Simply put: shooting is a skill. Why waste time learning incorrectly… when you can get professional instruction that puts you on the road for success. I took a one-​on-​one lesson from Kent and highly recommend him. He took the time to learn where my skill level was and taught from there. He didn’t talk over me, and I felt a lot more confident with my brand new (out of the box) revolver.

I really wish there was a 6 star option. This review pertains to my recent 3hr private lesson with Kent Morrison of BSG…
BEFORE
Get out gun, start shooting at target. First shot BULLSEYE. Progressive shots wander and drift. I try to «aim» better with moderate success. Next time at the range the process starts all over.
AFTER
Stance? check
Grip? check
Relax shoulders? check
Bring gun to eye? check
Pad of finder on trigger? check
Slow pull? check
Release to reset? check
Hit target in the zone? check
Repeat, repeat, repeat
By the end of my lesson I was consistently drilling the target at 15yds and I absolutely positively have the tools to take this to the range on my own the next time and repeat.
I highly recommend you take a lesson from these guys… they are awesome!

I’ve taken two courses through BSG Services and found both to be absolutely invaluable. Kent is professional, knowledgeable and very experienced. Every class I take is not only fun, but very practical. I appreciate the classroom structure of learning the technique, practice, then discuss. I can’t say enough about these classes. Niki and Carrin are great coaches as well, knowledgeable and easy to learn from. Always great personalized advice for my personal growth.

I have taken several training classes from BSG and each time I learn so much, but more importantly, I gain more confidence after each class as my abilities improve. I don’t know how Kent does it without going crazy! He takes ladies from Sure Shots and teaches them the basics starting with safety. Safety is foremost with each class. I took my first class April 2013 and have come a very long way thanks to Kent and Niki from Sure Shots. Kent has a great way with teaching ladies how to shoot and use defensive techniques; I don’t know where he gets his patience from. I recently took a conceal carry tactical class and learned real world threat situations and how to draw from concealment as we are moving back away from the threat. It was intense, but so much fun! I highly recommend BSG and Kent Morrison if you want to start from the beginning and move up through any level of training. Each exercise we learn, Kent shows us how to, explains how and why, and we follow suit. He works with us until we get it. I CAN do things I didn’t think possible once upon a time. Thanks Kent, you rock!

Simply put, BSG Security is the best.
It’s one thing to own a gun, quite another to know how to use it. Kent Morrison and the instructors at BSG are professional, knowledgeable, and patient. They are serious about skill and safety. If you want to demystify the whole gun thing and get over your fear, here’s my recommendation…
(1) Ladies first: Show up at one of Sure Shots two locations and let Niki Jones (SS founder and a BSG instructor) help you get started with the right gun rental (or bring your own). The friendly women in this group range from newbies to experienced.
Men: Get in touch with Kent at BSG to practice a bit before step #2. Or, if you’re the kind of person, male or female, who just wants a private lesson with BSG to get started, that’s fine, too.
(2) Once you can hit a decent pattern on a target (which won’t take long), get your Concealed Handgun License. BSG offers an outstanding course.
(3) «Like» both BSG and Sure Shots on Facebook and you will learn about all their amazing classes. Take them… take as many as you can.
(4) My promise to you: You will become confident and proficient in handling a firearm. You will learn how to protect your family. You will become the real «first responder.»
(5) Oh, and you’ll have fun… lots of fun.

I recommend BSG’s Defensive Tactics course lead by Kent Morrison (BSG) and assisted by Nikki Jones (Sure Shots) in an instant to anyone who wants honest real life experience self defense training. Not only did I take away knowledge to defend myself, but I participated in hands-​on tactics to disarm a weapon, get out of multiple compromising situations, and optimal ways to flee from an attacker to safety. By far the most important thing I learned from Kent and Nikki was the importance of the «Never Give Up» psychology in relationship to predatory/​criminal psychology. I experienced the benefit from the Q&A discussions that touched on situations I had not thought of without being in a group environment. Five hours may seem like a commitment for one day, but it is well worth the time, and energy spent. Since the class, I have been practicing defense tactics at home. I have become more observant, and trusting of my instincts in my everyday life which in turn have gained peace because I am developing defense skills and becoming prepared.

I became acquainted with BSG through the Austin Sure Shots. Kent and BSG are firm supporters of the Sure Shots, providing information and assistance in a straight-​forward, no-​nonsense, and easy to understand manner. A course in Defensive Tactics was offered, and I immediately jumped on the opportunity. This is the first course I have taken with BSG, and it will not be my last!
BSG’s Defensive Tactics is a 5 hour course that involves discussion around a defensive mindset, practical application, talking through your personal «nightmare» scenario and ways to either avoid or get out of it, and finally reviewing some of the penal code specific to defending oneself or a third person. I have taken other self-​defense type classes before, but nothing like this. The difference is the sincere commitment to teaching one to remain safe. This is not a «go through the motions» class, and it is worth every penny. I have been replaying options and scenarios in my mind since Sunday’s class. All of my girlfriends that I’ve discussed the class with are interested in taking it!
This class is well worth your time and money to learn some techniques that could very well make a huge difference in your life and well-​being. After all, the bad guys don’t work around YOUR schedule.

