Bank of America

Steinway and 38^th Street branch has got to be the worst I’ve ever been to. I don’t know why I even bother but everytime I come here there can be 3 tellers behind the window but only one working and everyone else chatting. The manager has people waiting while he chit chats with other colleagues.

This branch USED to be so great! They knew my wife and I by name and greeted us each time so warmly and professionally. The lines were often short since they scheduled enough tellers and if they didn’t or they got a sudden rush the manager would step in and help customers. Sadly, this is no longer true for this location. They are slow, inefficient, rude, unprofessional undertrained and sexist. This new régime started roughly a year and a half ago when they switched all the staff and management. Since then the lines are often very long due to only 1 or 2 tellers working that are under trained and often make mistakes and don’t know what they are doing such as money orders or cashiers checks. They once pulled a cashiers check off a wrong account that did not have the funds to cover it and over drew the account resulting in penalties. This was obviously an unauthorized transaction since we signed off to have the funds removed from a different account.
The manager, Djalal Khoulani, will sit at his desk doing nothing except staring at the line which is often 8 or more people long. I often wait upwards of 20 minutes or more. Now I also mentioned sexist, so I should clarify. My wife went in to change her name and he questioned her like she was lying. Then asked her why she wanted to change her name and that he didn’t care about her marriage certificate. She ended up having to call our banker to do so.
Before the change in staff we never had a problem and if we did, it was quickly solved. As well as writing this review we are planning on contacting the BOA corporate office to file a complaint. So in short, avoid this bank like the plague!

Location: Separate area from the shopping centers.

If you live in ditmars forget about using this BOA. It is way too far from the subway stop. I just ended up closing all my BOA accounts and switching to chase who has two locations on both sides of the street. :)

The employees were pleasant and helpful enough, and the inside of the bank itself is not too shabby… but the location is simply too far from the Ditmars station! Chase and TD Bank are located on the same block as the station, so why isn’t BoA? Why do they make customers trek down an industrial, unfriendly street and across a gigantic parking lot? Boohoo.

I’ve never even been to this BoA but its location is so abhorrent I don’t think I ever will. I know a lot of people that use BoA that live in Astoria or are just visiting us, and EVERYONE complains about the lack of an atm nearby. It should be closer to the subway. If you are near the Astoria/​Ditmars stop and need a BoA atm, I recommend just going to the McDonalds and paying the 99 cent fee… that’s what I end up doing.

This Bank of America is really the Bank of BFE. Its so far away from the subway that its almost pointless to even come here. One of the biggest pet peeves I have about Astoria is their lack of BofA ATMs /​Banking Centers and I dread coming here to visit friends or go out knowing that I have to get cash from some ATM that is likely to charge me a fee. I decided to not be such a lazy bum and chance the only BofA in this area, even though its a bit far out.
Though it is a little less than a mile out (think 50^th Street to Herald Square), it is all just for an ATM! It is in the middle of nowhere in Astoria and in the territory where cars rule the pavement more than feet do.
The ATM itself is beat up and the ATM card barely fits into the designated slot (scary). This is a really shady spot, an area ideal for muggings with little witnesses. This BofA lies in a big empty parking lot sharing it with a liquor store and a Best Yet supermarket, surrounded by fences of graffiti.
I guess I’ll have to stick to the ATMs in the city.
