Established in 1987.

Apartment Experts South had its beginnings in Properties One, one of the original apartment locating companies in Austin, founded in 1987. Aparmtent locating recognized the unique needs of the renter, helping them to sift through the countless apartment complexes, lease options and legal aspects of renting in the Austin apartment marketing with the goal of matching their specific needs to the ideal rental property.

Tom was awesome during my transition for my job and is still awesome now. I had contacted several relocators and advised them of my situation. Due to rescheduling and other job-​related events, my transition date kept changing… only Tom kept in touch and didn’t seem bothered by the constant flux. He even went so far as to interview the apts. for me and post videos in a shared account he created. Once I arrived, he met with me and drove me to several places we discussed. Not once did he cause me to feel «I wish this guy would make up his mind.» What I am trying to say is that Tom acted like family. Tom Martinez, I thank you. I am proud to say that he is the first friend I made in this city that’s attacked seasonly by freakin’ crickets. He even entertained my rants about the crickets. Be blessed, my friend. John Martin has got to be the most patient, hard working and resourceful locator/​relator I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! He probably showed my GF and I 20 houses… in the current Austin market places go in less than 48 hours of being listed so he had to be available non stop around our hectic work schedules sometimes showing houses at 7am and sometimes 6pm through rush hour. He was always energetic, positive and helpful while not being pushy or too ‘sales guy’ like some. At one point we found a place not listed on his network via Craigslist and he encouraged us to take the place that was right for us regardless of if he would be compensated saying ‘I’ve done this a long time and it’s all karma… do the right thing and it always comes back to you. I want you to be in a place that’s right for you, don’t worry about me!’ WOW! As luck would have it we found a place a week later and move in October 1st to our DREAM rental. Thanks John, I know you’ll keep killin’ it and I’ll recommend you to ALL my friends and coworkers as long as your in the biz!

Just like many people said in their reviews below, I found my new apartment in a day thanks to Apartment Experts. I filled out the online form and received a call from Madeleine soon after, who was nothing short of amazing! She was very friendly and professional, and helped me find exactly what I was looking for price and location-​wise. Whenever you get tired of apartment hunting on your own for weeks, give this place a call! Bonus points if you ask for Madeleine — she made the whole process so easy!

Working with Jamie was wonderful! After my boyfriend and I tried looking for places on our own and had a not-​so-​great experience with another realtor, we gave Jamie a call and are so glad we did!
Jamie was prompt in her responses and listened to our needs in terms of budget, amenities and other «must haves» when looking for an apartment. She made us feel welcomed to Austin and even gave us greater insights and opinions into the neighborhoods we were looking at.

I was not looking forward to finding an apartment with an apartment locator service, as I had a not-​fantastic experience the last time I used one.
This experience was entirely the opposite. Jason Childs was our locator, and he was fantastic. The last locator I used seemed much more interested in sticking me in the biggest, most corporate apartment complex they could. Jason listened to what we had to say, found several nice places in our price range and in good locations, and drove us to the apartments. We found a perfect spot within a couple hours, and had a deposit down by the afternoon. He took care of all the logistics, so we only had to worry about liking the apartment or not. He was also a nice guy, cause that matters a lot.
I would absolutely recommend Apartment Experts to anyone looking for an apartment in Austin. Also, it’s free.

Jamie was so great to work with. Very prompt in her responses as we went back and forth in email and texting — and showed up right on time for our appointment. I felt like she wasn’t in a rush and really treated us as unique and individual clients as she showed us different options. I felt like she really paid attention to our needs and budget! We solidified our apartment with her and are excited for our move from Chicago to Austin and our apartment only added to that excitement!

While I didn’t actually end up getting an apartment with them (ended up using Airbnb because I needed something furnished) I still wanted to share my positive experience.
I filled out the form online and received a call within the hour from someone named Madeline. She was very friendly and helpful. She even helped me out with a few requests that weren’t even really apartment related… because of her generous service I decided to go ahead and write a review.
So yea, at the very least they were way more competent than the other finding companies I looked into.

Yuri was absolutely amazing! She is truly an apartment expert. My roommate and I walked into the office completely unsure of where we were going to be living. Yuri immediately presented us with multiple alluring options all within our price range and desired location and within three hours we had checked out the apartments and made our decision. She certainly knew the area very well and was highly helpful. I’m not one to typically write reviews, but in this case I would definitely recommend her to anyone and everyone looking for an apartment in the area.

