The Viking Store and Cooking School

I have taken 2 cake-​related classes here and found them to be quite entertaining, though I did not learn much from the levels that I selected: Classic Cakes and Baby Cakes.
I am an amateur home baker who took Foods (Home Ec) classes in high school and have watched many tutorials and YouTube videos to learn more techniques. I find following recipes to be quite intuitive, but I went to get more help decorating and maybe tips on improving mixing to get airy cake. Classic Cakes is more for the person who has never baked a cake before or is a total klutz when it comes to measuring and setting the correct oven temperature. The instructor was nice and patient and the students were nice. But I did feel after the fact that I wasted my money and afternoon, as I did not learn anything new at all. The nice thing is that you don’t have to fuss with measuring or cleaning up (the latter is my least favorite part when I am creating culinary delights).
Even though my first experience was less than ideal, I figured maybe it was my fault, as I did take a beginner’s class. Baby Cakes was slightly more advanced and I got the great idea of baking in mason jars. But no decorating tips, the instructor just allowed everyone to have fun with the task of topping our small cakes.
I enjoyed the recipes that I learned from both courses and may consider taking a more advanced course in the future.

What a fun, educating, and delicious experience! We had a private Napa Wine & Food event here last night and I was completely impressed. The food was excellent and paired perfectly, I learned some great preparation tips, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This is a must do event!

my employer arrange for us to go to viking for a team building and i had a great time. we started with cheese, wine and beer before the activity. there were about 20 of us and were split into 2 groups for a cook off. each team prepared 2 apps, chicken and rosotto. would recommend it!

I am a fan of Viking Kitchen products — especially their high-​end kitchen appliances. I came here because of a work event — and was so happy to participate and learn new dishes from local talents. We were fortunate enough to have a private event in which we were the only ones occupying the room. This allowed us to have an opportunity to talk to the chef without being interrupted by others.
If you have the time and money to take classes — I definitely recommend it! The staff and chefs are all very friendly and helpful.

This is a kitchen appliance\cooking school\kitchen utensils store. If you know viking, you know the shit’s expensive. I like to come in and just look around…
The staff is helpful and definitly know everyone of their products. I would say that they rival with william-​sonoma. ws has a wider variety of kitchenware though.

I was really excited to attend the Great American Steakhouse class with my boyfriend since he’s such a fan of steak, but I felt a little let down. First, there were not enough supplies for everyone to take part in preparing each dish on the menu. We were split into teams, and it was pretty much up to us how we delegated the tasks that were to be done. For the first 30 minutes of the class, I felt very unengaged. I remember standing there watching the team captains prep the food and thinking, «when is my turn coming?» Mind you, everyone in the class paid the same amount of money, $ 90.
Luckily, we had some great folks in our class, and so we ended up splitting up the work in such a way that everyone was included, no thanks to our instructors. Don’t get me wrong, they were welcoming and friendly, but the charge chef seemed a little scattered when we first started out, and didn’t really know his way around the kitchen (literally). His assistant chef was also disappointing. He spent the first few minutes of the class raving about the steaks he bought from Whole Foods, only to burn them while demonstrating how to cook them on the grill. The meat was so charred, it was literally crunching in my mouth.
Despite my gripes, the class wasn’t so bad. The majority of our food turned out pretty good, especially the mini chocolate cakes we baked. Also, we learned some pretty useful kitchen basics, like how to properly chop an onion, and how to separate egg yolks and whites. All the same, I didn’t feel this class was worth the money. However, I’d definitely be willing to try out another hands on workshop.

I took a Julie & Julia class here and had such a wonderful time! The staff was absolutely delightful and helpful my chef/​teacher was great! He even had stories about his time he spent with Julia Child.
They offer such a variety of classes! I can’t wait to go back!

I consider myself a pretty good cook, so when I saw Viking was offering cooking classes, I figured I would take a class and learn a new recipe or two. Now after 8 classes in 10 months, I have learned close to 50 recipes, not to mention, improving my skills and confidence in the kitchen.
I have leaned to make crepes, lattice topped pies, appetizers wrapped in phyllo dough, homemade soups, fudge, toffee and how to professionally decorate a cake with buttercream. The instructors are amazing… friendly, fun and they are excellent teachers. Students who take the class range from young beginners who can barely hold a knife, to seasoned veterans, who have taken several of the «Viking University» series of classes. Everyone feels welcome and comfortable, and everyone learns something.
The classes are pricy, but I think they are worth every penny. You are provided beverages, wine and a light meal during your class, and of course, you get to eat the meal you have just prepared (or take it home, depending on what it is). Viking does all of the cleaning and tedious prep work, and you are free to just enjoy yourself and learn.

I love to cook and receive compliments on my culinary skills but am unconcerned with where my kitchenware comes from: Publix, Kmart, Le Gourmet Chef, the Viking Store – as long as it gets the job done. I set foot in the Viking Store in the first place because of my foodie friend, impressed by the array of merchandise that I never knew existed… a meat pounder, a fish turner.
The Viking Store definitely contains high-​quality kitchen items for foodies who choose to spend their disposable income on their passion.
I returned to the Viking Store today to purchase a gift for my foodie friend, who pointed out the item to me when I first visited the store. When I asked the woman working in the store where the special pasta drainer was located, she shrugged, clearly communicating that she could care less whether the store carried it or not, exuding extreme apathy about her ignorance of the merchandise. In fact, she was so unhelpful, I ended up having to purchase a gift card instead.
Just because she hates her life, she doesn’t have to ruin customers’ shopping experience and reflect poorly on the Viking Store brand.

