Dr. Barstow received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University in 1993. After college, he earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, followed by a clinical fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, as well as a research fellowship in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

Like many other Austinites, I developed cedar allergies after several years of living here. My quality of life suffered for about 3 months out of the year (couldn’t sleep, sneezing all day long). After living with them for 3 years, I resolved to either get the shots or drops. After getting allergy tested, I decided to go with the drops because I’m really bad with shots.
Dr. Barstow is very professional, nice, and funny! The nurse who made my serum and instructed me on epi-​pen usage was also very nice as well.
I was late getting the drops (early Dec, they recommend you start taking them early Nov) but I have to say, they have dramatically decreased my allergy symptoms. I can now breathe through my nose at night and I don’t sneeze every five minutes. Thanks guys!

Dr. Barstow and his team have been wonderful to me. He really took his time to explain the process and answer all of my questions. I’ve known for years that I should be doing allergy shots but was REALLY afraid to sign up for years of shots. I went to his office hoping to walk away with allergy drops, but I’m allergic to everything under the sun, so it’s not really my best option. He calmly, and with a touch of humor, described a few of my options and was able to melt away my fears. I even went in for a morning of 18 shots. 18. I’m a trooper. But in all honesty, it really wasn’t bad at all. I’m now one shot away from being down to once a week shots instead of twice a week and I started in late June! I’m on a backup daily pill for now and it’s so nice to not suffer on days other people are complaining about their allergies. I recommend him to everyone I see suffering from allergies.

The facility is nice the staff is hit or miss. I find them a little shady. I got my shots as instructed, my insurance always paid, and when I had a reaction I followed the instructions. I had new serum made about a week or two ago and that was also paid for I then received this letter. I feel they made my serum to get the money and then «fired» me as their patient. Their nurse is a little rude to patients and you can hear them talking about you in the next room or in the hall which I find very unprofessional. Go at your own risk.

A bit frustrated because the Dr wanted me to check back in with him. I called a few times and no one on their phone can hear me, and they don’t have an email to reach them at, but they haven’t called me either. I haven’t gotten a bill yet though so maybe it’s free LOL. But seriously I’m still having snoring issues I thought they could help with and when I find time I’ll have to stop in for help with something I hoped I could fix over the phone.

I saw Dr. Leath for some allergies I recently developed. I thought he was thorough and I received an accurate diagnosis. I was satisfied with that experience.
However, I think their practice pricing is a little high. They charged me $ 55 for a one time peak flow test. To put this in context, this is a test that takes 2 minutes that you can do on your own with devices available at Walgreens for as little as $ 16.99. I’ve had the same test done at my primary care physician a number of times and have never been charged seperatly for it. My insurance company didn’t cover the test, so I had to pay out of pocket for it.
I also found their office staff (not the doctors or nurses) to be a little rude.

I never thought I would write a review for a doctor, but I feel as though Dr. Thomas Leath deserves it. Today was my first visit to this location. I had been his patient at another facility. The office staff was very nice, the nurse was sweet, and everything was clean. There was a beautiful view if the city outside the exam room window too!
Dr. Leath is most likely the best doctor I’ve ever seen here or in my old home town near Pittsburgh. He really listens and cares. You feel like you are working together, not being talked down to or talked at. I feel like he honestly cares about making my allergy condition better and that means a lot. If you are looking for an amazing doctor, Dr. Leath at Allergy and Asthma Associates is the place to go!

Extremely nice, friendly (and funny!) staff, convenient allergy shot hours, and good location. Dr. Barstow is very knowledgeable and takes the time to answer all your questions. They are very good with billing and don’t harass you when it comes to payments. Just a note that if you do get prescribed an antibiotic for a sinus infection, BE CAREFUL with Avelox… I had a reaction to it. Since I come here every week for shots, I’m glad to be going to a place with such super nice people. The shot itself is painful, but the overall experience is quite pleasant. A+

Dr. Barstow is great. He’s extremely friendly and helpful. I recently transferred to his clinic from a different allergy clinic up north where I was treated like another number. Dr. Barstow was actually interested in what I had to say and offered several options to improve my allergies.
The entire office is extremely friendly as well. Very excited to find such a wonderful allergy clinic in town.
Highly recommended!
