I was recommended by a close friend to use this company and boy do we both regret it! I actually postponed writing this review because I did not want to deal with this guy ever again (notice how much he likes drama and arguing in his responses). I hired him to build a simple fence and instead of sending a fence builder interested in quality and making a good reputation for his company, he sent a guy who built a fence that guests laugh at when they see it. The fence looks like my Pee-​pal built it instead of a professional. Just the gate alone would have been unacceptable to any real contractor who cared about their work and their reputation. I wouldn’t hire this guy to build a dog house.
But besides all that, dealing with Gene was terrible. He is the most defensive, drama prone person I have ever met. He argued with me over text message before he even came out to the job – That was the first red flag! I only went with Gene because his bid came in so low. Remember folks, you get what you pay for. And with Gene, you are paying for substandard work and an argument from a defensive person with issues, and you will be happy once he is off your property for good.

Pretty perfect. Quick quote with options and a good price. When they came to estimate the quote, the guy even fixed a broken faucet for free, and was really nice about everything. He gave me like a million tips for other projects as well, from painting to gardening. Super nice guy.
I trusted them with my home, and when the project turned out to be a bit bigger than expected, the team took it very well and got it done on schedule.
I will absolutely be working with A Frame again in the future.

We’d been thinking we would have to replace the fence sometime soon when Mother Nature decided that ‘soon’ was actually ‘now.’ With our neighbors being the cool kids they are, we weren’t pushed for time. We got some bids, waited for dry weather, and, when we were finally in the same country at the same time, moved forward with the best bid: A Frame Home Services.
Gene was great. He worked with me and my lumberjack through some contract changes, accommodated my neighbors’ want of an extended fence and gate, and got his crew in and out in less than 2 days. There were no surprise price increases and removal of the old fence was included. He’s got other services like room venting and tree trimming, which brought my neighbor untold amounts of joy.
The day the work was done I went to the yard to admire his crew’s handiwork. Also to admire the chickens. My neighbors’ chickens. The ones running around my yard aimlessly looking for a coop that I didn’t have. My neighbor and his son came by to throw them back to their side of the new fence, and then we spent an hour chasing the last stubborn one around the bamboo in the back. I have a mosquito bite on my forehead to prove it. This beats all other fence stories.

Have you ever experienced a contractor:

Regardless of the size of the job — in my case, painting an entire condo, building and filling deck planters, and even hanging artwork — Gene is always ready to make it happen with good, practical solutions. He is incredibly knowledgeable and well-​connected in the Austin community.
Above all, Gene returns calls! He communicates really well with emails, texts, photos of recommendations or progress on the job — great sense of humor, always checks the work, always make sure the customer is happy.
I am beyond pleased with everything Gene and his crew have done to make my home more beautiful and welcoming. This is my go-​to guy for all future projects.

I hired A-​Frame for a small job, replacing fence posts. It went very well, including the crew returning promptly to fix one issue.

Based on this, I have engaged Gene and A-​Frame for a $ 20,000 project to be completed within about a month. I’m looking forward to this larger job going extremely well too!

Gene fixed out entire fence and it was completed in a timely manner and a much more affordable price.
He was always polite and responded in a timely manner. Called me back initially within 30 minutes.
We had to call him back out for a simple repair and he came right out and took care of it for us.
Highly recommend this company.

A-​Frame is not a company I would recommend based on my experience. Just review their response to this feedback to see their total lack of professionalism.
I contacted Gene to get quotes on several projects for my house. I started with 2 smaller projects to see how it would go before scheduling the larger ones.
The first was to just do some simple landscaping maintance in my front yard. There was a little confusion on the work that was done versus what I was quoted but overall the job was done well for the price I paid.
The other job was to replace about 10 tiles in my bathroom that had been scratched by another contractor who had been doing work in my house. When they came to repair the tile they mentioned it would be tough to match the exact color of the original grout but that it «wouldn’t really be noticeable». After they were done it was very noticeable. The original color was a light brown /​gray color and the color they used was dark black. They were able to come up with a simple solution to just put a thin layer of the darker grout over the entire floor. This seemed easy enough so we decided to move forward with this plan.
It’s very difficult for me to work from home but I found a morning and confirmed a 9:30am appointment for that day. At 9:30am I received a call asking what time they should come. I reminded them we had confirmed 9:30 the prior night and also forwarded the email to Gene (the boss) so if there were issues later he would know about the tardiness. The contractor did not arrive at my house until 10:30 and clearly he was annoyed — either because I had been difficult in the past or because I forwarded our email to his boss confirming he was late — although I never even called him out for being late and never intended to — just wanted Gene to have a record of the original scheduled start time.
The contractor worked on my floor for about an hour and then went outside, got in his car and drove away. I was working at my kitchen table, right next to the front door and he didn’t say anything as he left. I wasn’t sure if he was done, getting more supplies or what was going on. About 20 minutes later he texted me to let me know I shouldn’t walk on the floor for a while so I assumed he was done and I could finally get to work an hour and a half later than I had planned.
I went and inspected the floor and noticed that one small portion of tile had no grout in it at all and for some reason he chose not to do any tile near /​around the toilet. The work he did do looked much, much better but he chose not to finish the last 10%.
Since he was unprofessional and rude in how he left, I did not feel comfortable having him back in my house to finish the job (that resolution was not offered either). I contacted Gene for a resolution. He said since 90% of the work was done, he wanted me to pay 90% of what I still owed him (I had already paid a deposit of about 45%). I thought this was ridiculous and we argued back and forth for a while until he threatened legal action if I did not pay the 90%. Less due to the threat (He admitted the work wasn’t done and I had pictures) and more just because I was sick of wasting my time with him, I paid him 100% of the remaining balance and will now have to go spend more money and my time to finish the job he was too lazy to do.
From my experience and the other reviews I think Gene and his team are capable of good work, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk of hiring him. If they aren’t in the mood you may not get a completed job and then they will blame you for being difficult or impossible to please and threaten legal action if you don’t pay them.

