Holland Photo Imaging

It is worth it to send your film here. They do excellent work and have a reasonable price list. Especially useful given the dearth of labs elsewhere.

I’ve relied on the imaging services of Holland Photo a handful of times and they never disappoint. Quick turnaround time and friendly staff. Recommend for the photographers out there!

So drop off four rolls of film, 3 120mm black and white rolls, 1 roll 120 mm color slide film. The three B&W rolls came back good but the scans seemed like a child did them, they were crooked with film frames uneven. The slide film had a horrible green hue to to it, at first I thought it may of been a white balance issue, until I realized every single photo had this hue regardless of the color temperature I shot under. The when I received the processed films I realized they had crossed processed the slide film instead of receiving positive film the film was negative. Called them upon seeing this and was given a diatribe about how their processor has been working for them for many years and doesn’t screw up. I was told it must of been my fault and I don’t know what I was doing!
I can’t screw up developing film, because I gave it to them to do! The film package specifically said slide film/​transparency– the roll reiterated the same.

The owner, Brian was such a help! I had offered to help a friend whose family had been affected by the recent floods. I was thinking, clean up, clothing, furniture, money etc… Instead I was asked to restore some family photos that they had managed to salvage… somewhat. I was definitely out of my element, so I contacted Brian and he came to my rescue! Thank you Brian for your compassion and your rescue!

Yes, you can take ur photos to Walgreen’s – but if ur photos are truly important to you – you can feel assured that Holland will take great care of the precious moments you captured!

I used to frequent Holland Labs when they were situated on MLK at the end of Guadalupe and I was a starving young photography student. They were one of the two recommended labs in town for developing photos.
So when I needed some slides converted to JPEG files in a hurry, I wasn’t surprised when their name came up. I was a little bummed that I had to drive all the way to S. Lamar to find them, but such is the way of rising rents in Austin.
They’re now in a tiny space halfway down the row in a strip-​mall that looks rather industrial, but they’re worth the hunt if you need quality photo imaging at a reasonable price. They turned around my rush project in record time, as they give priority to items needed for memorial/​funeral services at no extra charge.
I took them two more non-​rush orders afterward, progressively larger each time, and each time, they came through with quality and on time as promised. There’s absolutely nothing fancy about their space, but their work is still outstanding.

I’ll be honest, I go here because it’s closer than Precision Camera. The prices are a TAD higher, but I figure I make up for it in the gas I save by not having to drive all the way up north to Precision.
Primarily I go here to get slides processed. Holland generally offers next day delivery of slides which is great. Sometimes though the wait is a few days, and I’ve never questioned this or been given any explanation. They will cut and mount slides if you ask, or just leave them as an uncut roll. Your preference, which is nice depending on what you plan to do with them (project or scan).
I did once get a disk with my slides — the roll had been scanned though I didn’t ask for the service. I didn’t complain because I had wanted to see how the scans here were anyway, but I’m generally not in the mood for surprises which cost me money. Keep in mind though I’ve been dropping off rolls here for years and this has been the only slip-​up on their part I can remember. So I cut them some slack — if it happens again I’ll have a problem.
The scans themselves were typical 24-​hour photo lab quality. Acceptable if you want to make a small print for the family photo album, or put a photo on flickr. But too low res for just about anything else. Maybe they offer higher res scans on request? I don’t know. If not I doubt I’ll be getting film scanned here in the future.
As others have mentioned, the film prices are also a little higher than at other places — but I figure again — I’d spend the difference if not more driving up to Precision — and if I want to buy a LOT of film I would just order it online anyway and save a bunch over either store. You have to pay a little for the convenience of having it now, rather than in a week.

Fantastic Local Business! Great service, wonderfully helpful staff and I always know that I will be well taken care of when I go to get photography work done there. I am very particular and I know that I can trust that they will be consistent with the quality of product every time and be able to answer any question I have. They never rush me in making choices between options as well, which I greatly appreciate. I have all of my printing done for shows and for clients here. As well I send my students to get there films processed here. Recommend: YES!

I get all of my film processed here, both 35 mm and medium format. They are always courteous and pleasant to deal with. They’ve got lots of options for processing and printing, along with some helpful services. I’ve done several very large prints on their Chromira with outstanding results Their communication is always great, if its phone calls or email, you will know whats going on with your order.
My only criticism is of their prices for film, quite high compared to most other places. They do stock a lot and properly refrigerate it, which is nice. If they did some price adjustments to be more competitive I’d be buying lots more product from them and not just using them for film development.

