hair is very thick and tangly and takes a little extra time to style. Daniel realized this in my first visit and he and the front desk staff always made room for the extra ten minutes it took to get a brush through it. When I went from super-​long hair to a stacked bob I was thrilled with the shape and feel of my new short do. I literally got compliments from strangers on my haircut. Sad that I’m leaving the DC area and won’t be able to see Daniel anymore and strongly recommend him and the salon to anyone looking for a high-​quality cut or color.

I have had a great experience with Joy every time I’ve come. I appreciate how easy it always is to schedule (or change) appointments, and their reasonable prices. Parking can be tricky, and they do not accept tips on credit cards, so come prepared.

I seriously wonder how this salon got the award for the best hair salon in Arlington for 2013.

1. Hair length was only shorten. it has no style as requested. Not worth $ 70.
Im a first time customer. i showed Joseph some pictures of hair styles i prefer to have. He used his judgment and said it wont be suitable for me. So i said, i wanna change my hair style, pls give me a hair cut based on yr judgment.
I ended up having my long hair being cut to shorter length. Thats it! No style. No bangs. Just shorten. And it costed $ 70 to just shorten yr hair. This work can be done at any other salon for less than $ 50. ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTED.
2. Condescending
When Joseph finished the haircut, i simply asked… so no bangs with this hairstyle?! He said, «Do u know what bangs is?»
3. Service requested, was not provided
Once i got in, they were acting all nice. A gal asked me whether i want some drink. I told her i would like to have some water TWICE. No water… even until i finished the haircut and made the payment.
4. Unnecessary service is provided
Once the haircut is done, joseph and the other gal blew dry my hair with 4 big round combs. Each of them pull my hair to each side. I just felt that they kept pulling my hair and i felt dizzy and uncomfortable. Seriously?! 2 people to blow dry my less than normal amount of hair. Is it necessary?!

For anyone who is challenged finding a salon that can color & highlight dark hair, I highly recommend Joseph. I’ve searched many, many salons in the past five years that I’ve lived in this area, including Andre Chreky, Frizzles and PR Partners. They were all a big FAIL. Joseph seemed to understand the science behind dark hair and how to avoid those orange streaks with highlighting.

For most of my adult life, I have prided myself on being able to take a pair of electric clippers and give myself a decent haircut. No, it doesn’t have that «salon» look, but it looks good enough, gets rid of the shag, and saves me a ton of money.
Then one day I decided go get a real haircut. I had heard good things about Salon Joseph, so I showed up and let Susan work her magic. And magic it was! She worked with my particular brand of giant head and unique follicular issues, and for $ 40 I got a cut that looked great, grew out well, and netted me COMPLIMENTS. From ladies! Attractive ones!
I don’t like parting with my hard-​earned money if I don’t have to, but I now consider this a necessary expense. I look and feel so much better when Susan cuts my hair. I go there about once every six weeks now, and I feel out-​of-​sorts when the appointment has to be pushed back due to my schedule. I recently moved to Silver Spring but I will still make the regular drive to Salon Joseph because it is that good.
Every six weeks means over 8 haircuts per year. At $ 320, that’s a hell of a lot more expensive than the $ 20 pair of clippers I picked up at the Best Buy. But it’s worth it. Highly recommended!

Don’t let the location/​outward appearance fool you. It’s in a tiny strip mall with three parking spots in front, but this salon is a gem. I had a haircut with Susan, and she was spectacular. I have weird hair, and I’m almost always unsatisfied with haircuts, but Susan was a pro. I didn’t even know exactly what I wanted aside from super short (I came in with hair past my shoulders), so she talked to me and we decided options and she said «I can always cut more off,» and off she went. She listened to me (which I have found rare among hair stylists) and was efficient and good. Highly recommended.
Only thing is, it is expensive (I ended up paying about $ 75 with tip). But with their fantastic customer service and skilled stylists, it’s worth it.

Big fan of this salon. Jordan has been cutting my hair for almost a year now, and she’s great. It took me 3 years bouncing around stylists before I found her, and now I don’t know what I did without her. She’s great about listening to what I want, but isn’t afraid to suggest new things.
It’s not cheap ($ 60/​haircut), but I always feel OK about it. She puts in the time, doesn’t rush you, and you always leave looking your best.

Extremely over price… and not worth it. That’s all.
Any Hair Cuttery will do exactly the same for much more less.

Small place with excellent customer service and stylish, if spare, décor. I’ve been getting periodic haircuts (medium-​length curly hair) from Joseph for about three years. He is a warm, friendly guy who clearly has a lot of experience. He had his own clientele in a larger salon across the street until about two years ago. Another stylist here gave me very nice, understated reddish highlights a year or so ago. There is also a reasonable selection of hair products up front for purchase.
I also brought all the ladies in my wedding party here last year (planned with Joseph in advance, obviously), and they handled it very well and executed our ideas of what we wanted done.
Like most hair salons, they take credit cards for payment but not for tips. Definitely make an appointment, and note that it’s not always easy to find a weekend appointment with less than 2 weeks notice.
It’s located at the end of a strip mall, and it’s easy to miss the parking lot entrance on the first try. The salon has about three reserved spots directly in front for customers.

I can’t believe anyone under 50 has there hair done here. I walked in and entered old lady time warp. Eeeck. Old, dirty, and yuck. I left. If they can’t even care about the cleanliness and appearance of the salon, how can they really care about the appearance of your hair?
I finally got some free time to post about my travels and experiences, so I don’t think a reader assumes the post date of a review is the same as the date of service. I stand by my reviews 100%. Your salon could stand 4 updating but I think my mom would like it regardless.

Hey, they did a great job with my daughter’s wedding party, and maybe they’re the place where my daughter got her nice, new, shorter cut, so I’m giving them a five unless I hear otherwise.