Gene — I took some issues with the work your company did. The job wasn’t finished so I assume it was laziness or because I was perceived as difficult. I gave you good reviews on the front yard and said your company was capable of good work. I did not personally attack you. I tried to come up with a reasonable financial settlement and was going to withhold my thoughts on Unilocal as to not hurt your business– it wasn’t meant as a threat which I have already explained to you. If you put half the effort in to the job as you did attacking me in this review, I would have been satisfied as the job would have been completed. Lastly, if you are going to try to make me look bad by violating my privacy and posting personal emails, you should at least be honest and and not edit the emails in your favor. You deleted the sections where you threatened me with a mechanical lien, and also lied about your final payment as it was 100%, not 90%.

Wow — I can’t remember the last time I was this impressed by the overall service from this type of company. A Frame is responsive (contacted me within a few hours of my visit to their website, in the evening, and then came out the next morning), reasonably priced, and best of all, they do great work. Gene was friendly and professional, and he did a great job. I am thrilled!

I’ve been using A Frame consistently for almost 3 years and am always happy with the service I receive. I have my yard maintained every couple of weeks, have had minor home repairs completed, and referred them to other friends that were equally satisfied.
My neighbor actually came over a couple of weeks ago to get their contact info to take care of their yard. Scheduling is easy and payment is a breeze.

Gene at A– Frame home services is my go to guy. When I need to know what kind of costs I am looking at, he shoots straight with me. He helped me look my place over before I bought it, he took care of my roof replacement including making sure I was getting everything I was supposed to get from the insurance company, he has done floor repairs and a water heater replacement on the tenant side of my duplex. he has also done shower repair and other plumbing work for me and even some landscaping. I call him a lot and I recommend Gene, Joe and the A Frame crew for your general contracting and repair needs.

I had these guys come out to finish my house that I was building. Their reviews were great on here. They bid it and I thought it was a fair price for all of the work that needed to be done. They asked for $ 15,500 up front and $ 15,500 at sheetrock and $ 6,500 at completion of work.
To make a very long story short. They took forever to get things done. I would go weeks without hearing from them and then they would lie and tell me they fixed everything (so we could pass our inspections) when they hadn’t. I have racked up over $ 1,100 in re-​inspection fees from the City of Austin thanks to them. After all of that I get an email from them tell me that it is in their best interest and my best interest that they stop working on my house and terminate our contract (after I paid them 15,500 just 2 – 3 weeks before for sheetrock, which they didn’t finish).
They have cost me an endless amount of money. Easily $ 20,000.
OVERALL:
A Frame Home Services is, based on my experience, a lying, deceitful, money grubbing company that turns everything back on you saying «It’s all your fault! We are not in the wrong.»
Stay away from these guys at all cost.

I wrote my first review too soon. The gentleman than came out Saturday was nice and fast. I was told a master plumber would be in touch to come out Monday morning and I agreed to be available.
Nobody called Saturday or Sunday to confirm a time. I waited around all day Monday and still nobody called or showed up. I called in the afternoon to check in, but nobody answered. I filled out the contact form as suggested by the phone recording, but no response. I haven’t heard one peep from anybody at all since then.
There are absolutely some kinks in the line of communication that need to be worked out. I’m more upset about not getting a response at all than I am about nobody showing on Monday. Seriously, call/​email/​text me and give me any excuse. That’s better than nothing at all.

I’m glad your sorry. That’s the appropriate response. Yes, I know you have good reviews, they are the reason you were contacted. If Joe had put half the effort in communicating as you have in defending the poor service, you wouldn’t have gotten the review. Yes, you have good reviews. That doesn’t mean mine is inaccurate. Yes, I was frustrated, but deservedly so. Hopefully, others will see both the good and bad reviews and it will weigh into their choice. Of course you want to think that only the good reviews are reflective of your service, but that’s not the case. My review is accurate and should affect your ratings. Notably, though you have apparently talked to Mr. Gross, you offered no explanation as to why he never called and, even after I called, he never sent the promised quote. Customers don’t have time to chase people down to give them business.

