I struggled with nerve pain and damage in my foot for more than a decade. I’ve been to countless doctors with very little and definitely no permanent resolve of pain. Dr. Thomajan is one of the most compassionate and Brilliant doctors I’ve ever met. I’ve experienced several pain free weeks at a time and finally feel like I’m on the right path. He has given me options which I never felt that I had before. Doctors had only told me surgery or pain. The entire staff is compassionate, organized and is a pleasure to deal with. I would recommend anyone to go to Dr. Thomajan at Austin Foot & Ankle specialists. They have 2 locations where Dr. Thomajan and his team travel for the accessibility for their clients. I’ve been to both and have experienced the high quality of care at each location.

My wife had been to many doctors for nerve pain in her foot. She had experienced incredible pain for many years and had not been helped by the many doctors that she had been seeing. Dr. Thomajan has been extraordinarily helpful and has given her many options for pain relief. She has experienced many pain free weeks since beginning treatment at Austin Foot & Ankle specialists. Dr. Thomajan and his staff are extraordinary kind, professional and Incredibly educated in this specific area. I would recommend Dr. Thomajan at Foot and Ankle Specialist in either location to anyone interested in finally getting the care they deserve.

Dr. Shine John takes time to answer your questions, is down to earth, and truly cares. The entire staff creates an environment for the patient that is informative, empathetic, and caring. Every encounter with Monica, the surgeon coordinator, was a legendary customer experience in that she went the extra mile to give what I needed and was very helpful, caring, and thoughtful. While I have not yet had surgery, I left the appointment today feeling hopeful and that Dr. John was going to improve my life. Historically, experiences with other doctors and their office staff have been unpleasant, at best. The interactions with Dr. John and his staff have truly laid the foundation for hope and a healing experience.

I continue to appreciate the professionalism and skill of both Dr. Thomajan and his staff. And I continue to appreciate Dr. Thomajan’s practical, healthy, common sense and skilled approach. I know people who have gone to podiatrists where surgery was presented early on and as a cure all solution. Dr. Thomajan crosses all other bridges first and sees surgery as the very last option and only when absolutely necessary.

I don’t like Dr offices at all, but the staff at Austin Foot and Ankle have really taken care of me! I have been through few pretty serious procedures with Dr Shine John and his staff. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. Currently healing from a ruptured achilles tendon. I have found that all services we’re very fairly billed, and never felt rushed.
The team is great, and come highly recommended.

Unfortuntely, I cannot recommend Dr. Thomajan. He misdiagnosed a stress fracture and gave me an orthodic that made it far worse. He is looking to sell all types of trinkets to his patients at high prices. And most of all, he doesn’t seem to treat his employees with respect. I would definitely steer clear of his office and his PT department at Three Lakes Physical Therapy. One of his therapists, violently «adjusted» my foot and caused injury which Dr. T thought was unfortunate. He didn’t offer any help or compensation for my injury which has now turned into a year long ordeal.
On the other hand, Dr. John, is amazing and completely professional! If you get a chance to see him, it is worth it.

Dr. Thomajan and his staff are very professional. The office is very organized, and runs according to schedule. I appreciate how when I call, I always get to speak to a real person and am not forced to leave a message and wait for a call-​back. I always see the doctor when I am scheduled to (as opposed to having to wait past my appointment time). Dr. Thomajan surgically repaired my fractured 5^th metatarsal in August of 2014. His surgical work is precise and he does very exact and careful work. I was very pleased with how my surgery turned out. His course of treatment helped me to heal pain free and without complications.

I went to see Dr John for a sprained plantar. I was immediately impressed by his pleasant bedside manner and willingness to answer my plethora of questions. He recognized my need for detailed information regarding my diagnosis so he always spent as much time as necessary making sure all my questions were answered. He is incredibly knowledgable and the thoroughness of his explanations made me feel assured that I was getting the best care possible.
Dr John was also very understanding of my need to maintain a normal exercise régime and structured my recovery plan in such a way that I could, within reason, stay active. He made a point of getting me back to CrossFit as soon as possible and that for me was paramount.
Kudos to the rest of the staff as well. The group is well trained and are always on the ready with my insurance coverage information. They are consistently very professional, patient, and friendly.
I give Austin Foot and Ankle specialists my highest recommendation and suggest them for any podiatric need. EVERYONE should try and get their foot in the door ;-)

