Abrakadoodle

Abrakadoodle is SOOOOO much fun! My son and I are taking a once a week 6-​week session right now, and I can’t recommend it enough!!! I’m not sure what their summer schedule is going to be, so check out their site. Mrs. Jenny is SOOOOOO MUCH FUN and the art projects the kiddos get to do are educational and creative! Thank you, Mrs. Jenny and Abrakadoodle!
Ps…It always makes me sad to read a negative review on Unilocal of a business/​organization that I’ve had a wonderful experience with… I urge you to come and try Abrakadoodle for yourselves, because our experience has been AWESOME and the classroom we’re in is BEAUTIFUL!

My daughter attended an Abrakadoodle Austin art camp this summer and she loved it! My little sleeper even got out of bed early each morning to make the drive into town! The camp was held at a sculpture garden and the kids also got to go on nature walks and scavenger hunts. The large art room was open to the wonderful view of the gardens. The facilities were nice, there were two kind and engaging instructors, and she treasures the art work that she made that now decorates our entry way. The last day of camp the parents were invited to see the kids gallery of art where each child described their favorite piece of art they created, it was just precious. We will definitely take more classes with Abrakadoodle… she’s already asked to take another class.

My daughter just completed a 4 day Abrakadoodle Pirates, Princesses & Princes art camp and I am less than happy with the overall experience! The classroom was maybe the size of a large bedroom and the air conditioning was less than ample. I would say it was about 80 degrees in the room. There were two fold up tables that appeared to be quite old. One had the laminate broken off on about a third of the table. The rug was filthy as were the very old chairs. They only had one instructor on site and she was overseeing 8 kids. This meant that when a child needed to use the rest room which was down the hall there was no adult available to monitor that the child got there and back safely. Instead they sent another child with the child needing to use the bathroom. Really?!
The cost of a 4 day 3hr a day class was $ 165. I didn’t expect a picasso for that price or instruction level however I did expect that the materials available would be sufficient to keep the kids entertained and able to create some fun art. What they had to work with was grey construction paper, white drawing paper, some foam cut outs and some copied coloring pads. They did some painting using what looked like watercolors on one day.
The last day the parents were invited for a presentation. The instructor, Deborah, was unprepared. She had to read from a binder throughout the presentation to figure out what she was supposed to do and say next. Come on! Could you not have looked it over and been familiar with it before class! She also was unfamiliar with the styles of art she was supposed to be teaching the kids. When it came time for her to explain the Origami boat that the children made she held up a cut out of a castle instead of the boat and then couldn’t pronounce Origami so instead she referred to the Asian couple in class and said they could probably tell us! WHAT!!!
Overall this was a horrible experience! I hoped it would be fun but my 6yr old daughter was not over enthused with the experience either. I do not recommend Abrakadoodle and will never use them again!

Our son has been going for years and has learned so much. We have never regretted registering him for after-​school, summer camps… we’ve even had them to our house for a birthday party!

Abrakadoodle is ART education for children and it’s not only to give them a bunch of crayons to color a pretty picture. I am very impressed with the curriculum. Every week it’s something new and different and my daughter comes home with her creations. Abrakadoodle lets them explore and create things with different materials and art tools. My daughter loves it, and she is learning a lot from different artists from all over the world.
