We had breakfast at The Potato Wedge while staying in Ashville in December. The food was good and the service was outstanding. We meant the owner we was very friendly and cool to talk to. Give them a try if your in town!

I love a good off-the-beaten-path find, especially when it means bypassing the crazy weekend waits at the more popular establishments in Asheville. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a letdown. Don’t depend on their coffee for your day’s caffeine — it tastes like water. The food was good, though the Russian omelette portion felt a bit small. I think it’s a bit silly that there’s a $ 1.20 upcharge to get potatoes on the side… didn’t i come to The Potato Wedge? Along those lines, the potatoes were also woefully under seasoned and bland. Our waitress forgot our toast… we reminded her… and then she forgot them in the toaster. Sigh. I hate being this UGH about a restaurant where otherwise the staff was so sweet. I think I’m just cranky because I have a 2 hour drive ahead of me where I’ll now still need to buy coffee elsewhere and be munching on a granola bar to curb the hunger.

Similar to another Unilocaler, I romped around Asheville for a long time, discouraged about the crazy long wait times for more popular breakfast/brunch spots. We wound up here, and I’m glad. The wait staff was so sweet– family! We learned about the history of the family and the restaurant. I wish I would have tried the more authentic/Polish items on the menu! Had country ham & eggs, and it was inexpensive, tasty, and filling. Nothing too fancy, but the wait staff was attentive and so so friendly!

This was a great little find! We were starving and the hipster breakfast places that are famous in Asheville were packed and the lines were filled with more people than seats at those places. That’s when we decided to check out something a little off the beaten path — The Potato Wedge. We came in on a Sunday morning and it was quiet and not crowded — win. The staff was friendly — win. Our order came out quickly — win. The food is hearty and the atmosphere speaks to the tune of local family diner and regular customers. Great place and I think you’re in for a treat if you’re hungry for breakfast, want to dodge the buzz of those other popular breakfast joints, and don’t mind a little drive out of downtown.

Not impressed… I came in to just place a to go order. The waitress was nice and friendly, but the atmosphere was not pleasant. A family was there being incredibly loud and inappropriate. One lady was on the phone yelling and cussing at a «baby daddy» while her newborn was screaming and her other 2 kids were running around and throwing spaghetti. Nothing was said to them, and I was so thankful I was only getting food to go. Food was bland and not worth the money. Definitely not going back.

My wife and I noticed The Potato Wedge the other day, and today we decided to give it a try. We were delighted to find a Polish/Russian restaurant within an easy drive from our house. We enjoyed Kielbasa Ruben sandwiches and Ruskie Potatoes. We’ll be back with our friends.

Great little diner! Servers are very nice and the owner is very entertaining. The only complaint that I had was I would like to see half-and-half and real butter on the table. One of the best breakfast I’ve had!

Here’s the deal with the potato wedge: you have to go into it with certain expectations. 1) This is not a floofy brunch place. There’s no stuffed french toast or smoked salmon eggs benedict. 2) You should probably not be in a huge hurry or starving to death, because it’s gonna be a leisurely dining experience. 3) You’re going to leave very, very full. We rolled in there around 10AM on a Sunday, as did several other groups, which seemed to overwhelm the kitchen. There were still empty tables and no line, so I’m guessing the kitchen was just short-staffed. The service seemed a little disorganized in general, several times waitresses emerged from the kitchen with food and didn’t know which table it was supposed to go to, let alone who at the table had ordered it. They are very enthusiastic about refilling your coffee, often asking«would you like a refill?» while they are already pouring, which sort of defeats the purpose of asking and messes with the sugar/coffee/cream ratio if you’re not a black coffee drinker. We waited for a pretty long time for food after ordering, at least a half an hour if not more, especially for breakfast food which is generally pretty quick. However, the food was(mostly) worth the wait. The russkies potatoes and latkes are delicious, the biscuits are fluffy, pancake was good, the bacon is cooked perfectly as were my over-easy eggs, which many places can’t seem to get right. Less thrilled with the white gravy and the shredded hashbrown style potatoes. You get a huge amount of food for a small price, and so long as you are willing to wait and know what to order, it’s worth it. When we return to Weaverville(we live in Raleigh) I am sure it will continue to be a part of our rotation. We might just try to come earlier or on a weekday morning when they’d hopefully be less overwhelmed.

The reviews I read lured me in. The reviews appear quite inaccurate. The food was bland. The condiments were chemical whip fake butter, low quality corn syrup, and nearly stale bread. Premium price for poor quality.