A Frame Home Services helped me completely revamp my house and they did an amazing job. They put in hardwood floors & base boards, painted three rooms, installed of interior and exterior lighting and ceiling fans. They were professional, patient with questions, reasonably priced and fast. My house looks so much better now.

Nick with A Frame Home Services did a great job installing some new drawer slides in our kitchen and bathroom. He helped us determine which slides were the right ones and, overall, went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with the results.
One of the drawers had warped from previous water damage, but Nick was diligent and worked on the project until the drawer motion was just right.
Hiring A Frame was the right decision for us and we will hire them again for future home-​improvement projects.

A Frame put in a concrete floor for us in our garden room this past spring. I was overall very happy with the quality of the work and service we received. If I could give a four-​and-​a-​half stars, I would. The floor looked and continues to look fantastic.
I worked primarily with Joe Goss and the subcontractor for the project, Calen Gabriel. Joe and Calen both had full access to our home at various times and I felt entirely comfortable with that situation.
As the guy laying the floor, Calen was there most often and I found him extremely responsive, professional, and pleasant to work with. That’s important with a process involving staining concrete, as the cure time for the overlayment and process of building up the color easily means a multi-​day project. We hope to have A Frame do additional floors in the house and hope that Calen will be the subcontractor again.
Joe was A Frame’s project lead and the one who did the finishing work such as painting and installing additional molding to cover the small gap between the new (slightly lower) concrete floor and the existing molding. Joe’s work was quick and good and he, too, was professional and pleasant to work with. Overall, Joe was responsive, but the reason I am not giving five stars is that after the concrete was done (and after I had given the remainder of the payment), I felt like I had to chase him a bit to return my emails and get the final bits of work done so we could really put the house back together.
Joe explained that he was very busy at the time. I believe the explanation and everything turned out satisfactorily. But it can unsettling to the customer to have paid one’s money and then have to start nagging to get the project completed – even if everyone has the best of intentions. It think it would serve A Frame well as they deservedly get more business to bear that in mind and staff up accordingly. That said, I would be happy to work with Joe and Gene and A Frame again.

I feel very conflicted about A Frame Home Services. This review would most certainly be lower had it not been for the customer service that Joe provided.
The communication was great… as long as I dealt with Joe.
The initial price estimate was great… but the final cost was about 20% over-​budget.
My small project included moving a small wall, removing bathroom tile, and texturing said wall… but not painting of the wall nor finishing the flooring underneath the removed bathroom tile, an incorrect assumption on my part.
The work completed was great… except they made an absolute mess, left behind demolition debris, and the ceiling fan was no longer working. …which was mostly resolved by Joe who cleaned the mess as best he could, removed the debris, and fixed the ceiling fan himself.
To their credit they did start and finish the job on time. They also had complete access to my home and were always careful to lock up on the way out.

I found this company on Unilocal and hired them immediately. I was extremely happy at first just like all the other reviewers. One of the employees came and did work at our home and impressed us initially. The job started off great and then went down hill fast. I found out that we truly got what we paid for. They started out treating us like important valued customers. Once we put the deposit down, we started noticing a difference in the level of service. Our needs were put on the back burner.
Unilocal is great because it has gotten A Frame alot of business. But also, they are now far too busy and that results in poor customer service and follow up. Multiple balls were dropped over the course of a month. I could fill an entire page of with different things that happened and how poorly we were treated but suffice it to say, I will never work with A Frame again. I never write Unilocal reviews but I had to in this case, to save you the trouble I encountered.
This saddens me because they are competitively priced and things started out so well. But soon it became clear how this company runs their business. The last straw was when one of the contractors was extremely rude and angry on the phone with me. He directed his anger at one of his subcontractors toward me. I am extremely patient with people’s behavior, but this was unacceptable. It was almost impossible getting in touch with anyone and it took 3x as long as we were originally promised that the job would take. The saddest part is, I had already recommended A Frame to my family and friends who would’ve spent tens of thousands with them on house projects. I had to call each of them back and take back that recommendation. The work was finally completed, but we have never been treated like this before by any company we have hired. They are far too busy with not enough help. We have lots more work we want done and I will be choosing a different company that is dedicated to excellence, customer service and effective communication.

There is not a single handy bone in our bodies and my husband and I prefer doing it right the first time over trying to figure it out ourselves.
We found these guys because of Unilocal,as always. And, as always, we are VERY happy we did. They’re awesome! They’re also friendly, affordable, prompt, courteous, and. well you get the drift.
We’ll definitely be bugging them for anything and everything for a long time.
