Understated elegance in the heart of downtown Atascadero. Our 52 rooms and suites are aptly appointed with surprising attention to detail from handcrafted ironwork to meticulous moldings– each room provides a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.

There are a number of shops and restaurants within walking distance, plus we are centrally located within the county and are roughly 15 minutes from all of the major points of interest– from Paso Robles Wine Country, to the Rock at Morro Bay to the infamous Farmers Market in San Luis Obispo.

The hotel also boasts a number of meeting and event spaces that are ideal for conferences, weddings, birthday parties and board meetings.

Best Hotel San Luis Obispo to Paso. We have rentals in Atascadero and we stay at the Carlton when we are checking on them. Super clean hotel, beautiful French revival style. This is not your average Hotel.

This Hotel is a story in and of itself. Once a great, historic, classic hotel this hotel was refurbished 10 years ago and was a labor of love for the owner. The facility is well done and very classy. The rooms are tastefully decorated and finished in a fashion that indicates taste and posh comfort. The hotel is currently missing a restaurant and bar that would complete the experience. Sadly, this was refurbished at the peak of the building boom and the cost was exorbitant. The maintenance is a little behind and the occupancy is down, which translates to great news for the traveler.

The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel and rooms were clean and classy. The bed was comfortable, and the hot tub bath made a relaxing touch after a long journy on the road. Easy parking, and Free breakfast till 11am. Its located right off the 101 offramp but far enough from the road as to be quiet! Would stay here again, especially because of the quality at a low rate!

Such a beautiful and quaint hotel! The rooms are gorgeous and the bed was very comfortable! The staff couldn’t have been any nicer or more accommodating — they offered very personalized service and made us feel VIP. Highly recommend — we will definitely be back!

The rooms were very spacious. Decorated in french provincial style. The bathrooms have spa tubs. Gives free continental breakfast 7 – 11 AM. Great location close to downtown and 20 min to Pismo Beach. Street parking available also a small lot is allocated to customers across the street.

Marble, granite, alabaster, polished brass, crown moldings, these rooms would be hundreds of dollars more in Rome or London. No cuisine nearby, but a wonderful place to sleep and lounge around the fireplace. World class in a small town. Great home base for winery hopping.

What a find. This hotel was more comfortable than our own home and the staff were kind and helpful. Beautiful remodeled bathrooms with marble and an awesome shower and jet tub. Given it was the same price as the bloody Hampton Inn or Courtyard by Marriot, you can’t go wrong. Plus, it’s next door to Fig and that was a delicious find.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Carlton Hotel. We were in the area for only one night to do some apartment/​house hunting. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in suggesting places to visit. The rooms are comfortable and cozy with high end bedding, robes, and towels. The complimentary breakfast was simple yet nicely presented with lots of options. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting the area.
The only drawback was that the parking for the hotel was across the street in a small parking lot.

Worst Hotel Ever. Our daughter is a student at CalPoly, we stayed here (all the 3 stars hotel in San Luis Obispo were booked due to an event).
You must avoid this hotel at all cost. it start with the parking. The tiny parking lot they have is little bit far from the hotel and can barely take 20 cars!
Second, it at an intersection. you will hear the cars all night.
The Worst is a bar/​club is close to the hotel and the noise/​music ruined our night.
This hotel is a nightmare.

My husband took me here last weekend for my birthday and we had an amazing time. This hotel is clean, elegant, affordable, classy, and dog-​friendly. The customer service was awesome and the bed was SO amazing. They had free donuts in the lobby. I love the amenities in the rooms as well: a clean bathtub, a mini fridge, and a keurig coffee maker. I am definitely looking forward to staying here in the future. Don’t waste your money elsewhere in Atascadero. Just go to the Carlton.

From the time we walked in the door to the time we left, we felt welcomed and spoiled here. The lobby is gorgeous, the rooms are airy, comfortable and clean. The staff (Travis) was very helpful and incredibly friendly. I found the hotel just by chance and the price was reasonable.
The only cons were that it was a bit loud with our window open at night. The bar across the street had a live band and a large crowd that partied until 2:00 a.m. Also, the restaurant is not open, so that was unfortunate that we had to leave the area to dine.
All in all, it was a lovely stay and we’ll definitely be back!

