Jason has been involved in IT ever since he started installing commercial security systems years ago. He is also a Home Theater and Networking enthusiast. His partner Chris started in IT back in 1994 when he worked for Universal Computer Systems as a field tech. Today Jason and Chris are partners in AusTech Computer Services and really enjoy what they do. Jason and Chris are very hands on owners and are always happy to help in anyway they can.

First experience with them. Website says they do Macs. The guy (not the owner) didn’t seem to understand Macs well at all compared to the folks I’ve encountered at Mac-​specific shops, seemed very stumped by my Mac’s problem, and frankly sounded drunk on the phone when I called for the diagnosis. Weird, circular conversation as I sought recommendations about next step; he just seemed to want to say over and over that it couldn’t be diagnosed and how hard he’d tried with it, even though I wasn’t challenging any of that; I was just asking what our options were. I paid ‘em for an hour of bench time, picked it up and took it to Scott at Computer Medic, who communicated clearly and had it taken apart, tested and diagnosed in literally 5 minutes. The work from Austech will have to be redone, BTW, so that was a complete waste of time and $.
Follow-​up: Chris, owner, called me about this experience because of this review. Was respectful, apologized, said he’d worked on it too, and said it truly was exceptionally puzzling, and he offered to refund my $. He also had a guess as to why the staffer gave off a drunk impression. I’m bumping up this review from 1 from 2 stars – still a negative experience, but not as completely.

Last week was my first experience with Austech. My old Macbook was having major problems and I had a feeling that it was time to replace it. Within 24 hours of bringing it in I had my answer — my hard drive was crashing. It was not worth repairing and Chris walked me through the options I had. When I decided to purchase a new Macbook Pro through Best Buy because of financing capability, they were able to restore my data onto the new computer and had it back to me the same day as when I brought it in. For a small business owner that requires computer access daily this was fantastic! Thanks Austech!

I went to AusTech about two weeks back to get my MacBook Pro running like it did when it was a baby. I use it a lot for making graphics and illustrations. However, I’m still not computer savvy (my brother got those genes but lives far away) and they essentially cleaned it up for me. It’s running very well now and they had it back to me within 24 hours. Also, it was affordable enough that I felt like it would be silly not to have it done. I will go back to these guys in the future, most indubitably.

We first took our laptop to another repair facility that tried several fixes over a period of two months and would have charged $ 350 for replacing the motherboard if they had succeeded [a reasonable charge had a new motherboard been necessary].
When that didn’t work out, we took our laptop to Austech. Chris took a quick look and made some interesting initial observations. He said they would charge $ 40 to diagnose the problem and would have an answer by the end of the next day.
About two hours later, Chris called and said he had identified and fixed some minor problems and everything was working. He charged us $ 69 for one hour’s work and returned it to us on the same day.
Some might object that he charged $ 69 instead of the $ 40 agreed to, but who would spend $ 40 on diagnostics and then decline to spend another $ 29 for a successful repair. While he had the computer open, he fixed small problems that he saw, which is what I would have done, and he completed the task much more quickly than anticipated. I’m very happy with these excellent results.
Bottom line? Fast, courteous, effective.

I took my laptop in for a screen repair after attempting to fix it myself and I though I just purchased a generic, incompatible replacement. Turns out I should have taken it here first as I failed to drain the batter first and damaged my motherboard. Lesson learned for me. Seth worked with me from start to finish and provided excellent customer service. In the end I needed a new laptop and he even took the time to advise me about my next purchase. They were friendly and reasonable with their pricing. I’ll continue to use them in the future.

Update to my 11⁄24 review. Given the good reviews before, I was really surprised at my experience. The owner contacted me right after I posted. Extenuating circumstances I can believe doesn’t explain all the experience, but I believe he will be more involved and things may return to normal.

Chris was great to work with. I’m a software developer, so I normally do all the hardware work on my home systems myself, but when my gaming rig died I was just too busy to fool with it. I had ruled out power supply issues, so it came down to motherboard or video card. Chris identified the problem and did the work in about half the time I would have by myself. Both the motherboard and video card were fried. I knew what kind of video card I wanted so he recommend a really robust motherboard to match. There were no weird upcharges on the hardware, and he ordered it from the same place I would have. I basically paid for labor (his advice was valuable but free). His advice on the hardware specs cut down on the time I would have spent shopping for parts. He did everything I would have done, except faster, with better diagnostic equipment, and a bit more finesse. Well worth the money.

These guys are great! They have helped me out with lots of issues. Spills on the laptop, viruses, fan motor out. They always give impeccable service, never charge me with a bunch of add-​ons, and get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. I have been using them for 3 years and would and recommend them.