10-​year-​old son received under Dr. John’s care. We both agreed my son did not receive the quality care he should have and Dr. John apologized. Apologies aside, this is business and not personal. I use reviews to make many of my decisions regarding service providers. I truly believe people will benefit by being informed of this experience; I would have wanted to know. Below I contrast attributes of our current podiatrist at Capital Foot & Ankle (CFA) with our past experience at Austin Foot & Ankle (AFA): 1) CFA — Clear communication, measured and specific strategies from doctor to quickly get him back to health VS. AFA — 4+ months of ineffective laser treatments followed by painful, ineffective bleomycin shots; 2) CFA — Focused, hands-​on and engaged doctor VS. AFA — How many more laser treatments if I hadn’t said «enough is enough, it’s not working»? How was progress ever measured/​evaluated/​re-​evaluated? Rarely did doctor treat my son (or daughter), an assistant did (but Byron is great w/​kids!). Mostly Dr. John popped in last few minutes of appointments for a status check after assistants evaluated and treated; 3) CFA — Demonstrated respect so that son felt safe, cared for, and cared about VS. AFA — Son felt scared, ignored and that Dr. John didn’t care he was hurting him w/​shots (very upsetting as a parent to watch the way this went down); 4) CFA –Planned pain mgmt for my son following treatment as well as at-​home instructions for care VS. AFA — Received no pain mgmt, no at-​home care directions and no followup from Dr. John. (Bleomycin is a cancer drug that causes intense pain in adults for weeks; it was shot into my son’s toes and bottom of foot in addition to intense numbing shots.) My son developed a staph infection in his foot within days. His foot was in such bad shape from extensive numbing shots that swelled his foot, bleomycin shots that caused blisters even in areas not related to warts, and an awful staph infection. We switched to CFA a few weeks ago after 4+ mos, $ 2052 of wart «destruction» and a lot of pain at AFA. We were simply no closer to a healthy foot than when we started. We’ve only had two visits at CFA — as the foot needed time to recover from the last visit at Dr. John’s — but as I pointed out above, the difference is substantial. Our new podiatrist even went so far as to show us how she checked her prescribed antibiotic against his type of infection to make sure effective. She took pictures of his foot and measured his warts. She engaged with our son in a kind, caring way and checked in w/​him throughout a painful process. She gave him pain meds if he needed it and gave us clear instructions on how to care for his foot. I have every faith she’ll get this all wrapped up in 1 – 2 more visits. FINALLY! (Since APRIL!!)
A lot of confusion regarding billing… asked for summary of accounts after receiving conflicting /​inaccurate data from an in-​office printout and communication from billing staff. After 5 weeks of multiple requests, we were given a convoluted, inaccurate summary of accounts that took hours to sort and cross-​check with insurance/​bank records. I advise you to carefully review charges each visit. We were billed differently for same services and overcharged/​double billed! Three of our payments weren’t applied. There’s shifting of money, diff charges for same services, and it’s hard to track after-​the-​fact. They fixed the problem but it took 8 weeks and lots of our time. They said it was their new billing system. And, in doing this little project, we realized we were billed ~$ 4100 (~$ 1500 of it out-​of-​pocket) over the course of a year for inserts, wart treatments and some blisters/​calluses shaved, almost entirely working with an assistant, not the doctor. I’m not sure this is reasonable for what we received.

Best team in town. I would recommend them to anyone with foot or ankle issues. They are extremely talented and knowledgeable.
The first doctor I went to with my broken foot told me that I was fine, no surgery and put me in a cast for 3 weeks. After 3 months of pain I was referred to Dr. Thomajan. He said I should have had surgery immediately after the break instead of a cast!
He knows exactly what he is doing and has a super great attitude every time I see him.

I went here for several months to deal with some foot pain.
The two main women who work the front desk were annoyingly polite. They would ask me how I was doing when I walked in the door, and then again 30 seconds later when they escorted me back to a room. Seriously, they need to chill out.
Dr. Shine struck me as very intelligent and committed to my healing. But I called once when I was having complications and asked if I could speak to Dr. Shine. I was told he was too busy that day because he had back to back patients. I asked the receptionist what I should do, and started to describe my symptoms to her. She then said I needed to come in immediately and that Dr. Shine could see me later that afternoon. If Dr. Shine doesn’t want to talk to patients on the phone as a matter of policy, that’s fine and his choice. But don’t have your receptionists lie to me and tell me your unavailable to talk that day, and then tell me in the same conversation that you can see me in person later that afternoon.

Right now they are offering 35−40% off their sandals for men and women, a very nice selection. These are no ordinary flip flops, it’s therapeutic foot wear!

Thomajan is the best foot doctor that I’ve ever been to. Most podiatrists are glorified technicians who do minor foot surgeries and make orthodics. This guy also happens to be a Nerve Specialist who trained under the famous Lee Dellon. I’m a nurse who is on his feet 12 grueling hours a day and Thomajan is the only doctor to come up with solutions to allow me to deal with the Tarsal Tunnel pain that I have.
I can’t say enough good things about this doctor. Personable, professional, and knowledgeable.