My boyfriend and I have just moved from Nashville a week ago and had been really missing a good country breakfast. Although the gluten free farm fed places are good, sometimes you just want some breakfast. This is your spot. I got the country Benny and it was so good! Will be back

My husband and I often come here on the weekends when we are tired of over the top waits and long lines for the hipster breakfast joints. I love this place because it is not pretentious at all, in fact it lacks a bit décor wise but… the fact that they make real hollandaise sauce for their egg benny goes a long way! They use mostly fresh ingredients. like spinach and everything comes out quickly. All the staff is friendly and this is a family owed place so their recipes are very homespun and their potato dishes are great aka their new name. It’s comfort food well done, at least for breakfast!

Visited this cute little place this past weekend and we loved it! Great food at a decent price. Loved the staff… the home-y feel… and the fact that they wouldn’t take no for an answer when refilling my coffee cup :)

Interesting experience today. I had the kielbasa Reuben sandwich, and wife had the stuffed cabbage and«Russkies» Russian potatoes onions and that was about it. The atmosphere here is a bit clunky, loud refrigerator buzzing incessantly. Not the cleanest nor the most comfortable, but the food seems good enough, especially for the price and convenience.

We came to this restaurant because of the other great reviews on Unilocal and we were not disappointed. The menu is large, great for those that want to eat out on a budget, and you just can’t beat the good service. This establishment is family owned and we felt right at home. The owner and her daughter served us and treated us with the utmost kindness. I had trouble deciding between several things on the menu, so I have made a point to go back in the future.

We had breakfast here. It’s was very good. The service was great very attentive and helpful. I had the special of, 4 pieces of french toast 2 eggs and 2 pieces of sausage. It had a diner feel and is a great place for breakfast. I would go back definitely.

We had breakfast at The Potato Wedge earlier this week and were pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu and reasonable prices. Our server was friendly, helpful and very attentive. The owner Carol came out to check on us and gave the story behind the photos on the restaurant’s walls. The coffee is by means gourmet and is more along the lines of the quality of diner coffee but the rest of the experience more than made up for it.

I really enjoy this place. Overall the location is the biggest reason for me to visit. The food is good but doesn’t seem to be particularly exceptional. The staff is a great reason to go. Service is exceptional and I find myself tipping better than normal at this venue. Breakfast is my favorite meal and they certainly have it down

Great breakfast. Home fries did not disappoint. Definitely get the biscuits and gravy. Service was on point and super friendly. My only complaint was that the table was sticky.

When on vacation in a town with many good restaurants, I don’t like to eat at the same one twice. But on a recent visit to Asheville, we had breakfast twice at the Potato Wedge, and if we’d stayed a third day, we probably would have eaten there again. The breakfast menu is extensive, with all the offerings you’d expect, plus more. Not just hash browns and home fries, but little latkes and the house specialty Ruskie potatoes: diced potatoes sauteed with bacon and onions, which were excellent. Other offerings, such as blintzes, hint at the owners’ Eastern European roots.(Those would have been what I ordered for that third breakfast had I gotten a chance.) My husband really enjoyed his corned beef hash omelet, and the grits he had alongside were great – much better than I’ve had a lot of places. I wasn’t wild about the sausage gravy I had on a biscuit the first day, but the biscuit with country ham I had the second day was just fantastic. I’ve eaten a lot of biscuits, and that may have been one of the best I ever had. The kids’ pancakes were huge, tender and fluffy.(I mean, I had to taste everything if I was writing a review, right? That’s just good journalism.) Another detail, and an important one to us: the servers were very willing to pay attention to and to accommodate my daughter’s food allergies. A lot of people don’t take food allergies seriously, which can make an otherwise pleasant meal out scary for parents who know allergies can be deadly. Thanks to the very kind staff here, we were able to relax and enjoy some really good food.

If you just want a simple, inexpensive, hearty breakfast without any hype or attitude, this might be your place. They have all the standard American/southern fare(eggs, pancakes, potatoes, grits, biscuits w/gravy, fried bologna), with a few surprises(like blintzes or potato latkes from the owner’s grandmother’s recipes). The building isn’t much to look at on the outside, but the inside is clean and bright. Yesterday, I enjoyed my western omelet. Okay, it was more of the grill kind of omelet than the fluffy kind, but the onions and peppers were crunchy and fresh and it tasted great. The Ruskie potatoes are very tasty, but you really don’t want to know the ingredients(okay, it is bacon). Being a breakfast fiend, I went back there today and figured I could handle the hungry man breakfast. Wrong! Thankfully, my hubby helped me out. I don’t think I will eat again until tomorrow. Their coffee isn’t the greatest but it was hot and my cup was kept full. The weakest links are probably the coffee and the toast. Next time, I’ll try a biscuit.
