The Lion and the Rose

What a beautiful and comfortable BB! My husband and I drove down in a snow storm for a «child-​free» overnight getaway and had an absolutely wonderful stay! Lisa was a great host and we arrived to find a bottle of wine waiting in our room (we were celebrating my husband’s 30^th birthday). The bed was comfortable and cozy and since we were the only guests we enjoyed sitting by one of the beautiful fireplaces while sipping wine and chatting late into the night. Breakfast was delicious! We’ll definitely be back!

Great place to stay. We will be back. Lisa makes amazing breakfasts and is warm and welcoming.

Everything about this place is just as advertised and better. We stayed in the Fannie Rice room and were duly impressed with the bed (beautiful and very comfortable), cleanliness and decoration of the room and the bathroom with big, fluffy towels. Our hostess, Madeline, was excellent.

We stay at the Lion & the Rose once or twice a year when visiting Asheville and never he we been disappointed! Jim and Linda are wonderful hosts and we also fell in love with Cedrick, their cute little dog.
The place is clean and beautiful and has a remarkably welcoming and cozy style. There is a little pantry for the guests with snacks, tea, coffee, juice and water as well as a little cabinet with some desert wines. Jim makes a gorgeous breakfast for all the guests every morning.
The rooms are wonderful and cozy — repeat visitors should try to stay in a different one each time. We did and it’s always great.
It’s easy to get to downtown Asheville — just a couple of minutes by car, but it’s even walkable. Also the Biltmore Estate is only a few minutes away.
There is a wonderful Jamaican restaurant almost right across the street and some other restaurants are recommended in the booklet that guests find in every room.
All in all a great place and it will always be our first choice in Asheville.

Lovely house, clapboard with hardwood floors, doors, etc. Well appointed: comfortable rugs, tasteful furniture, thoughtful selection of books, DVDs, guest pantry. Cordial, low key, competent innkeepers. Cozy, well priced. The sort of place that would be a ‘red two-​tower’ in the traditional Michelin Red Guide if it covered the US.

We stayed in the Lion & the Rose’s Fannie Mae room on our way through to Western NC. It was much preferable to a generic hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bath products were high quality. There were several other delightful couples staying there as well, and we had a great time visiting with them at breakfast. They deliver coffee to your room each morning, which is so nice, but the coffee didn’t taste great. We also had noise from Moogfest (window a/​c units had not yet been installed, so windows were open). Overall, we had a good stay and would recommend to friends.

Ok so I have to give in and stay someplace nice. I wanted to stay at the mountaineer Inn but my wife said he’ll no. So I settle on a concept I hated in theory a bed and breakfast. My preconceived ideas were hit and miss. First the folks that run this place we’re scary nice. I watch to many horror movies I guess and expected them to attack me. But they never hit, just asked if there was anything I needed and smiled. Big ups for not killing me in my sleep. Second breakfast was pretty good and we did not have to wait in line for an hour. Third the free snack pantry. Free bottles of water, cookies, and soda… can’t beat that when u are going to be walking all day. Great room, clean and safe feeling, house was very nice, easy to find and park. All around great stay and cheaper than downtown hotels.

We stayed here for a romantic weekend away and so pleased we did instead of the Biltmore. Easy walk to downtown Asheville. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and clean. Owners were extremely warm and welcoming but out of your hair. Breakfast was delicious and house featured a complimentary pantry with snacks, beverages and after dinner drinks. One of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed in.

This was my first time staying at a B&B, and unfortunately for other B&Bs the bar was set extremely high. The innkeepers were super nice, the house was well decorated and well kept, the location was quiet but not too far out of the way, and the price was very reasonable. Then there is the breakfast. Wow. It was incredible. Sweet potato pancakes, grit stuffed omelet, etc. They also provide coffee outside the door every morning as well as a selection of snacks and beverages downstairs.
We stayed in the third floor suite which has a TV in both the bedroom and the common room. There is a table and two chairs on the small balcony outside the bedroom as well as a sort of dining nook inside the the bedroom looking out over the front yard. They have a decent selection of DVDs on the second floor you can watch. There is a jacuzzi style tub as well as a large walk in shower with two shower heads.
The only reason I wouldn’t stay here on a trip to Asheville is if they don’t have a room available, and even then I might consider rescheduling the trip to fit with a vacancy.

Best B&B we’ve ever visited. The innkeepers were great, the rooms were spotless, the free food and drinks were a surprise, and the location was close enough to downtown Asheville, but still felt secluded. They provided vegetarian food for us each morning, and said they would even do vegan if we needed.
Only downside is that the floors are pretty creaky (well, at least the staircase), so I felt like I’d wake everyone up if I came in late. Other than that, this place is a gem!

We stayed here on a quick «romantic» trip to Asheville, opting to give one of the B&Bs a try rather than crash at a hostel or cheap hotel, and the extra money was very well spent. It was beautiful, well-​kept but comfy, and a 15 minute walk to downtown, so we could leave the car parked here and not have to worry about parking or inebriated driving! Yay!
Extras include: a full tour upon arrival by one of the super-​sweet owners, coffee left outside your door at 8am, a vegetarian AND vegan option for breakfast (they were very concerned with our dietary needs, and asked twice), TV in the room with an eclectic collection of DVDs, port and sherry and complimentary chocolates, and a cool gardened yard. Awesome!