I’m normally not one to go out of my way to write a review online, but I thought in this case it would be worth my time. Even though I’m only 24, I’ve had moderately severe bunions since I can remember (thanks to my mother!) and they were only getting worse. Over the past two years the pain had just become too much for me to tolerate anymore — I couldn’t go on a run without sharp shooting pains forcing me to stop and limp back home, I would wake up with my feet aching, walking was painful, etc. I came to see Dr. Thomajan about 8 months ago and immediately felt at ease when he sat down and talked to me about my options. We discussed both non-​surgical and surgical routes, and I ultimately decided to have surgery to fix the problem once and for all so I could be pain-​free. It takes a lot of trust to let someone cut you open, shift your bones around and screw them back together — but I felt extremely comfortable with letting the good doctor do so. I’m now one month out of my second surgery with him and my feet are looking and feeling wonderful.
Dr. Thomajan truly cares about his patients, which is something I can’t say about all doctors — and I’ve seen a lot. After my second surgery, I called up to his office after hours about some concerns that I had and Dr. Thomajan personally called me back that evening to discuss what was going on. After each surgery, he has seen me frequently afterwards to take follow up x-​rays and monitor how my feet have been healing, answering any and all questions honestly and thoroughly. Yeah, he’s a busy man (with good reason), but no matter how many people he has to see that day, he still takes the time to talk to you one on one. The best part is that he has a great sense of humor and I’m able to joke around with him, which makes visits that much more enjoyable! Not only is Dr. Thomajan great, but so is his whole office. They remember your name and are so sweet and welcoming. I brought my mother to my first appointment, and they continue to ask about her and how she’s doing at following appointments — for some reason I really appreciate the thoughtfulness. I’m so glad that I found Austin Foot and Ankle — it has changed my life. If you’re wondering if you should pay them a visit, you shouldn’t hesitate. Thanks, Dr. T!

I am a big fan of this office! I am recouping from my second foot surgery with Dr. Thomajan and I have to say, I love THE WHOLE OFFICE STAFF!!! It’s rare that you find a group that is so cheerful, caring and knowledgeable, all working together and that is what I have found in this office. My feet look beautiful and with little or no pain as promised.
I know I will be on the running path not long from now Happier and Healthier than before

I feel that Dr. Thomajan is too rushed. I just came back from a second opinion as I wasn’t feeling good about my diagnosis from Austin Foot & Ankle. Dr. Thomajan spent about 3 minutes with me telling me I had plantar fasciitis, which I’ve had in the past and wasn’t feeling like this was the same thing. But he was confident, in a hurry, didn’t listen to me, and rushed me out to physical therapy. And as I type this, I’m in an orthopedic boot for 6 – 8 weeks because I actually have posterior tibial tendon dysfunction! WAY different! And could be looking forward to surgery. Had Dr. Thomajan took the time to listen to me and do x-​rays I wouldn’t be in this predicament.
So, 1 star is being generous considering…

Let me preface this with the fact that I have been to two other Unilocal top rated podiatrists and had zero results.
I broke my foot in 2010, and both of the podiatrists I went to seemed disinterested and in a rush to get me out the door. They gave me an air cast, and told me to keep off it. 3 years later it still hadn’t healed properly and was seriously altering my way of life.
Finally as a last ditch effort I decided to try out Austin Foot & Ankle Specialist. Right away I could tell that this place was different. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Dr. Shine John is the man who has finally helped me get my way of life back. At our first visit, he found more about what was actually causing my issue than everyone before him.
We attacked the issue aggressively, using everything in his know how to avoid surgery. But unfortunately, the issue was too big and surgery was indeed needed.
Instead of waiting years for results as previous, in the three months time from my first visit, I finally was able to get my foot fixed once and for all.
He was there to help me every step of the way (puns are awesome!), he was very helpful and reassuring through the whole process, making sure everything was okay at every turn. He even called the day after my surgery personally to make sure I was alright.
It’s been a month since the surgery and I am finally able to start walking again. I am finally starting to get some of my independence back, and it is amazing. Starting PT next week, and I am so thankful to Dr. John and his staff. I have been there over a dozen times and called/​been called by them double that and not once did they have any attitude other than the same cheery helpfulness since the first time I walked into the office.
TLDR: The staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. They use state of the art procedures and equipment, and are devoted to getting you healed. I wish I could give this place ten stars!

I am totally impressed with the services of Dr. Shine John. I was told a year ago that I had a ganglian cyst on my foot and I went to him to get it removed. His prudent option was to do an MRI first to «map out a plan» for surgery. Much to our surprise, it wasn’t a ganglian cyst and I don’t need surgery. Too many surgeons would have cut first, only to find out, at my expense, what he discovered ahead of time.
I appreciate it when a doctor places my best interests first.

I’m not a fan of the doctor but after having severe foot pain for several months and tired of being in that situation I made an appointment at Austin Foot and Ankle. My only issue was that they couldn’t see me for two weeks and the thought of being in pain for that much longer really didn’t sit well with me. When the day came I arrived and was greeted by the friendly staff and then ushered back to my room.
You can tell this place is busy as it took a few minutes to be seen but the PA was extremely professional and I even mistook him for the doctor for a moment. They did some X-​rays and gave me some tools to help mitigate the pain over the next few weeks. It would have been really easy for him to just give me a shot and send me on my way but he actually wanted to try a non medicated approach first and its a refreshing change.
After a few weeks the pain had decreased and he gave me a shot to help get me to the finish line. Its been a month now and I’m still not having any major pains. I really can’t thank Dr Thomajan enough and if I ever have another foot problem again I wouldn’t hesitate to visit him again.
