The food was really good, a little odd Selection though. This is a plus and minus I guess, thy have specialty Mac and cheeses but have many Asian influenced dishes.
We Got the dumplings and Asian nachos to start. Both tasted really good, but they were very small. Not enough to share really. The main courses were also quite small, which I don’t mind but it is expensive for such a Small portion.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff!

The food was good. But overall, my experience wasn’t the best. Our waiter kept disappearing and took a very very long time to bring us our check. We had to ask 2 other people to find him. I probably won’t be going back.

Came here for Saturday brunch with a girlfriend.
The place is small and was packed when we arrived; most likely due to everyone wanting to eat the delicious food they offer.
We were squeezed between two couples who were already enjoying their meals. We did the bottomless which was an additional $ 25 per person to whatever we ordered; they don’t have a set price for bottomless with an entrée.
We got the chicken gone wild and bacon banana chocolate chip pancakes. Both were unbelievably delicious and the 3 pancakes were so big I couldn’t finish it. The mimosas were excellent as well.
Our bill came out to just under $ 100 which is a bit pricey for brunch outside of the city however the food is so good we may just have to come back for another visit.
The food alone deserves 5 stars however the spot is so small and they squeeze as many tables and they can into the place so it’s not the most comfortable eating experience… after a few drinks you become friends with everyone there though lol

Love brunch at the Shady Lady! The service here was great the two times I went here for brunch with friends.
The chicken and waffles are not to be missed! I devoured my order and didn’t leave any for my friends to try! The second time I went and had an omelet with a side salad (bikini season IS coming), and it was excellent! Both times the manager walked by to make sure we were happy with our meals, which we definitely were.
I’m a fan!

I love coming here for brunch. I think I may be so bold as to say this is my favorite brunch spot!!! The food is impeccable and imaginative. It does get a little busy so the service is spotty at times– it’s not their fault. Waiting on brunch. Is. The. Worst. It’s not fun. I salute them.
They have a dish called «back to bed Mac and cheese» which is so apt that it’s sad. Pretty much everything I eat there makes me want to go to bed after because it’s so satisfying.
Cheese grits are great. Croissant French toast. And their signature Shady Lady hibiscus mimosa.

The additional bottoms less brunch is for an hour and a half and an additional cost of $ 25 on top of your meal and the meals are the cheapest. I ordered the chicken and waffles and was surprisingly pleased. It wasn’t too crispy but just enough and it wasn’t dry, but tender and juicy. I personally love spice so the siracha plus syrupy sauce was a great addition to the flavor.
But a perk if you’re not a bottomless drinker, each meal does come with one free drink. They are very on top of their bottomless drink time though. They will write on a piece of paper the time period as to when you have your bottomless drinking until.
The service can be a little better, since an hour and a half goes by fast, you practically have to chug your drinks.

I came here with 3 other people for a Sunday Brunch around 1PM. The place was packed and the host said it would be about 30 minutes for a table so we waited. The host was kind enough to add a chair to the end of our table when we had one more person join us last minute.
We were immediately greeted by our waitress who explained the bottomless brunch deal, which ⁴⁄₅ people opted for. Our glasses were never empty and our waitress always made sure we were ready for another before bringing us new glasses (Some places just fill up the same glass). She gave us adequate time to look over the menu and asked if we had any questions.
I ordered the chicken and waffles, which were amazing! There was definitely a little kick to it from the cayenne syrup but nevertheless it was delicious. Presentation was equally as impressive. My boyfriend got the eggs benedict, which he enjoyed and finished the entire thing.
I would definitely recommend The Shady Lady and I will definitely be returning.

My experience at The Shady Lady was nothing but delightful! I came here for dinner with my mother who was visiting from out of state. The first great thing about this place, is that there is outdoor seating! Second star for allowing my naughty doggies to sit in their crate outside with us:) a place that allows dogs– is a A+ place in my book!
Furthermore, our server was just so nice and friendly. It always stands out when the server is super sweet, nice and gives good recommendations. I had the chicken basil dumplimgs– mmmmmm!!! My mom’s fish and chips were delish as well. I loved the fries. I will definitely be back for some more outdoor dining with the pups and all.

Came here on a random saturday for dinner. cute little restaurant
so we got 4 dishes here
1. fish and chips. not a big portion. sufficient. not bad
2. meatballs. 4 little meatballs served on top of some mashed potatoes… this looks like a snack
3. salmon. salmon served over spinach and mashed potatoes. the salmon was way over cooked. failed salmon
4. chicken and waffles. this dish is worth coming back for I would say.
2 fails, 1 ok, and 1 good.

I came for brunch and I can’t leave! I’m always here! The food is that good.
Also came for Cinco de Mayo and the bartender was A-​mazing. Only the best at Shady Lady.

The food here is AMAZING! The Shady Lady is probably one of the most underrated spots in Astoria for brunch. The portions are very, very generous and the food is superb. I ordered the 3 egg omelette with goat cheese and spinach and I could barely make a dent in it. Meals come with a side of salad or home-​fries, your choice of toast, and a free coffee. You can sit outside on nice days and they also have a nice drink menu as well. The hostesses weren’t the friendliest people, they actually had awful attitudes and scoffed when we tried to make small talk. I won’t let that take away from the great dining experience that I had here, I suspect the hostesses won’t be there forever. I will be going back!

