Union 16 is a jewel in a sea of cubic zirconia. It’s the real deal… and never fails to make me feel shiny and sparkly!

AJ was recommended to me by Meg C after both my stylists left Salon Modello. The salon is located in the Studioplex complex in Old 4^th Ward. It can be a little bit of a pain to find, but so is everything in that area.
He was friendly & definitely listened to what I wanted. I had a pretty solid line of dark color from the previous fall when I had my hair significantly darker. He put in some lighter shades to break it up & get rid of the ombré look. He kept my cut pretty standard & maintained my length while cleaning up my massive amount of split ends.
As with all stylists worth going to, his prices were about on par with my previous stylists ($ 150ish for cut & color). While that will be out of my price range for the next 6 years, I would recommend him to someone who can afford to drop some money on their hair & wants a solid result.

I moved to Atlanta just over 4 years ago, and after a lot of looking and finally a recommendation from a trusted friend, I met AJ. Now he has been my stylist and hair guru for 2 – 3 years now. Union 16 is a great illustration of his passion! I highly recommend this salon and cannot sing it’s praises enough! Top notch staff, products, and a welcoming and fun atmosphere!

As always, Slone is amazing! I have the honor of being Slone’s very first paid haircut, way back in the day before her skilz were mad. I got in a drunken clipper fight the very next day — destroyed all her good work and her confidence when she saw me in the Spa for a massage the next week. We laugh about it now. Union 16 is a nice space, with a simple clean cut bearded hipster vibe you might find at a start up tech company before they get their first infusion of VC money. Slone is in good company, surrounded by shiny happy people peacefully cutting hair. I like how Buddha watches over me when they wash me (PS you get a nice little head massage kicker, if she likes you). Sometimes she’ll sing too. She sings nice. Bike parking around back… you have to look for it. Ask for the Mike Helms discount.

Lori is an incredibly talented stylist with total insight to fashion. Theo and A.J. have cut & colored my hair with awesome results. The staff is so inspiring to be around. Anyone looking for the «Best of the Best» should experience this salon. Great atmosphere to be in. I not only look great when I leave but I feel great.

Love this place! Slone is a delight and does great work. If you color your hair, make sure to get the olaplex treatment, it will save your hair from breakage like nothing else.

How do I begin… AJ is the best hairstylist I’ve had… ever. and I miss his mastery since I moved from ATL…
I even scheduled a haircut during a 1 day layover in ATL this April (from Africa to Seattle via Amsterdam & Atlanta after 24+ hours of travel)… this is how much I love and miss his work.
I was a Fresche Customer of Aj’s in… 2008 (?)… and now he owns his own salon — great job!
I have layered Asian hair, which is straight and not terribly thicke. He’s a great listener, and when I described what I needed my first visit, he listened, he gently made suggestions to what I thought I needed, he cut, he checked, and he nailed it. I really need volume on the back of my crown… and I need my face-​framing layers just so… and he magically makes it happen every time! He also has this calming presence and great sense of humor that puts me at ease. He’s is a seasoned professional and the space has a wonderful vibe — I especially love the comforting room with dimmed lights for my wash, which is calming before the haircut.
And with my haircut, I can tell the PRECISION with which he’s cut it. Even when I can’t get back beyond 2, 3, 4+ months (e.g. as I’ve been traveling abroad), although my hair has terribly grown out, it maintains its look better than many other haircuts I’ve had!
I’ll see how I can redirect my layovers through ATL, if possible, next chance I get! … I’m still searching for my stylist at home…

Absolutely the best stylist ever! AJ is a true master when it come to hair… he is a one of a kind find and does platinum like no other! :) His technique is bar none and his service is exceptional!

Finally found a great place. I’m a guy and you would think it wouldn’t be too hard to mess up a guy’s cut, but those hairstylists are out there and AJ is not one of them. He cut and styled my hair the best it has been in a good while. My original guy that cut my hair in Canton moved and I moved as well back down to Atlanta. I had already tried several places and when searching again, I came across Union16 on Unilocal.Yelpers got it right on this one and now I am glad I can cross the hair stylist search off the list.

