Room smelt like wet dog. The pool had no lights and was occupied by drunk adults. The area is shady especially at night. Hopefully you don’t have to go out for anything. The staff were friendly.

Clean and reasonably well equipped. Coffee in room and decent free breakfast in the lobby. Very comfortable bed.
But…paper-thin walls. The jackwagons heading to breakfast at 6am seemed like they were shouting in the hall and slamming every door. (What? Are you the only people on earth?)
Nice hotel but not worth $ 150/​night (Sep 2015).

Over the past few months, I’ve stayed here a couple of times and revised my initial review to 5-​stars. This is one of the nicest Holiday Inn Express locations — from some of the other reviews, I’d say this is due to the efforts of the franchise owner. Fairly new (about 5 years old), well-​appointed, moderately upscale rooms with nice finishes. Bed was comfortable and supportive. Air conditioner worked well and was reasonably quiet. Free WiFi was fairly fast (although you have to re-​log-​in every day and every time you shut off your device). My room and all the common areas were very clean and well maintained. On my last visit, my room was not made up until 4:00pm and the housekeeper walked in without knocking — but this might have been an anomaly.
I didn’t try the complementary beer and wine tasting, but a nice perk if you can take advantage of it. Breakfast is very typical of Holiday Inn Express — not great, but adequate with decent selection and entrees that change daily. I’d prefer that they offer real silverware and plates as I’ve experienced at other HI Express. The exercise room is pretty limited, but open extended hours. The computers in the Business Center actually work and have current software — you’d be surprised at how rare this is.
The hotel directly overlooks US101 — very easy access. However, if you get an eastern facing room, you have to sleep with the window closed — the freeway noise is just too much. The hotel itself is very quiet, but Atascadero is so quiet that any noise is really accentuated.
Note on reading the reviews: most of the negative reviews seem to focus on the corporate reservation system. Beware if you’re making online reservations — this is a common complaint with Holiday Inn, but not the fault of the property owner, who seems to go out of his way to remedy problems. Guest services staff is some of the best I’ve ever experienced — pleasant, professional and helpful. Really a great experience.

The accommodations are actually good. Breakfast was O.K. We had stayed there a couple of years ago and liked it. BUT., Beware… They will take advantage of you. We booked three rooms online. — via their own website mind you. Needed to cancel a room and were told we could not. That we had booked third party and they had no control over the payment. Also, from another employee we told that we had received some special deal and could not be refunded. They offered to make the room available for re-​sale, which we agreed to. Of course, when we arrived they had not sold the room and did not expect to sell out that evening, yet they refused to check that room to us and give us the keys even though we had pre-​paid in full!!! We insisted and and after some struggle were given the key! We will not be patronizing this Holiday Inn again and would not recommend this to anyone whether or not this is legitimate practice!

Hands down this is the nicest, cleanest Holiday Inn Express Hotel I have ever been in. It was so clean! Kudos to the hotel cleaners and staff for that!
I found this hotel to be very accommodating. It had everything I needed in just the right place I needed. Example: I was a bit tiffed that I forgot my makeup remover, but what do they have in the bathroom? Makeup remover! I was very surprised.
The beds were soft mattresses and I loved that on the pillow sheets in stitch, it was marked whether the pillow was ‘medium’ or ‘soft’. We unfortunately didn’t get a room with the best view, but it’s Atascadero. You’re not promised great views for a reason.
I only have 2 complaints, but these complaints won’t keep me from coming back to this hotel or recommending it to my friends: 1. The fan didn’t work at all throughout the night. We turned the fan on at roughly 10pm and it didn’t actually start working until 1:30am and then it turned off at 2am. I know this because I woke up in my own sweat because we were basically sleeping in an 80 degree room. It was so muggy in our room in the morning that I couldn’t even put on makeup because I was sweating so much. 2. My friend had commented that the drains in the shower weren’t properly draining. We let front desk and they immediately took care of.
The continental breakfast was a bit, lackluster but I guess, well, it’s a free breakfast at a chain hotel. I don’t know what I was expecting. When we came in it was a bit bare-​bones in parts of the food section, but not enough that we weren’t happy with our food selections.
The front desk was lovely, accommodating, friendly and quick. They made a great first impression and continued until after we left.

