This place reminds me of those old skool shotgun homes in new orleans(here’s your lesson for the day: ) cuz it just goes on and on. Interesting because it allows two distinct sections in a relatively small place. Started the night with a just a couple of friends in the back(front?). There is a small pillar in the center of the room which is odd, except that it could act as a pole(so Ive heard ;) but lots of room to dance. In the middle there is a random arcade game(wtf!?), then a nice large bar and dancefloor in the front(back?) DJILLWILL was playing that night and I dug him. Most everybody there was getting there groove on the tunes were so good. Granted, people would stop and sit and grab a drink and such, but it was nice and active. A pretty large group of us closed that bad boy down. My apologies to the bar guy who had to clean up the two tequila shots i deliberately dumped out on the floor(I’m pretty good at «faking the taking» of the shots if situation calls for it). I’m not one to turn down free drinks usually, but two tequila shots at 1am is never a good idea.

Is this place new? I caught two different shows here during SXSW, and it wasn’t such a bad spot. Perhaps Back Alley Social caters mainly to the hip hop crowd? I dunno, but both times I rolled through, I stuck out like a sore thumb, for sure. In fact, the two showcases I caught were both hip hop showcases, so perhaps I answered my own question… It’s a bit nifty how the front door is actually the back door, and vice versa. I’m all about the back door action(not that kind), so I think it’s kinda cool. Doesn’t look like there are any upcoming shows rolling through… not sure why.