Avoid this hotel at all costs. Their staff lied to me about the total amount per night, then over charged my credit card. The manger, Deena, was rude and unhelpful. She refused to even look into the situation denying that her staff told me what the appropriate fees were. I’d recommend staying elsewhere if you are in the area– not worth it if there are any billing issues. The hotel is close to the freeway and it is also very loud. The restaurant is closed as well.

First you have to appreicate this is an OLD Atascadero Hotel from the Early 1900’s. That was restored inside and out. The foyer, is that of a 5 star San Francisco Hotel. The wood and marble used, the best. The hotel was restored by the Wyrick family. The rooms, this is the important part, are nothing short of 5 star beds, sheets and towels. The pillows are perfect, the towels are plush. I have recommended to people from San Diego and LA. They all have stayed many times since. Its a great stop over to San Fran or Hearst Castle! Wine tasting makes it a perfect spot for the central coast wine vineyards too. Most nightly rates are $ 120 to $ 130 range. Other compare at $ 250+

What a fabulous hotel! My husband and I are on our honeymoon and found this hotel last minute. Once we arrived, we knew we had to stay two night instead of one. The room was gorgeous and for such a good price. We had a room that opened up to a courtyard. Our first night we sat out there with a bottle of wine and some cheese :) Romantic, cozy and quiet.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I was very excited to use the jetted tub. However, the jets didn’t work and one actually fell off, which totally grossed me out. However, I did tell the front desk and they cleaned it out very well. I never did try it again to find out if it worked.
However, all in all we absolutely loved the hotel and will be going back for sure.

First Class Hotel with European feather bed and Marble — Granite construction. The rooms are impeccable with quite a bit of investment — in my book a 5 star Hotel priced for 3 stars.
Fun Boutique style and historic building — with great potential if a Bar and Restaurant move into their bottom floor wonderful areas. Locally are two wine tasting bars and a wonderful restaurant, Fig. Atascadero City must support these wonderful investments — the key to building a successful downtown.

In all my years, this is the first time it has happened to me. A place so special, a place so small, that I am actually afraid of it getting ruined by too many people finding out about it.
Motel 6/​Holiday. Inn prices, if you know to get off the freeway in Atascadero, awaits the Carlton. Carlton is a beautiful brick building 3 stories high, built around a interior Courtyard. My room on the second story open directly on to set courtyard with the magnificent fountain, and open air courtyard set with tables.
Staff is wonderful. The block has empty stores on it but the entire downtown area is expanding and the business there are worthwhile.
The rooms have very nice beds, exceptional wall in shower, jettedtubs, and water closet with a phone!
My personal preference is to get an interior room, facing the courtyard, but traffic noise does die off early.
Great value, great service and good jumping off spot to all things Central Coast.
One caveat, some rooms have a blue carpet which I personally don’t enjoy. But of course, that service thing, I ask.

Forget all those chain motels and stay here.
Everything about this place is first rate. From the lobby to the room accommodations everything is done with style and taste. (Check the pictures)
With an eye to helping you rest the beds are comfortable, windows are double paned glass, the walls are thick, and the air conditioning is whisper quiet.
Be aware that they do add a couple of extra «fees» to the base rate (don’t know why they do that), their rate is still comparable to an average chain and the hotel is much nicer.

LOVE this hotel.
huge rooms, SUPER comfy beds with fabulous linens (they make the bed with a nice sheet on top of the comforter so i loved that i didn’t have to «freak out» about sitting on the bed!) and the jaccuzzi tub is wonderful! (i usually won’t take a tubbie in hotels but this is the exception.)
cute courtyard/​patio outside our room was a great place to relax and imbibe.
unfortuantely the restaurant, and now bakery, have closed but plenty of restaurants within easy & enjoyable walking distance.
my only negative… they allow gross smoking on the patio/​balconies.
the awful stench of cigarettes ruined a peaceful evening outside so we had to go in and close our patio doors.

I REALLY liked this hotel. The service was great, the space was very clean and well decorated as well.
What I really loved about it was the beds though. Holy mama, the pillows were so comfy and the blankets were so fluffy. We face planted on them right away and ended up asking for extra pillows and I was in super fluffy heaven for 3 nights. If you will be anywhere around the area make a point of staying here, my favorite place to stay in the SLO area so far. :)