Between 3 and 4 stars but simply because the maid never came by to clean our room, well correction she did come by but At 6pm when my husband and I were done for the day after wine tasting all morning. Never been to a hotel that didn’t have our bed made by at least 1pm. Doesn’t make sense.
Needless to say it kind of messed with my impression of the hotel.
Otherwise this is a great hotel! I loved their pillows! And the breakfast was better than at other places. Very clean and classy place (two words I never thought I would use to describe the holiday inn)
Definitely stay here if you are in the Paso area.

This is hands down the nicest Holiday Inn I’ve stayed in. I’ve stayed in 5 star hotels that didn’t have rooms as nice and clean as these. Not sure if its because this hotel is new or just really well maintained.
Customer service is amazing as usual with all Holiday Inns. They served hot apple cider in the lobby and breakfast was up to par.
Only downside is the floors making creaking sound, and the location is up in the higher elevation where its colder.
Great value for the price though and I highly recommend for budget lodging!

Very nice hotel. Excellent Customer service, hospitality and cleanliness.
A huge bonus is the indoor pool, jacuzzi and fitness center. Very high quality mattresses made for restful sleep, especially the king suite with the bed so high off the floor it’s pure heaven when you jump in.
After working in the area for two weeks, I would recommend this property for anyone traveling to the Paso Robles Area. It will definitely be our first choice.
The men folk loved the local Beer, Wine, Bubbly and Snacks provided evenings during the week. Didn’t partake in the breakfast buffet, but other guests seem to line up for it.

Just checked out at this hotel and we are absolutely impressed with our overnight stay– quite room, comfy bed, flat screen tv, bathroom clean, sufficient towels and toiletries. Continental breakfast provided was sufficient and fresh. The lady attendant was very accommodating. Front desk guy was kind, friendly, and courteous. The lobby was small but very inviting. Furnitures were arranged beautifully. Average size pool and hot tub were great features. They have decent gym. Overall, it was great to stay in this hotel. Location was reasonable to where we were going. Price was worth it. We were informed that the hotel is 6 ½ yr-​old. Keep it up!

Five star hotel without the bellhops!
I know you won’t believe it when I say that I have stayed in hotels costing three times as much that were not as clean or nice as this Holiday Inn Express!
I almost don’t want to tell everyone how incredible this hotel is because once the secret is out, I won’t ever be able to get a room here again.
Sure this sounds like a lot of baloney, but it’s not.
For me and my family, there is no other place to stay when we are in Atascadero.

I never was able to stay at this place.
There were a problem with the credit card and they decided to cancel the reservation, I missed their call on the day of arrival and by the time I called back at 11:00 AM they have sold the room. This was a busy weekend and most of the places in the area were fully booked and cased us quite a lot of aggravation.

Okay… the staff was as helpful as they could’ve been. After a technical web error they helped us out best they could with a last minute room.

— A parking lot away from a Jack in the Box! (which serves perfectly for drunken post-​wedding cravings)

Had a wonderful experience at the Holiday Inn Express.
My group was a party of 5, and we were trying to figure the most affordable way to «zip and sip» — that is, zip line and wine taste at ancient peaks. While they have a hotel package for this, it only covers the zip lining and wine tasting costs for 2 people. So NATHAN at the front desk helped me over the phone and we worked out that it would be best to purchase our zip lining separately and book our hotel by itself. After debating whether or not we could get a roll away bed (because they come on a first come first serve basis and cannot be reserved), Nathan helped us find a deal on a double queen suite with a sofa bed.
The room was wonderful! very clean, quiet, and came with enough pillows and blankets for the one on the sofa bed.
Breakfast in the morning was complimentary, and came with fresh pancakes, sausage, eggs omelettes (these had some sort of odd cheese inside them), cinnamon buns, toast, and fresh fruit.
Would stay here again!

Loved our stay here! The girl who checked us in (evening of 11⁄24) and out (morning of 11⁄25) of rm. 329 was such a sweetheart and the rooms were beautiful. Everything seems to be new and updated, which isn’t so important to me but was definitely nice to experience.
The beds were super comfy and the lobby is gorgeous. Highly recommend this HIE location.