Even thou it was a lil pricey, I didn’t mind because the food was delicious. As far as the staff they are the definition of great customer service. Very very nice.

After a night of drinking just come here for BRUNCH and enjoy some mimosas and The Back to Bed Mac & Cheese. I promise it’s everything you’ve ever wanted in your mouth.

We did the bottomless brunch for $ 25 and then an entrée. I had the Salmon eggs benedict, my boyfriend had the Turkey salad and mac n cheese. The food was good, nothing spectacular, definitely not worth the price.
We made sure to make the bottomless drinks worth it though. That was nice, they have a wide range of drinks that are a part of it (thankfully).
The ambiance is nice and cozy but boy it gets loud during brunch.
It was good to try and cross off the boozy brunch list, but I would rather try other places than return to this one.

Excellent brunch. We came on Sunday and we were very fortunate to get a table right away (for 2). After being seated, it was totally packed… timing is everything. I ordered the egg white frittata — healthy portion and comes with side of toast. It was great. I did not opt for the complementary alcoholic beverage and stuck with coffee. The service was very efficient and our waitress was great. It’s a nice venue but was very loud when we were there — we did struggle to speak and be heard. Other than that, enjoyed the experience. Reasonable pricing considering the total package. I peered over often to see what others got — and the waffles and pancakes look amazing… reason to head back and check them out.

Attention: If you are a minority or black don’t waste your time and money coming here. The staff will make It their business to make you uncomfortable so that you don’t return… So not worth a penny! This place should be called the Shady staff /​food.
ok so me and my friends decided to come here for my friends birthday 3÷13÷16 which was a disaster.
When we got there which was 4:18 pm we were greeted by a women who said that the kitchen was closed until 5:00 pm but the bar was open for happy hour cool. She didn’t smile at all it was the most unpleasant and unwelcoming «greeting «ever. We were starving but we waited anyways. They seated us and it was hardly any people there people were clearing out .
No one asked us what drinks we wanted in «happy hour». 4:45 pm rolled around I had to tap some one and ask if they would give us the drink menu unbelievable. This waiter a short lady with glasses and a pony tail kinda chubby looked so bothered that I even asked her for our drinks menu.
We ordered sangrias very very watered down!!! Gross. We put in our orders early 4:50 pm just to get a hurry on our food. Supposedly the kitchen opens at 5:00 pm but they weren’t ready until 5:30 pm. That’s a whole hour and a half of waiting !!! My thing is if you ask for something in a restaurant you should get it. If you tell us the kitchen will be open at 5:00 why is our order being put in at 5:30???
Finally she said they got started on our food and we ordered two chicken and waffles, one burger and Fries, Mac n cheese and thai wings mild!!!
Our food didn’t come until 6:35. Pm. Mind you there were about two or three other couples in there who were seated after us AND GOT THEIR FOOD BEFORE us !!! Every time we asked for help everyone was delusional in the sense of where our order was –_​-​! the onlyyyyy black group served last with disgusting attitudes !!!
The two orders of chicken and waffles was way to overly dressed with the sauce! Soaked in the waffles! The chicken seemed as though it was re heated and the sauce was tossed on. Be careful they ask if you want mild mild is very HOT. The fries were cold but still delicious I will give that!!! The Mac and cheese mediocre ! It took so long for the mediocre Mac and cheese to come my sister finished her wings and we all finished our food! Ha talk about a nightmare. When I asked our waiter where it was she didn’t know! Meanwhile I observed others groups all ordering Mac n cheese and was served it… Overall the food was OKAy but very cold considering we were served last!!! Our waiter short with glasses weird ponytail and trashy lipstick whispered «I’m running out «when her co worker asked when she was leaving. ugh So gross and tasteless The service was horrible.
Of course they rushed us out couldn’t wait to get is out ! One guy short black with a Mohawk kept coming to our table so much he dropped our food on the table and also spilled maple syrup from the waffles ALL OVER me and my sisters hair and shirt ! I pRay the owner sees this. I rated one star because they deserve every bit of that one star! The presentation was beautiful but the food wasn’t fresh nor delicious you can tell it was thrown together. For future reference treat your customers with a smile no matter the race that they are, serve quality food to avoid such disgusting reviews like this. we will never come here again. Shady is so accurate !
This was clearly a race issue and I’m deeply considering filing suit with the Civil rights division with the department of justice. They disappointed the wrong customers.

