Breadwinner Cafe & Bakery

Just stopped in for lunch and this place is packed full but there is tons of free parking out front. This is definitely the lunch hot spot for Sandy Springs! The food is delicious and healthy and it’s all fresh! I absolutely love the fact that people wanna get in and out very fast paced service.

I love this place! You can get a half sandwich, soup, and salad for only $ 10.99! I love the tuna sandwich, turkey chili and quinoa salad! Everything I have tried here has always been amazing!

The spot is more of a sandwich shop than a coffee shop. But it is a great place for soup, sandwiches, and salads. But, if before or after lunch, great place to stop for a small bite and to connect to their free internet.

As a fan of the lunch special, I love the ability to pick and choose and build my lunch of a large menu of options. The food is delicious, the salads and soups sometimes rotate, and none are bad.
Now, the grilled pimento cheese, I can’t get it hot enough. even if I stuff it in my face first, its never hot enough for the cheese to be properly melty and not cold in the middle. Now the soup can scald your tongue off. But the sandwich, not so much. Really if thats my only complaint. Because I’m not a pimento cheese aficionado I just assume it should be like a grilled cheese.

Super tasty! The ingredients are fresh and seasonal. Great tomato soup and sandwiches. Their grilled chicken is amazing! I go around 12:30 and the shop is always packed but is worth the wait. My only complaint is that they have run out of the pesto chicken sandwich the last too times.

I have been eating lunch here 4 to 6 times per month consistently for the last two years. It is one my favorite paces. The food quality is always top notch. I am always satisfied after eating but never bloated. That’s the case with fresh food.
The Flavor is awesome and it’s always consistent. They never miss– I mean never. Great value.

Tomoto Bisque or turkey chili are my go to soups and the tuna sandwich or grilled chicken breast are my staples. Try the pimento cheese-​just wow. And The peanut butter cookies are dangerous.
Tip. Get there early to avoid the crowd at lunch, but stick around if the line is long bc it moves fast.

Went back to breadwinner and had the tomato basil soup, orzo again (couldn’t help it, it was so good) and the pimento cheese sandwich. All was wonderful!!! Love this place. Will keep coming back. :)

Out of the 3 items I had here… only 1 item really pleased me. Well, I guess I got 4 items and only 2 items were actually good. But the last item I got was a cookie (it’s hard to mess up cookies).
Overall, a 3.5. The past few years, I’ve realized that I am not a sandwich person, ha. Not sure why… I was hoping Breadwinner would change my mind.
Parking is great here. Breadwinner is in a strip that’s full of other shops, but parking spots are plentiful. Nothing to worry about! Pretty sure you’ll only have to look maybe 30 seconds before you find a spot.
Space — Kind of small. But not a tiny shop. Just that you may have to wait a few mins if it’s a full house. they do have several 2 – 4 man tables as well as a long table. But. they can only seat so many without running into a full house situation.
Service — You’ll have to get in line and the order. A slow method.
Food:
I really loved their GF Brunswick Stew. It was delicious. It also felt light, which I liked. I hate when stew is so heavy and after you eat it, you kind of want to hurl. I would come back for this. Just added some some hot sauce to make it a little spicier.
Caesar Salad — The lettuce wasn’t fresh and tasted okay. Maybe because the lettuce wasn’t dark lettuce I kind of didn’t like it… Eh. Just wasn’t what I preferred
Chicken Parm Sandwich — I got the wrong sandwich. Overall taste was meh. Was bland. I honestly think I ordered the wrong thing. Not sure how to explain the the taste, it just wasn’t what I hoped for.
Cookie was great! And huge. Nice dessert to go.

