History
Established in 1993.
The history of our North Carolina B&B begins in 1907 when David Latourette Jackson, a businessman who owned the Euneeda Bakery and Dairy restaurant, purchased two lots on what had been called Iola Circle and was changed to Cumberland Circle. Those land tracts are where the house at 46 Cumberland Circle, called «Jackson-Peyton House» on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, also known as Abbington Green Bed & Breakfast Inn, now stands.
Architect Richard Sharp Smith was engaged to draw up plans for a substantial home for Mr. Jackson. Richard Sharp Smith had been the Supervising Architect at the Biltmore Estate while it was being constructed for George Vanderbilt from 1890 – 1895. the house was purchased by Mr. Wythe Peyton in 1921. Mr. Peyton was one of NC’s first highway engineers. He later became Post Master of Asheville. We attribute our gardens to him. The house became a «group style» rental property, and then finally was purchased and restored as a B&B in 1993.
Meet the Business Owner
Nick P.
Business Owner
Owning an Inn has been a long time passion of mine. Fifteen years ago I began a file folder of ideas, articles, and clipping of things I would want in my Inn one day.
I knew once I started looking for an Inn, Asheville was the place I wanted to be. The moment I walked into Abbington Green, it felt like home. The historic charm, the modern conveniences, and the close proximity to downtown encompass what I would like in an Inn.
I enjoy entertaining guests and friends. There is nothing better than conversation and sharing stories while enjoying a delicious breakfast in the morning. How your day begins is important to me.
My education in hospitality, and my Greek heritage, has taught me the importance of making guests feel welcome. I have a sign that hangs outside the front or that reads, «What I love most about my home is who I share it with.» That’s what you will find in Abbington Green Bed and Breakfast Inn.
I hope to see you soon, Nick
