Astoria Wine and Spirits

I live a few blocks away, and the two closer liquor stores by me are just AWFUL. I came in here to get some champagne and red wine and had an amazing experience. Sales Associate was very sweet and helpful, and explained my options and the different price points. Lay out was super cute and trendy. I also loved that they had organic options as well. Will definitely be returning.

I absolutely love having AW&S in the neighborhood. Yes, there may be some stores with cheaper bottles of wine, but if you purchase a $ 10 bottle of wine here, it’s actually going to be a good wine, not just a cheap one. They carry a well-​curated, thoughtful selection of wines and liquors. I also appreciate the handwritten descriptions. The staff isn’t really likely to offer help in selecting a bottle, but if you ask, they are more than happy to assist you.

Gotta agree with the hootch gang here. Solid joint. I was calling around to find a kind of bourbon I wanted. They had it. They let me pay for it over the phone, and they kept it on hold for me. My schedule blew up, I wasn’t able to pick it up for three days, and they were completely easy breezy Chuck E. Cheesy about it. Friendly, peaceful energy to the store, stand apart from the local stores in energy and layout, looked like some really good selections which I’d love to explore further.

The way a wine shop should be done. Great selection of wines and spirits across the spectrum of price. My new favorite things are the cognac, and those lovely Californian chardonnays — neither of which I have ever been a fan of until recently.
Generally good service and advice (what we pay the premium for, right?), though there is a younger gentleman that sometimes runs the store and comes across as a bit disengaged. As such 4 stars.
Tip: pay attention to the signage, they frequently have interesting tastings — the kind where you may actually want to buy something!

In addition to a great selection of wines, this place at times also shows the work of local artists. It’s the only place in Astoria that I can think of where you can get beaujolais nouveau, which I appreciate immensely.
However, while the wine selection is decent for a store this size, they could do better with the spirits. The selection is pretty basic.

I have to add one star to this review, as I have returned several times to Astoria Wine & Spirits and occasionally found a good bottle of wine. They do charge full retail for their wines, and the quality is hit or miss, but overall, it is a good shop.

I went here to pick up wine for a party at my friend’s house, and the man working there was really helpful. I explained that I wanted one mid-​range red and one cheap red, and he helped me pick two real winners. They had wine tasting (it was a Friday night), but I was in a hurry so I didn’t get to try it. I loved the store, though! Good selection and prices! I’ll definitely be back.

To be fair, I’ve only been here once but it was a very nice experience. This is where I bought my first bottle of organic red wine. I checked a few organic supermarkets and couldn’t find any. This place saved me. I needed a bottle of organic red wine for Thanksgiving. I called before I stopped by. The owner showed me where the organic reds are and was very knowledgable about the wines too. I asked her which one is her best seller and bought it. Mission accomplished.
I will definitely stop by here again when I want to check out more wine selections. It’s too bad that I’m not a big drinker myself though.

Favorite wine shop! They have a unique collection of bottles to select and very knowledgeable staff. The pairings they recommend complete my dinners.

This is a charming wine shop with a variety of European and domestic wines. The wines are displayed in a very inviting way. It isn’t one of those crammed East Village spots where there isn’t time or space to thoughtfully consider your options and food pairings. Most bottles here have handwritten notes explaining the highlights of the different options. Shopping here made me want to throw a dinner party.
There’s also liquor.

Absolutely cannot beat Astoria Wine and Spirits. Best wine shop in Astoria.
I am not a wine expert by any means, so the descriptions of most wines that they include are extremely helpful to me. Friendly and very knowledgeable staff that is willing to help with selections. If they don’t have what you’re looking for, they always have good alternative suggestions. Prices range from super affordable, to more high end.
They always have a changing table with seasonal recommendations, and/​or recommendations for holidays — makes selecting a wine (especially for a novice) much easier.
They also have a fantastic spirits selection, and great gift bags and wine stoppers (good for gifts).

Knowledgable but not pushy staff and good selection. The location is great because the joint Bier and Cheese venture is next door!

I love this store. Yes, the prices may be a tad higher than some of the other liquor stores around Astoria, but this place is clean and bright and full of art, charm, and character. The staff is knowledgeable. The clever tags and labels are super helpful. And the wine tastings are fun! (Sure, I’ve experienced less-​than-​chipper sales persons on occasion, but then I remember that most cashiers in this town never bother to look or thank me or say anything other than screaming «NEXT!» at the person who is obviously next.) I wouldn’t go anywhere else to buy wine!!! I LOVE that they have description tags over a majority of the wine so I know what I am buying. You can’t go wrong with whatever bottle you pick up. Everything is curated very nicely. LOVE this place!

First time I was there, I was put off that they didn’t have my favorite gin or bourbon. They don’t carry major brands of most spirits, but they were a) happy to explain why they can’t carry them and b) able to steer me to much BETTER stuff that costs about the same.
Most of their stick is niche, some of it amazingly so. Luckily they have regular tastings and even some open tasting bottles.
They know their stuff and aren’t snotty about it. They are friendly and honest about the qualities of all their spirits (and will admit if they do not know).
As for wine, I don’t know a lot about it, but they have always steered me the right way.

Oh, Astoria Wine & Spirits, how I love thee! Let me count the ways:
1. The employees are incredibly knowledgeable about wine and are super nice and helpful! I’ve gone in there several times and they always offer their advice. Never rude and always willing to recommend wine, no matter what color it is you’re looking for.
2. They have a variety of prices and places – sure some of the wines are a little steep but you can also find bottles for about $ 10 which is very reasonable. I also love that they literally have wines from all over, and not just internationally but even locally in terms of New York state.
3. It’s simply adorable and supports local artists. I love walking in there and seeing different artwork every couple of weeks. I absolutely love it!
4. Free wine tastings every Friday. This is literally the best thing that a wine shop can offer and I don’t’ know many that do! It’s great because you get to taste wines you otherwise wouldn’t try and if you go early enough you beat the crowd.
5. Those awesome chalk drawings outside! I love the dinosaur.
So yes, those are all the reasons I love this place and I truly recommend anyone living in this area who loves wine to stop by and check it out.

I’ve gotten my wine from various places around Astoria, but I have to say that this place is probably the best. The selection isn’t huge, but they have a lot of nice choices to choose from. The people whole work there are super friendly and helpful and that is of HUGE importance when it comes to selecting wine in my opinion.
The employees there are so knowledgeable that they know how to suggest exactly what you are looking for, while fitting your budget.

My main interest here lies along the right side wall of the establishment. While I am a wine lover, it is their selection of out of the ordinary and/​or local whiskies, gins and other hard liquors that really give my tongue an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.
If you want to live a premium lifestyle (think Jay Z or… Martha Stewart), wean yourself off of Jim Beam, Captain Morgan and Beefeater and try some of the products offered here. Not only will you enjoy the flavor of your chosen inebriant more, you will appear less of a degenerate douche. It’s a win-​win proposition.
After all– who would you rather be around– the turd in a wifebeater drinking Wild Turkey out of a dirty water glass, or the sparkly, suave gent sipping Hendricks with a twist? If you chose the latter, welcome… welcome to Astoria Wine and Spirits.

I feel the prices here are slightly more expensive than other Wine and Spirits in Astoria. It’s a very cute little store though — I will give them that.
I asked the maid where the ice wines are and she had no clue what I was talking about. I had to do a bit of navigation myself to find what I wanted.
It’s a very cute shop with friendly service. But unfortunately when it comes to Wine and Spirits I much prefer price point and knowledge of staff.
