It’s a go-to place for us in the neighborhood when we feel like Asian food. Great prices, lunch time is all time favorite with their specials! Service is decent, and they food is great which is most important! They have large menu, and everything we tried was good there. Miso soup for $ 1.50 — can’t go wrong, it’s delicious btw, wouldn’t recommend just for the price. Free green tea as well!

Sweet staff. New to the area, Matsu has quickly become my go to for sushi. Haven’t had the experience of dining in yet, but take out and delivery has been above and beyond.

Sweet staff. I order take out often. I never see many people dining in but I don’t understand why. The sushi is great. I love their peanut avocado roll and their mochi is delicious.

Great sushi place! I get their lunch combo at least once a week! Quick delivery and quick pick up service! Their sushi is fresh and always tastes amazing! Great customer service as well ! I usually just stick to the normal rolls like spicy tuna, spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, etc and they’ve all been great! Best sushi spot!

I’m about 20 minutes away by car and I don’t mind driving to Matsu for some great food. I’ve never had an issue and I literally go with my girlfriends once a week. The servers are so kind and always put a smile on our face! My food is always delicious which is either the katsu, hibachi or sushi. Always leave satisfied. A++++ for everything. And they’re clean! Food is always fresh as well. Matsu is my #1 go to sushi restaurant.

Found this place on Seamless and ordered their spicy maki combination(spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon rolls — $ 14) an eel avocado roll and a shrimp tempura roll. The other maki combinations also seem like a great deal. Overall a great value for the money and everything was super fresh! Delivery came pretty fast. I would order from here again.

This has been my go-to sushi place for the last several months. I’ve never had any complaints until tonight. I usually get salmon sashimi and a spicy tuna roll without a problem. Tonight I got it to go and brought it back to my place. I tried eating the sashimi and the middle of the salmon was FROZEN. There was ice in the middle, it was crunchy, and freezing cold. As I mentioned before… we usually LOVE this place, but I am definitely questioning their freshness and feel skeeved out.

Craving Japanese, Hulk convinced me to take a chance on Matsu. I placed the order, somewhat reluctantly. I ordered the Crazy Roll, a «Matsu Signature» roll, priced at $ 10. What I got was 5 rolls(as advertised), and it looked nice enough: tuna rolled around tiny slices of avocado and a thick paste, which I guessed was the yellowtail. The menu said the roll had crunch, but there was nothing crunchy about the roll. Also, I thought the rolls would have some rice in them, a. because it is sushi and not sashimi, and b. because they were $ 10. But no rice. Did they forget it? It was not on the menu that the ROLL had no rice, so I just assumed… Other than that, it was tasty fish. Hulk really liked his salmon, though when he asked if I wanted some, I took one look at the big, black/brown strip down the middle of each piece of salmon and refused. Call me a princess(I know some salmon just looks like that) but I really don’t like black and brown patches on my salmon. In fact, I was a bit worried at that sight, but thankfully, Hulk is OK. I will never order from there again. My first instincts were absolutely correct. But Hulk loved his salmon, so Matsu gets a second star.

Ordered shrimp tempura cone roll and fried ice cream. Both very delicious! My taste buds are completely satisfied, although the portion should be bigger for the price I pay for the cone roll(give two cones instead of one only).

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Astoria! Their sushi is always fresh. The price is affordable, and you definitely get a lot for your buck. We’ve become regulars here that the workers all know us. They’re extremely friendly! Plus Free Sake or House Wine! You can’t go wrong with that!

Complimentary wine is the best part. Decent food, bad music, and free booze. Why not? It’s fun!

Become a regular here!!! Matsu treats their regulars exceptionally well!!! Not only is the sushi great, you get free sake and wine when you dine in! No brainer… They remember what I order every time and the service is just phenomenal. Never been disappointed there and always leave happy. Probably eat there once or twice a week now.

I think this is probably the best sushi in this part of the neighborhood. Even though they are not Japanese(what sushi place is these days?) the quality and presentation are on point. They are the first people in this neighborhood that I can remember using the led lights when delivering a sushi boat. The service is good and they are very accommodating — especially if you have kids. We’ve always been treated fairly there and if we still lived on that side of the neighborhood we’d be eating there more often.

Just finished hibachi dinners from here a short while ago w the fiancé… Steak and chicken… Everyone’s favorite mmmm he claims his steak hibachi was really good however, He ate it in like ten minutes so I’ll just be taking his word for its goodness … I had the chicken hibachi and although very tasty I could have had larger pieces of chicken. These were tiny cubes that were over cooked and hard sadly … I’ve definitely had better from this place… Get the chicken fried rice mmmm. Maybe it was just a bad night for them… I’ll try it again tho I’m sure Place is intimate and clean… Probably wouldn’t come here with a party larger than6−8.

This place is pretty solid. And it’s the only place I have found in Astoria that makes their spicy scallop roll without frying their scallop. The chef was very proud of this. He said he doesn’t get the cheap scallop, but ones from Hokkaido that he can serve raw and still be on point. The rolls are pretty standard and the fish are all good. But I wouldn’t say this is ‘out-there-WOW’. It’s a pretty standard Chinese owned sushi joint with decent service. The lunch specials are good value. I would come back just for the Spicy Scallop Handroll!

I order takeout here through seamless quite frequently. I also ate here once in person with friends. Exceptional service both in person and taking out. They always get the order right and makes sure the customer is happy. Love their sushi as well, super fresh! Their hibachis aren’t bad either.

This place was good. Not excellent, yet not terrible. I ordered the spicy tuna rolls, shrimp gyozas, and a miso soup. The sushi seemed if the meat was frozen, which isn’t terrible for sushi although you can tell the difference from a high end place. The gyozas were excellent, cooked properly and prepared so flavorful, wasn’t a big fan of the sauce they gave though. Miso soup is really hard to fuq up, but as good as usual. So the results, if your feeling sushi and want a affordable stuff, come here. If your looking for the best sushi in your life, thus won’t be the place to serve. Will eat here again, cheap good sushi!

I usually go to gowasabi, however figured id try something different… the free wine was enticing and surprisingly delicious. I ordered shrimp shumai and spicy tuna roll(with brown rice)… figured I would test out the basics– the shumai was delicious however the spicy tuna was nothing to brag about. The service however was impressive and when I ordered something for my friend to go, it was very fast. Overall 4⁄5 stars, however im open to trying this place again to try a specialty roll.

Great affordable neighborhood spot. Whenever we are in the mood for Japanese food or Sushi in Astoria, this is our destination of choice. Friendly service, very reasonable prices, and wide selection. It’s occasionally a little slow, but it’s all very well made so I don’t mind waiting.