My go to photolab. I live in Albuquerque and ship my film out here to be processed. They know and understand film– to the point where if I accidentally mix different sheet films together in one box they can separate them in pitch black just by feeling the differences in the cut-​out notches. Now that’s expertise. As far as the west half of the US is concerned these guys are the best.

We just ordered six canvases and they came out amazing! Brian was patient and extremely helpful with his expertise. Makes SO much sense to stay local.

I would like to take the time to give a hearty endorsement to Holland Photo Imaging. Yesterday I uploaded an image to be printed. I hoped, that since they were local, it would just take a day or two for the print. I got an email confirming my order and that it would be ready by Friday. I emailed them back asking if there was any way it could be done sooner and explained why time was of the utmost importance (the print was for someone that was entering hospice care). Not only did they have it done by 4pm today, they waived the rush fee under the circumstances. I applaud them for their understanding and compassion. They have definitely gained a repeat customer. Thanks!

Awesome full-​service photo imaging and excellent customer service. If anything doesn’t turn out as expected, they are very gracious about redoing. I have been using them for the last few months and I am very pleased.

Though we have normally had a good experience, my most recent was less than acceptable. I needed photo prints for a hearing and submitted them on-​line on Sunday. I called on Monday morning and asked if I could have them on Wed in time for my hearing on Thurs. They promised the photos would be ready after 4pm on Wed. I arrived at 5:30pm on Wed and they were not ready and there was no record of my call or their commitment. I had to rush by Thurs morning before my hearing and I was almost late. They have contacted me several times in an attempt to rectify the issue. I understand errors are made, even I have made one or two, and maybe under the stress of the moment my initial review was a little harsh.

Honestly, my husband should review this place as he is the photographer. However, I went with him to get photos printed for Christmas gifts and picked the photos up myself. Have to say they turned out perfectly. The staff who helped us were friendly, patient (husband is a bit of a wordy fellow), and knowledgeable. Pricing was just right and everyone loved the photos.
We went to Holland because that is who used to do all the fancy photo printing when my husband was in college for Photojournalism and constantly processing film. Wouldn’t go anywhere.

My past Unilocal reviews will reveal a pattern of taking a more critical and honest look at businesses with little competition, inflated local reputation or consistent four– and five-​star ratings. I often use Unilocal reviews to help me find a place that’s the best fit for my needs. So I think that I owe it to anyone reading these reviews to grade a little harder if a place is getting straight A’s. It is in this spirit that I offer most «bad» reviews.
But with new information comes a need for updates! So, I do owe this place an updated review since receiving my finished order. In the end, I got online prices for my in-​store order, which was a nice gesture. I will certainly not make the mistake of coming into the store itself ever again, especially when I need no assistance from the staff in preparing my order. Particularly if you’re capable of getting your files print-​ready on your own, I’d encourage you to skip the headache of coming into this place as well!
That aside, what is most important to note here is that I had my numbers wrong… it’s a difference of $ 2 per print on my particular order in-​store as compared to online prices. While that is a lot more reasonable, it’s still putting our man’s time at a premium of about $ 120 an hour. Suppose it’s not my place to grudge a profit… maybe the place is looking to transition fully to online service to save overhead? Who knows. What I do know is that the pricing difference does seem to be (at very least) a convincing nudge in a certain direction.
Which brings me to the work itself. I didn’t need anything special for my purposes, and I would not characterize the prints I got as anything special. I should clarify that nothing was wrong with them — they were suitable. And getting my finished order back did afford me the chance to see some samples of other printing options available. The metallic prints look pretty glorious.
If you just want basic prints, I’d still say this place isn’t offering you anything extra that you can’t find at any other place that offers enlargements. But the other reviewers seem correct that most anything beyond basic is worth ordering here.
Just save yourself the bother and order it online!
Now, at this point, I’d be inclined to give the place three stars or perhaps even four if another visit confirmed the consistency of things. But I must finally fix my new rating at two stars because I still have serious misgivings about the type of customer service espoused by the owner of this place. It’s odd to me, as a customer, that he would message me privately via Unilocal to thank me for my business, politely inform me of my error and ask me to get back to him at my leisure… and then publicly imply that I’m purposefully distorting facts… essentially that I am inexplicably singling out his business among all others and lying to make him look bad. I find it odd to offer someone an opportunity for conversation in private and then call her a liar in public simply because you don’t think she’s fast enough at returning e-​mails. I’m afraid I still can’t give three stars. The mouse-​over says it all — I have experienced better.

Been having metallic-​finished prints made here for about a year. And the staff somehow manages to «nail it» just about every time. Rarely does anything ever have to be reprinted, and when it does. there’s never an argument about it.
Quality is great, pricing is very reasonable, work is ready very quickly, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. What’s not to love?!