I had been wanting to come here for what seemed like aaaaaaages. I has heard many positive things, but just hadn’t had the opportunity. When one of my fiancé’s best friends was in town from Florida for a weekend he wanted to do brunch and we happened to have walked over to 30^th avenue. I had recommended Sugarfreak because THEY’RE SERIOUSLY AMAZING — unfortunately the wait time was like 40 minutes and our buddy had a plane to catch — so I suggested Shady Lady — their wait time was more like 10 minutes.
Upon getting seated we were given menus, given some specials, I asked for a round of water, yanno — the usual. Since it was Sunday brunch we went IN with food — decided not to do their bottomless brunch because I’m an adult and don’t engage in such shenanigans on a day before I need to get into work and be bright-​eyed and bushy-​tailed. On Saturday And Holidays «bottomless brunch» will cost you $ 15 on top of your meal and on Sundays it’ll clock in a $ 20 on top of your meal. Definitely not winning on their non-​casual brunch prices.
My finance ordered their Fried Chicken and waffles, his friend ordered their Corned Beef Hash And Eggs and I went with their «Back To Bed Mac N Cheese». Though I’d like to go back again some day to try their «Fried Chicken Gone Wild» which comes with boneless crispy chicken, bacon, cheddar, split biscuit and white sausage gravy. GOD, how I LOVE gravy — but yet, I LOVE Mac & Cheese so, so, so much more — so no regrets here.
The Fried Chicken & Waffles were drizzled with a Sriracha honey mustard, spicy maple syrup and featured a good amount of boneless crispy chicken. I did get to try some and it was delicious. The waffles were a tad dry but the spicy maple syrup definitely helped a lot. The watercress garnish was also a nice tough (see photos).
The Corned Beef Hash was a homemade hash on an english muffin with hollandaise sauce. I think his friend asked for his eggs to be more fluffy and omelette like without the hollandaise sauce. I did try the Corned Beef Hash and it was pretty good.
My «Back to Bed Mac & Cheese» was a cheddar and bacon mac & cheese with a sunny side up baked egg gently perched on top. I seasoned it with a little salt and pepper and off I went! It was good. Not great. Not amazing. But good. Before I ordered I had asked our waitress what her thoughts were about Shady Lady’s Mac & Cheese and she responded with «it’s the best mac & cheese in Astoria!» — my favorite non-​homemade mac IS actually in Astoria, but I knew Shady Lady was going to have some HUGE shoes to fill. Was it better than my place? NOPE. Not even close. Was it in my top 3 Mac dishes in Astoria? NOPE. Maybe in my top 5. But yeah — I digress, it wasn’t bad. Portion could have been better as I left hungry and no one else did.
Would I do brunch here again? Sure. I would personally order something else with their chicken in it because their chicken is pretty solid. 3.5 stars in reality — but I’m a’ roundin’ to 4 because service was great and this place overall radiates with positivity. Cool people and awesome ambience. Good for groups, one on one dates and they also have a pretty great happy hour with $ 5 cocktails everyday from 4pm-​8pm.

Let me start by saying the wait/​service staff is remarkable, my glass never empty and never dirty plates in my view, and always the best recommendations.
Our server suggested the pastrami quesadilla, now I know what your thinking. pastrami? Yes pastrami. it was delicious! I’m glad we took her advice.
Can’t forget the lobster tacos and their super tasty chicken and waffles!
I wish this place took reservations :(because the walk ins/​wait on the weekends can get pretty busy !

I was very disappointed with the service I received in my recent visit for brunch. I brought my friends from out of town here and they were not happy with the food and service. We ordered the French toast, chicken waffles, eggs Benedict and salmon burger.
The eggs Benedict and chicken waffles were good but the 1star is based on service.
Issues:
The French toast came out burnt so friend asked if it could be re-​made. Manager came over and said the French toast is toasted which is why it looks burnt and said she would take meal off check. Did not apologize. My friend ordered another French toast item off the menu in which was also not good.
When we received the bill, there was 2 orders still on the bill so my friend asked the manager why she didn’t take the original French toast she didn’t eat off the bill. Rather than take the item off the bill, she took off $ 5 and dropped the check back off and charged for the higher menu item.
If you are in the restaurant business as a manager, your customers should be happy with their food and its your job to ensure the food comes out right and guests are being checked on. You failed to do all of the above.
Also, the Waitress did not come back to check on us during the brunch.
Was it worth it to you to charge us for food that we were not happy with and also poor customer service skills as you’ve lost 5 customers for good!
There are many brunch restaurants on 30^th ave I will take my business to! The shady lady should be renamed to shady staff!

Cool! A popular tapas-​focused place in Astoria with a fun menu, welcoming waitstaff, and trendy (but still down to earth) vibe. We made a reservation for a Friday night which I would advise as it seems like The Shady Lady is often the place to be. And why wouldn’t it be with a kickass name like that?
Both the hostess and our server were exceptionally gracious and we immediately enjoyed the restaurant’s atmosphere. We were also pleased upon seeing the drink menu with $ 10 specialty cocktails (woohoo, outer boroughs!) The drinks were unfortunately decent but not great (not super well-​mixed and lacking a lot of tasty flavors) but that didn’t stop us from ordering another round, so…
Anyway, onto the main plates! We shared three, which our server kindly assured us would be enough food and he was right. The chicken basil dumplings were tasty and not overly doughy, the chicken santorini flatbread was fairly basic but good, and the gnocchi with prosciutto was rich without being too intense. All in all satisfying and made us look forward to returning to try different ones. The dessert menu looked just okay but we were happy and full enough from our dinner that bypassing dessert was not an issue. See ya soon, Shady Lady!