Apartment Experts refreshes fake listings on Craigslist to get people to call them. These listings have beautiful pictures of apartments which are not available and haven’t been available for some time. Because I use Craigslist to do most of my housing searches (expecting the listings I find to be real) this costs me time as I get really excited about a listing — only to find that it’s from «Apartment Experts.»
This is an immoral and underhanded business practice. They may be effective, but I won’t be giving them my business.

My girlfriend and I would like to thank Jamie McKibbon for helping us find the perfect apartment! She was very nice, friendly, and most importantly helpful. She was very respectful of our budget and our needs and she showed us a great range of properties and helped us figure out what was best for us. Long story short, Gradon Barbee (with Apartment Experts/​A-​Plus Apartments) is the BOMB!
As a New Yorker moving to ATX, I was a bit overwhelmed and more than a little skeptical about this process. I mean, I’m used to paying slimy brokers a month’s rent to find me small apartments I can barley afford. This experience was the complete opposite!
Not only did Gradon call me within minutes of filling out the online form, but he continued to exceed my hopes and expectations throughout the entire process. I had 3 days to fly into Austin, see as many options as possible, and find the apartment of my dreams — and Gradon easily made it happen. He listened, asked the right questions, and understood very quickly what I was looking for. He met me straight from the airport, and took me to the first of several amazing options. Each one was better than the next.
He also was very patient — he took me back to revisit and compare different places, showed me new ones when I was still unsure, and even stopped to by me a Diet Coke when I mentioned that I had a headache and needed one. Super nice. And while I went in to the office for a few hours at my new job, he took my mom around to look at apartments — even though she’s not moving for several months. She’s planning to come back with my dad soon and wouldn’t work with anyone else.
Gradon is professional, super knowledgeable, and a wonderful advocate in finding the right place. Do yourself a favor and call him!

John Martin helped my wife and me with locating a place to move into with a specific /​picky set of requirements. He was constantly able to answer questions, sent listings that matched what we needed, and met us at different locations to show us a number of properties in very short order. The guy is awesome at his job and über-​attentive to detail!
Highly suggested and very professional, John’s one of a kind here in Austin when it comes to finding the perfect place. We’ll definitely be using him in the future as needed.

After a couple of weeks of attempting to reach Realtors and properties on my own, I succumbed to the realization that I’m more likely to find love on Tinder than I am an apartment on Craigslist. Not to mention the «rape and murder» risk is pretty much the same on both sites.
Early Thursday morning I filled out a web form on Apartment Experts’ website. By 9:30 a.m. I was talking to the fabulous Mary Lovell. She confirmed all of my worldly desires (well, at least domicile-​related) and told me to pop by her office at 11:30 a.m. to discuss what properties she found and ultimately go view some of them.
I’ll be honest, I’m horribly picky and quite fickle when it comes to my want/​needs. «Champagne dreams with beer money» pretty much sums it up. I came to Mary with a meager budget begging for some quiet corner of South Austin to call my own… complete with no carpet, dog park, proper kitchen, patio, all within a pretty limited geographic range… and under $ 900.
Needless to say, driving into the office I wasn’t all that optimistic. Mary wow’ed the socks off of this skeptic!
With only a short amount of time, Mary found more potential properties in a few hours than I had found in weeks of cruising all of the real estate sites. She took the time to call each one of the properties to ensure availability and obtained clarification on the amenities and cost. Mary took the time to thoroughly discuss the pro’s/con’s of each property and offered incredibly sound advice that helped us map out a strategic plan to tour desirable properties.
We hit the road by noonish to visit the most promising of the bunch. I have to admit, I was smitten with this location before we even got there. Had I been on my own, I would have probably handed this location all of my money. Pretty sure Mary saved me a lot of heartache… whilst meeting with the staff at this property, she asked a lot of the tough questions that I probably wouldn’t have thought to ask. She definitely proved to be an incredibly service-​oriented resource that put me and my needs first! There was nothing «wrong» with this property (we actually both agreed it was pretty keen), she just recognized that certain needs of mine would not be met at this particular location.
The second property we visited was nothing less than perfect. By 2 p.m. Mary was patiently standing by as I was filling out a rental application and putting a deposit on the perfect home for my fur-​family and I.
Mary accomplished more in a few hours than I had in weeks. Bonus points for being a genuinely professional and enjoyable person to work with! If you’re looking for a special home in South Austin, please consider giving Mary a ring! She’s a time-​saving, property-​hunting ninja!