Very cool, chill salon located in StudioPlex. Great service and stylists. Lori is the gal I go to, but I’m sure you’d get great service from anyone there.

Love the style I get from Lori. I always walk out of there with a great cut and/​or color. I’ve had former stylists who used too much product and would cut my hair the way they think it would look good… neither of which would match my personality! Lori has always struck a great balance of listening to my needs and suggesting ideas that will go with it (and look a lot better!). She also gave my 5yr old daughter an awesome cut!

When my wife is happy everyone is happy. She got her first haircut from AJ over 4 years ago. Since her first cut she insists that our whole family use AJ and we do. I love that the haircut I get looks good walking out of the salon, but even more that I can make it look good the next day. AJ not just cuts hair he understands it. My cuts still look great weeks later. He is an artist. We will be going back. I highly recommend AJ and Union16 Salon.

Naturally I went back to AJ at Union 16… this time with an idea for a different haircut. I booked online (super easy and convenient!) and sent him a link to the Miss Fisher Mysteries TV show (it’s Australian). I said I wanted Miss Fisher’s hair… and I walked out of the salon with just what I wanted. Two weeks later this woman came up to me in a shop and told me that she loved my haircut, adding «You look just like the actress in the Miss Fisher Mysteries.» Score! Thank you, again, AJ! See you soon!

Union 16 is amazing. While the décor, location, parking, and ambiance of the salon are definitely worthy of high praise, the best thing about the salon in my opinion is AJ Horan, the owner. When I moved to Atlanta, a friend recommended AJ, and my life has changed ever since. He is absolutely incredible. I used to be afraid of coloring or highlighting my hair because I did not want it to look fake. AJ is able to color and highlight my hair, achieving a sun-​kissed look that doesn’t grow back with terrible roots. I get compliments on my hair all the time… even if it has been a few months since I’ve been to the salon. He is fun to be around and treats all of his clients like old friends. I love Union 16 and AJ so much that even though I now live in Dallas, I make it a point to come to Atlanta and book an appointment at Union 16 every few months. It’s that worth it.

Lori has been cutting my hair since I arrived in Atlanta over 5 years ago, so when she moved to Union16, so did I, and happily. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, the salon space is lovely – open and inviting with a view to the Studioplex inner courtyard – and the products they use and carry are top-​notch.
Since she’s been cutting my hair, Lori has done everything from a pixie to a bob to a long shag, and every single time I’ve gotten tons of compliments. (Seriously, one time three people stopped me in a store parking lot – separately! – to tell me how much they liked my haircut.) I even get compliments when it’s grown out a bit because her cuts hold their shape so well. And she’s always willing to look through photos from Pinterest and talk about what style and length will work best with my hair texture and face shape.
Go to Union16! You won’t regret it.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SALON! It is so large and airy and clean and stylish. AJ Horan, the owner has more talent than doing spectacular cuts and color, he’s an interior designer in disguise. The courtyard at union16 is welcoming and is shaded with areas with sun. Plenty of parking in the back near the salon too.
The large windows make for a bright atmosphere and the décor, oh my gosh it’s just beautiful. There isn’t a better looking more affordable and welcoming salon in the Old Fourth Ward. union16 SALON ROCKS!
I’ve been seeing AJ Moran as a stylist for more than 3 years now.
I have followed AJ from FRECSHE SALON to Union 16 and would follow him anywhere. He is always polite, professional; on time and there is no drama in this salon of nice, experienced, friendly stylists.
I would recommend seeing them for anything from consultations to bold new styles.
I’ve seen some of the brides AJ has done and saw the joy on their faces, he’s seriously into making you feel good about you.
I drive a bit to get there and it’s always a treat to show up! Coffee/​Tea station and cold beverages are offered. There is no strong odor from products because the salon is so big. Anyway, I’ve gushed enough about AJ HORAN AT union16.