I think I made have ordered badly. Everything here looked so good. Resisting the temptation to get the brisket sandwich on special, I chose the chicken salad sandwich instead. I like chicken salad. Breadwinner’s version is OK but a little sparse and was dressed with measly scraps of wilted lettuce. Should have gone for the brisket.
Compounding the error, as a side I chose the pasta salad, which was OK but a bit vinegary. One of my Unilocaler dining companions let me try her orzo salad — much better.
The tomato basil soup, however, was top notch.
Pasta salad — not real great, a little too vinegary.
Long, slow line to order, but once you do, you’ll find yourself enjoying a meal in a very nice space.
Music was a bit loud at first so I had trouble hearing the conversation at the table. They turned it down after a while. A place like this probably should stick to mellow background music.

Yeah. So. I never knew this place was here until a coworker suggested it for lunch and well. I just may owe her an ongoing thank you. This place was crowded but that’s ok, the line moved and flowed and you didn’t even notice you were actually in a line. I got the soup, sandwich, & salad combo. The tomatoe basil bisque — meh. It was ok, but nothing to write a review over. The black bean burger — two thumbs way up. Totally worth writing a review over. Can’t get it out of my mind. The quinoa salad — great. Highly recommend. Perfect combination of flavors. Docked 1 star just because finding a seat/​table is a tad nightmarish. But. With that said. I will be back. And I hope the black bean burger is on the menu.

This place is fine. They have a lunch combo that give you plenty of food for 10 bucks. You pick 3 things and the portions are respectable. The food is A-​OK. I find their sandwiches to be good but quite small. Their salads are varied and the recipes are good. It’s a worthwhile place to visit.

Healthy, fresh, tasty! Great sandwiches, soups, salads, sweets. $ 10 gets you a lot of food!

Can’t believe I’ve just discovered this cute lunch spot so close to work. My sister and I both had the lunch special for $ 10.99 (half sandwich/​soup/​salad).
We ordered:
Tilapia Wrap (special of the day)/andouille chicken gumbo/​kale salad
California Turkey Wrap/​tomato soup/​black rice
Both wraps were just ok… mostly because they are pre-​made. I think I’ll try a panini next time.
Soups were excellent! Especially the tomato soup– so flavorful and creamy. I also liked the fact that they weren’t loaded with salt and Gluten Free.
Salads were also delicious. We both enjoyed the kale salad over the black rice salad.
Service is fast (even during their lunch rush) and they give you big portions.
Overall, a decent spot for lunch that serves fresh and healthy options.

Very cozy little place. Their lunch special is much better than expected. You get plenty of food that is very fresh, as well tasty. We tried the tuna melt as well as the chicken salad sandwich, both of which were very good. You also get to choose between two sides, or a cup of soup. Unlike other places, the portions for their sides here are large. Can’t complain about a thing! Will definitely be returning.

No — I do not like their Soup at all. I’ve gotten their soup to go on 2 different occasions — trying 2 different soups each time. What a waste of money. The Turkey Chili was pureed so much that it was actually a Paste ! The Chicken Noodle was flavorless like they had run low and poured a bunch of water in the pot to get the level up. Eww.
Trying to give them another chance, I bought soup a second time. I should have learned my lesson the first time.
On principal, I actually made a trip across town to return the soup. When I told the girl behind the counter that I was returning the soup, she said «Oh, you’re the lady that called and said you weren’t happy.» No, I hadn’t called… that must have been a different dissatisfied customer !

Heard great things about this place and was finally able to make it over. I’ve never had such a hard time picking out what I wanted to eat there were so many good options for sandwiches, soups, and salads. I settled on the Broccoli Salad and the Chicken Pesto Panini. They were both fantastic and very fresh. I only wish this place was open more as the hours make it tough to get over there sometimes.

I am a fan. Although I’ve yet to try their baked goods (bikinis suck), their lunch offerings are what keeps me coming back. $ 10, pick three: sandwiches, soups, salads. Heaping portions. Ready immediately. No BS. All the food I’ve tried has been a hit. This places gets packed out at lunch (needs own parking garage). Don’t fret if theres a line… it moves quickly and so does seating. Have a giant cookie for me! My boyfriend says they’re game changers (crying inside).

