7 Sushi Bar is the sushi joint with the conveyor belt of sushi(if you sit at the bar). I went on a Friday night… and nobody was in the establishment. I was kinda surprised and alarmed by this. It has a great Midtown location. The atmosphere is pretty cool. The sushi tasted fresh and delicious. I think the conveyor belt sushi buffet thing runs during lunch. I’m guessing it is busier during lunch time. The staff is very friendly and they recommend some great rolls and sashimi. We sat at the bar and the sushi chefs gave us a lot of samples to try. We also received free dessert… sometimes it pays to be the only table!

You know those DSL turtles from Comcast? They move faster than these people! As my fellow sushi-loving friends have said, this place was OK if you’re in the area and want sushi. And have the time to wait. It looks exactly the same as when Fune was there minus sushi on the conveyor belt — which is a good thing cause at the rate things came out, the sushi might have been cooked by the candles on the belt. Dinner was started off with a cup of on-fire green tea — I seriously had to use the hand towel just to hold it. Luckily, the tepid miso soup cooled my mouth down. The shrimp & vegetable tempura was. .. . there with a bland dipping sauce. The octopus appetizer had nice sized slices with no vinegar whatsoever on it or the cucumber salad underneath it. The sushi/sashimi combo was good — sashimi was yummy, sliced thicker than most places. But the sushi was meh cause it was not cut as well as the sashimi and the rice was not sushi rice. Maybe the chefs need to play Nintendo Wii’s Cooking Mama. They’ll learn the ingredients that go into sushi rice as well as how to make it? I hear lots of people have learned how to cook from that game. O yea. .. no alcohol yet, but you can bring your own from home or Mac’s.

As Kit F. Would say«7 sushi, must be because we had to wait 7 hours for it,» seriously it felt like we waited for hours for sushi/sashimi. When we came in, the restaurant looked pretty much empty except for like 2 other tables dining. The décor is interesting, very white, with a colored pink lights for the ceiling, and a projection of fish swimming. We asked to be seated at the bar, assuming there would be a conveyor belt full of sushi for the pickings, no luck, the belt had candles rotating around it, no sushi, which is actually wise of the owners since the place was so empty. We placed our orders, Sean M. and I shared the Sashimi Regular, while Kit F. and Pam L. shared what looked like the sashimi/Sushi Combo. We waited and we waited. and finally after 30 minutes plus, the sashimi platter came out. The sashimi tasted good, with the cuts just perfect portions. There were cuts of 3 each, of Salmon, Red Tuna, White Tuna, 1 Shrimp, and 2 other fish that I can’t recall, all pretty good, presentation was very nice as well. We gulped down our sashimi because we were scared of running late for the Presidential Debates. Sadly, I think the wait and the whole emptiness of the restaurant enhanced the«i just want to eat and leave» feeling I had as well. If you feel for some sushi when you are hanging out at Cypress or Ecco, this wouldn’t be a bad stop, I would come back again only for the convenience factor.

I headed next door to 7 Sushi this week finally, and there was no one there besides chef and wait staff. Very strange for a Thursday night. I picked up a sushi&sashimi combo to go, which was great. Fresh and tasty. Leaps and bounds ahead of the previous incarnation which was Fune. I’m hoping more people check it out so they can stick around ;)

It’s taken over the Fune building. they haven’t gotten their liquor license yet, to my knowledge. so that is why the place it pretty empty. should get it soon. The sushi is FAB. They are having all you can eat lunch for $ 12, I haven’t tried that, but they may turn the conveyor belt sushi back on for that. The staff is great, they are super friendly and willing to help. The food is delish, and I live in the building! Whats not to love.

Fresh fish, creative rolls, although I must say some of the rolls are over the top. I started with some tuna tartare and ebi soro. The tuna tartare was different compared to other places, it had a little tangy kick to it. The ebi soro was button mushroom with a shrimp stuffing. I prefer the fresh taste of the tuna tartare. For rolls I ordered the shichi hako and the lotus, both were excellent. The shichi hako was a box type roll with a little bit of everything. The lotus was a shrimp tempura roll topped with snow crab, it’s actually real snow crab, not imitation. All the nigiri was very fresh, the uni especially. The o toro is one of the best in the area I have ever tasted. Not only was it good, it was way underpriced, $ 13 at the time, the price changes with the market. I had the lychee sherbet for dessert, tasty, palate-cleansing, and fresh. The atmosphere is very nice, chic, up-scale, and modern. The service was very friendly, knowledgeable wait-staff(mine was at least). Well, rounded sushi place, with price that is very affordable. The perfect choice for a first date restaurant.