I’ve been around firearms my entire life, but didn’t really get into shooting or even interested in owning one myself until a few years ago. One thing I remembered from my concealed handgun (CHL) class was that becoming and remaining comfortable with any weapon requires constant learning and practice. So when the opportunity to take «Defensive Pistol 1» appeared on my Facebook wall (thanks to my connection with Austin Sure Shots), I jumped at the chance!
First, I simply cannot say enough about Kent Morrison (BSG) and Niki Jones (Austin Sure Shots) — the fearless leaders of our class. Even though I was aware that they were both extremely knowledgeable and passionate about … well … everything related to firearms, training, coaching, learning, protection, defense … (you get the point), I walked away from DP1 with an even greater admiration for their abilities and desire to share their knowledge with others.
Second, the limited class size was just perfect and provided a superb opportunity to receive the right amout of constructive criticism and practice. (As a strong proponent of applied techniques, I believe that hands-​on training is the key to retention.) I also enjoyed being able to watch my fellow learners and participate in the peer-​coaching activities. Not only did I become better at identifying my own strengths and weaknesses, but I was able to hone in on the pros and cons of others who were in the same boat. The environment was relaxed in the sense that I felt comfortable with my instructors and the rest of the ladies in my class, but formal enough that safety was NEVER on the back burner.
Third, the information was presented in a very logical order, and we were allowed to work on specific techniques without worrying about whether we hit a certain spot on the target. Being able to build upon skills in a layered manner makes it easier to remember — much like building a house on a foundation makes it easier to keep standing. :)
All in all, I had a terrific day! I cannot wait to participate in future BSG courses!

Up until recently, I had never handled a firearm and as a native Texan that just seemed wrong. A friend took me out to the range and wouldn’t you know it; I was hooked!
Since these are guns we’re talking about and not just another hobby that I can pick up from reading tons of articles online (ask me how to brew kombucha and you can too!) I wanted some professional instruction on the matter.
I found out about a defensive pistol course offered by the BSG through the Austin Sure Shots. I wasn’t sure if it was the right course for such a newbie, but it turned out to be the perfect thing. The day long class started with the basics, like stance, and added one new technique each time we’d line up to practice. They are committed to helping you get comfortable and proficient with a firearm and safety is their first, second, and third priority (and probably every odd number after that). By the end of the day I could shoot out the bull’s-eye, clear jams and reload quickly. I’m still working on my basic skills, but when I’m ready for another round of training I won’t look any further than the BSG. Everyone I’ve met with their group has been so great and helpful.
Classes are just one of the many services that the BSG offers, but I know they’ll shoot ya’ straight, whatever your needs may be.

I’m a gun phobe as you can tell by my avatar… oh wait, you CAN’T tell? Well, that’s only because these big-​hearted special ops, security teddy bears helped me overcome my fears at a cancer charity fundraiser. They selflessly volunteered their time and expertise (and weapons) on a Sat afternoon, a rainy, muddy Sat afternoon to teach noobs like me how to handle a weapon. They let us pick from an array of their own guns for us to shoot. Being gun ignorant, I’ll just say they had big guns, little guns, automatic rifles, AK’s, handguns with silencers and long range sniper rifles. Yeah, these are the guys you want to have on speed dial for the Zombie Apocalypse.
I’ll be honest. I had very little intention of shooting a gun while there. I’m not only scared of them, but the whole idea of shooting a bunch of rounds at a target kinda bores me. I never was into video games either. My only intention for my donation was to get my picture taken with a big gun. But, reconsidering that I might never have another opportunity to shoot a big gun, I nutted up, so to speak. I randomly picked an automatic rifle that they said had little kickback and was escorted thru the slippery mud by BSG man Levi. He carefully told me how to hold the gun properly, leaning into the stock, sighting my target and then taking off the safety and firing. I decimated that little paper man with head shots, chest shots and groin shots (don’t EFF with me!!). And while I don’t think I’ll be volunteering for the army, it was pretty exhilarating feeling that little power rush that comes from handling a powerful gun (insert penile joke here). Levi even thoroughly instructed me on how to pose with a gun for my picture. Safe to say, he knows all things guns.
Hubby got to shoot Bill’s huge long range sniper gun, with bullets the size of a Snickers bar. He was able to get some very accurate shots from 75 yards under Bill’s tutelage. Hubby definitely had gun envy.
I don’t know how many charity events these guys do, but I felt like this was one of the most unique fundraisers I’d ever been to and a lot of money was raised for a good cause as even with the inclement weather, folks poured in to shoot big guns. Looking at their website, they do offer team building events tho which could be fun, although if I did this with MY co-​worker, I’m sure there’d be a Dick Cheneyesque «accident». Hmmm, maybe I should look into it…
