34 Wine and Spirits

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t live anywhere near this location. Not even slightly close. I don’t even work near here. But with the welcoming staff and great selection, it’s already been deemed our «way away from our neighborhood» liquor store. And we don’t mind the drive.
I live to shop local. I think all born and raised Austinites do. And when I get to shop local AND support someone from my alma mater (Ricky Williams), that’s a place that’s got my business! The boyfriend and I stopped in last Saturday because he wanted to get my brother a wedding gift and is also an avid listener of 104.9 The Horn, particularly mornings with Bucky and Erin, where he had heard about the opening of 34. We stopped in looking for Ricky William’s MVP Vodka, but found a lot more.
The store is simple, clean, well designed, and well laid out. There are place cards all over the store that not only point out Ricky’s Picks with background info, but give descriptions of wines and what they pair with, which is incredibly helpful for someone with as little wine knowledge as myself. There was a tequila tasting going on when we stopped by, Dulce Vida, which was a great welcome into the store.
While we were looking around we were greeted by one of the co-​owners, AJ Godbolt, who was a sweetheart and asked if there was anything we needed help with or were looking for. It’s nice when the owners play a part in the store and show that they really care about their customers.
While this may not be in our neighborhood, it is definitely our new go-​to place for liquor, no matter the drive. Why shop at a chain when you can not only support local, but maybe even run into a celebrity/​Ricky while shopping, as it seems when he is in town he is very active in being at the store! Now if only I could watch a live Longhorn Network Texas GameDay pregame show in person there…