This is a solid 3.5 stars. Breadwinner Café has a fantastic daily selection of yummy soups, salads and sandwiches. They do a lot of business at lunch time and it gets crazy busy. It seems to be a very popular lunch spot in this crowded shopping center.
You can pick 3 items for $ 10.99. I have tried to get just two items in the past (all I wanted) and it still worked out to $ 9 and some change after tax. You’re almost forced to get the 3^rd to feel better about what you’re paying. Given that, I find their pricing to be a bit too high for 1 – 2 items. At lunch. Food is good but not that great. We’re still talking soups, salads and sandwiches here. But, clearly, it’s working for them. The soccer moms and pilates queens are holding this place down!
I do enjoy their kale salad, tuna sammich and quite a few of their soups. Sweet breads are decent.
I just think you’ll find a better bang for your buck elsewhere in the area.

I stepped into Breadwinner for lunch and the experience was just about what I expected: fresh salads, made-​from-​scratch soups, and sandwiches. Here’s what I had: two ½ salads, and 1 cup of soup.
Kale Salad: This was pretty much what I expected. Fresh kale, light citrusy-​vinegary dressing. This salad was dressed perfectly so it wasn’t drowning in dressing.
Beet and Blue Salad: Field greens dressed with sliced beets (they’re canned) and blue cheese. I actually liked this salad more than the kale salad. Tastes fresh, lots of flavor. I would definitely get this again.
Chicken and Sausage Gumbo: There’s the option to add rice which I like. It’s not a lot, but a good amount. The gumbo had a smoky flavor, maybe a little too strong for me. This was good on a cold day.
Chocolate Brownie: This is a big brownie and I can’t believe I ate the whole thing that afternoon. It’s a big, substantial chunk for $ 3. It’s got chocolate chips in it which makes it very chocolatey. Rather than cakey, I’d say this is more fudgey.
The $ 10 lunch special is really more like $ 11 (10.99 round up). The portions seem fair (maybe it’s because I had the small salads), but the price point is a little high. However, great quality of ingredients, better than any other chain café/​bakery like Panera or Atlanta Bread Company.
I don’t really crave sandwiches or soups/​salads often, so I’m not sure if I’d come back soon, but they do have pretty good baked goods. The line’s a bit long and I didn’t even want to TRY sitting there to eat because of the limited space. Plan to sit elbow to elbow at the long tables during rush hour. It’s hard for me to justify spending more than $ 10 for lunch.

This is the best sandwich place in Sandy Springs hands down. This is evidenced by the lines that are always forming around lunch time daily. Don’t be turned away by the seemingly daunting line, it moves very fast and you should be able to find a seat, no problem. Great selection of soups, sandwiches, and salads that changes daily. The owner takes great pride in his restaurant and can be found working there daily. Staff is great and seems to have a low turnover.
Way Way Way better than Souper Jenny (which is similar) in the Buckhead area.

Lunch is the one meal that can easily get boring, especially you don’t have many options. This is especially the case if you ever find yourself working in the outskirts of Atlanta for 6 weeks, which describes the lovely situation that I’m currently in.
But if you’re anything like me, you’re likely to find Breadwinner to be a nice change of pace to break up the monotony of your more typical lunch options in the area.
While my first time was solid, my second time coming, I may have found the light. On this occasion I chose to «mix and match» the tomato basil soup, caesar salad and the chicken salad sandwich. All three were truly amazing, the soup being particularly noteworthy, especially given the cold day. I’d highly recommend giving it a try.
Also, be sure to try a cookie, or another one of the bakery items they make in house. Delicious.
To top it all off, the staff that works here is extremely friendly. It’s always nice to find a restaurant that is run by people who are clearly genuine, and that’s most certainly the case at Breadwinner. This is a good find.