I just attend a wine presentation at the Viking Culinary center and it was a wonderful evening. Not only do they offer a wide arrange of classes but they also have a store full of everything Viking. The chef did a food pairing with Ca wines and everything tasted great. I was very impressed and will be back for further classes.

Culinary Arts classes that are as enjoyable as you want to make them… so go with the right person, or if solo, the right attitude. Loads of fun if you’re into it. Simple even for beginners. Date Night classes can be a blast.

I am not the best cook especially when it comes to more than a main dish. At my house, I usually just eat the side items. But, at the Viking Culinary Store they teach you how to cook like an expert.
I took a class on Louisiana style cuisine. It was a hands on class so we actually had to prepare what we were going to eat that night. The class had about 8 – 10 students in it and we were all assigned a job. The instructor taught us basic knife handling skills, how to cut an onion without crying, and how to listen to when fried chicken is finished.
After about an hour and a half of preparation and cooking, we sat down to eat. We made jambalaya, pork tenderloin, pickled shrimp, hurricanes, and sweet potato biscuits! Everything was so good that I couldn’t believe, that me, the queen of side items, actually helped make it!
I believe the class was about $ 60 – 70. They also offer demonstration classes that are a little less expensive. And they bring in well known chefs from other parts of the country. This would be a great thing to do with a group of friends, with a date, or on your own.

Recently signed up for the Date Night — A night in the city. I had emailed and asked if it was hands on course and was told that it was. However, it ended up being a Chef’s Table. I guess I had no idea what to expect. When I was told that it would be hands on, I thought I’d be cooking my own piece of meat and eating my own masterpiece. But it’s more of a volunteer for certain parts of the meal.
Even though I would have preferred to cook everything myself, it was still a lot of fun. Our menu consisted of crab cakes, roasted radish, and a veal chop w/​sauteed mushrooms and shallots. We also made peach/​raspberry bellinis which we drank the entire time. The crab cakes were AMAZING! However, the veal was just so so. It was a Mario Batali recipe, but I felt like the mushrooms and shallots were too sweet on top. Also, the veal was grilled, which made the meat kind of too charred.
Overall though, it was a lot of fun. Definitely a great idea for a date night. It’s a little pricey ($ 89/​person), but it’s probably comparable to going out to a nice restaurant in town + you get to learn! Afterwards, they give you a copy of all the recipes from the evening so that you can experiment on your own.

I took a fantastic French cooking class here… very encouraging for the «personalized» way that I tend to cook. I picked up a lot of great tips. Great selection for cooking supplies as well. Someday, perhaps, my kitchen will be nice enough to reflect that which is presented at Viking. I’ll def. be coming back for more!

Some people are naturals in the kitchen. A good test of this is if the idea of finely chopping an onion makes you break into a sweat.
I’m not a natural. And breaking into a nervous sweat probably increases the likelyhood of knife slippage.
Despite this, I’ve done a few cooking classes at the Viking Cooking School in Buckhead. There are a few types of classes: hands-​on, demonstration and series. Hands on and demonstrations are one time classes that last a few hours, while the series cover things like cooking basics.
Be sure to pick a hands-​on one for the most ‘cooking school’ like experience. You and your fellow students will gather ’round the counter and break into groups to preform the task at hand. Courses range from Japanese to Hawaiian, with much in between. In the Tuscany class I took, we made homemade pasta, and cranked ravioli out of the little pasta press (and of course, purchased one after the class using the 10% store discount you’ll get once you’re done). At the end of class, you’ll sit down with your fellow fledging chefs and eat a full meal — usually paired with wine or a cocktail.
Demonstration classes are like being in the audience of a Food Network show — all you get to do is watch and quickly scarf down a couple samples. They can be fun too, if you want something a bit more inexpensive and are ok just watching instead of participating.
The fine Viking folk have created a class for just about anyone, and if you’re stuck on deciding on a gift idea, check the calendar for the upcoming class schedule. The popular ones tend to sell out quickly, so definitely book in advance.
They have teen classes, ‘girls night out,’ and date night classes too. And even a knife skills class. .. I’ll make it there someday.

Some guys dream about super models, some guys dream about Ferraris, I simply dream about a Viking Kitchen. True I can see the Ferrari parked outside the kitchen window, and the super model is sprawled out on the hood wearing nothing but… ummm, well I’ll stop there. Viking is an American company (made in Mississippi), and in my opinion makes the best pro-​style equipment for residential kitchens. The Viking store features all of their excellent products including the new knife line, pots & pans, and other accesories. Aside from being a retail kitchen shop, they offer cooking courses in a decked out Viking kitchen adjacent to the retail area.

Another good spot for shopping or gifts for the gourmet crowd. Viking sells specialty cook wear, kitchen tools, ingredients, and appliances. You want a high end gas range or grill that will make your friends and neighbors jealous? This is your place. It’s stainless steel brushed chrome as far as the eye can see.
The Buckhead Viking location also host regular cooking classes and technique demonstrations. They’re not cheap, but if you know someone who loves to cook it makes for a great gift. Sure, they are an attempt to get you to fall in love with Viking products, but you’ll be cooking at the store with other students and then get to hang out and taste the fruits of your labor.

I love kitchen stores. I don’t know what it is but I feel like I have to have one of everything when it comes to cooking tools and gadgets and casserole dishes. Viking has got some of the best stuff. They also have cooking classes and demonstrations… I’ve never made it to one yet, but it’s been on my to-​do list for a while.