After installing Win 8.1 update on my Lenovo pc, my internet connection stopped working. The guys at Austech took two days to call me back, after saying they would call back with a diagnosis in hopefully 24 hours, but they were very busy. They didn’t show up at the time they said for me to pick up my computer, because everyone was working off-​site. So, I had to wait over the weekend to go back and pick it up. Since I had purchased the groupon, they offered me a product worth $ 5 more than the difference of the one hour of service. Really nice guys!

USE THE Unilocal DEAL @ TOP OF PAGE LIKE I DID $$$. I initially chkd out Austech bec they’re south & the reviews were great. Now I can say for myself that these guys ROCK! I had a feeling my old doorstop/​laptop was about to die. Brought it in for data transfer &repair estimates. I dropped it off right at closing time, but surprisingly wasn’t met with any dirty looks or heavy sighs! David patiently listened to hx of the clunker/​what i wanted done. Was called the next day before lunch that it was ready. Data was safely copied (before i could lose it, yay!) & recv’d a written estimate for repairs. The prices at Austech were very reasonable &my questions were answered without any attitude or condescension. I dealt w Chris, Jason & David @ different times during this transaction– found them all to be very knowledgable & courteous.

Been a loyal customer since 2011, when I brought in my old 2004 laptop. They cleaned it out, helped get it running better, and also helped me to find a new laptop by sending me different links from online sources! Once I purchased a new laptop I brought it in and they transferred over all my old data and installed new drivers, windows and office packages seamlessly.
These guys are more than helpful when it comes to computer issues! They have fixed my laptop, desktop, upgraded my Windows XP to Windows 7 for free, and also helped to get my laptop up and running again free of charge, after it crashed and wouldn’t turn on at all. They are very knowledgeable about computers, drivers, hardware and issues, and they have prompt and professional service.
Highly recommend these guys if you are looking for a good computer repair shop in South Austin!

Exceeded my expectations. I went in expecting a 5 star service and instead received a 5 + star service.
First of all they did a quality job bringing my computer back up to speed. It was running very slow, full of malware and spyware, and probably had a virus or two. It’s now even faster than when I bought it because the owner of the shop, Chris, upgraded my RAM for free. He also loaded some malware and spyware cleaning software and an antivirus software for free.
On top of the outstanding service, AusTech did this after honoring a misquoted fee from a new employee. So their new employee misunderstood the price of their Optimization service and gave me this quote over the phone, when I showed up to the shop the misunderstanding was recognized, one of their seasoned employees honored the original price (about 50% of the actual), and then went on to impress the heck out of me with their above and beyond service.

I contacted AusTech Computer Services after a quick Unilocal search and was initially impressed by the professional «can do» approach over the phone. There was no hesitation or weird tech guy attitude just a bring it by and we’ll see what we can do.
Chris took a look at my laptop and assessed that the «problem» was a little more involved than I had initially thought but he jumped right in and had the problem handled lickety split. My situation was a little bit off beat but Chris was honest with me and I felt he was ethical in the extreme.
I would feel confident sending any of my friends or business acquaintances to AusTech Computer Services. I know next time I need anything done that’s where I’ll be heading.

I am not happy with the service from this place. I called and told them what I wanted, I explained what I wanted when I delivered my laptop. I explained what I wanted 3 MORE TIMES after they kept calling during the week and a half it took to just upgrade my laptop to Win7. They even tried to get me to go buy my own software and bring it to them, days after I explained what I wanted and dropped it off! And it still wasn’t delivered as I wanted.
All I wanted was Win7 installed, didn’t care about any programs except the original Lenovo equipped stuff like the fingerprint scanner and my music, if they could save it. I was told: No problem. There’s no fingerprint scanner installed, my music is gone, and there are scratches on the lid of my laptop that were not there when I delivered it.
$ 256.00 for a Windows 7 upgrade, took a week and a half, and they didn’t do what they said.

Got great service from these guys. I took in a laptop that died without warning, and got a no-​BS appraisal of the situation. Though they could have made a lot more money charging me to replace the motherboard, they recommended buying a new laptop and transferring the data. When I brought the replacement laptop in, they got the work done in a day.
Their price was very affordable and they completely live up to their slogan: Cheap, Fast & Honest.

AusTech is great! I tried to fix my own laptop and failed miserably. I thought it was going to be an expensive fix, but luckily, it wasn’t so bad after all. Rhett and Jason run a Jobs/​Wozniak computer repair operation out of their garage and do a helluva job doing it! Both guys are easy to talk to and focus on getting you in and out asap with a good price. Jason told me they have stayed in their Manchaca house to keep costs down. Parking is almost rediculous but totally worth it to support a local owner operated business where the folks you talk to are the ones who will do the work and take responsibility for the results. Their motto is «cheap, fast, and honest» and they delivered. My job was simple, I needed a new power supply on my Dell tower, but I wouldn’t hesistate to bring them any level of repair, they seemed to really know their work.