Smallish shopping center parking lot gets slammed for the lunch rush, so consider car pooling. Or, like the firemen from down the block, walk. Always a good sign when firemen or cops are waiting in line at a joint.
Place does a simple lunch combo — salad, soup, half-​sammich (or 2 salads, a soup, etc.) — for $ 10. When you consider that most everything is made on site (including the breads), that is a great deal. And explains why the place gets covered up at noon on weekdays.
All the vegan soup/​salad options make it popular with that demo — but be aware that sammich options might be limited to a caprese (Fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil purée, and Roma tomatoes on a Parmesan cibatta bread) or a pimento cheese. The latter in particular is well-​praised, but it would be nice to have, say, a grilled portabello option from time to time too.
As for carnivore sammiches, both the NY corned beef on rye and the tuna salad (Chunk light albacore tuna with celery, hard-​boiled egg, Roma tomatoes, a touch of mayo, and Muenster cheese on multigrain bread) are very nicely turned out, Grade A sammiches. The corned beef demands toasting while you can go either way with the tuna, the egg and muenster providing a a big, rich backbone that is not all goopy mayo.
Summer soups mean gazpacho, right? And here we had not one, but two forms — red and green. The latter was made from tomatillos, green peppers, and a ton of cukes. Both had some jalapeño for some heat, but not too much. Nice and refreshing and filling, although I might’ve wanted just a little extra virgin olive oil drizzled on to really kick it off.
Oh, yeah. Salads. The Beet & Blue (Mixed greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, julienned beets, crumbled blue cheese, and raspberry vinaigrette) was my fave, but the Kale (Raw kale, cabbage, pumpkin seeds, carrots, craisins, and red onion tossed in a lemon yogurt dressing) is different and tremendously filling. Also the Black Rice Salad is sorta a starchy, but not creamy salad option that you won’t find too many places.
Biggest down side? Unless your job involves hanging off the back of a speeding truck and running into burning buildings, there is a good chance you will go back to work and sleep off your lunch under your desk, George Costanza-​style.

I had a great experience! A friend and I split the 10.99 lunch special… soup, salad, and ½ sandwich. Rather than having to eat off the same plate, they actually plated everything in half for us! It was the perfect amount if food for both of us and we got drinks and a giant delicious chocolate chip cookie to split. Didn’t break the bank one bit.
We had the caprese sandwich, which was great when toasted. Tomato bisque was better than papena or fresh to order. We also had the quinoa salad which had cherry tomatoes and feta cheese… perfect lunch.
I had the lemonade which I think was house made. I loved it!

I love soup and salad for lunch — especially when I am crazy busy and have no time to eat. After many years and hearing how great Breadwinner is, and it being 2 miles from my house, I finally ventured in to grab some lunch to bring home. I walked in and was overwhelmed with the options — all the sandwiches and salads were pre-​made, so it allowed for quick ordering and serving — no wait.
They have posted a $ 10 lunch special. ½ sandwich, salad and soup (or ½ sandwich 2 salads, or 3 salads, or…) Great deal and it meant I could pick a couple of things to try. I opted for the Cuban — I really wanted a warm sandwich, so the woman popped it onto the panini press for me while she dished up my pint of Tomato Bisque (both gluten free and vegetarian, apparently) and I walked down the line to pick out a salad. There were a few options and I saw the orzo and just went with it. It looked good enough and I knew I needed to decide or I might be there all day.
They certainly give you healthy portions — especially for the $ 10 price tag. It was a ton of orzo — of which I only ate half. I will say that the sandwich I chose was on the smaller side, but it was certainly tasty. Not a traditional cuban really, but delicious nonetheless. The orzo was a bit bland. It needed a hint of salt since it was a pasta dish, but it wasn’t terrible. But odds are I won’t order it again since it was empty carbs considering it’s lack of flavor and nothing really going on. However, the winner of the day was the soup! I could have eaten a quart of it and would not have been ashamed. Full of tomato flavor and how that had no dairy — I seriously question. Rich and creamy, so packed with yum and not acidic. I’ll go back just for that.
Glad to know this is so close and I will be going back again and again. Not sure why it has taken me so long to visit this fabulous neighborhood gem.
