This is literally the sketchiest place I have ever been to. I actually saw people doing the deed on the couch for over 2 hours(how does this happen?) There is no way the staff didn’t see this business going on. There was seriously nasty stuff going on ALL over this bar. The clientele ranged from sketchy to downright terrifying. Hang on to your purses ladies. Steer clear of this bar.

The Whisky still rocks! We shot a music video in there on Saturday night and the crowd was great. Kudos to the manager and bar staff, they handled the packed crowd very well. Big rpops to DJ Diamond Tip for spinning some crazy jams, keeping the crowd interested all evening. Good luck to you Poise and your upcoming videos — shout out to the Infynit crew!

What happened Whisky Bar? I used to patronize on Thursday nights for $ 1 drinks and a good show. I tried again after a year or so and where did the magic go? Either they did away with $ 1 special or the rude bartender overcharged me. And that crowd, my Lord.

I went here on Girls night out with my BF’s brothers GF if that makes any sense. We went to see Dj Numark from jurassic five. Seven bucks people for a great show… you cant beat that with a stick. The drinks well it took forever to get em… and the waitstaff in the back at least looked overworked. I dont like standing in lines ever… so getting drinks was rough. I made friends with the bartender however and eventually ended up doing shots of goldschlagger(hello teenage drinkers) and drinking cheap beer untill closing. No one dances in texas… which is strange coming from SF where everyone thinks it dance america every party. But there was a whole lot of whooping and yelling and merriment in general. Which I can get down with no problem. Over all the experience was pretty typical… I liked the music, and I dont live ini Austin so Im not sure if Id go back. Fun for a girls night out… I love the back bartender… girl you are crazy!!! Three stars for goldschlagger to top off my buzz.

I only go to the Whisky for 2 reasons. I have a friend there that tends bar, and they often host DJ’s that are bad-ass and/or nationally touring. The back room is nice and dark and usually has good music to drink to. Good place to go if your date needs to get better looking, fast. I’ve never seen anyone having sex upstairs there(maybe a make-out session or 2), but that would be funny to come up on. No pun intended. The crowd on Thursdays($ 1 well night till 11pm), and perhaps most of the week, tends to run really young. Makes me feel a bit old and out of place, but what can I say. I suffer for cheap drinks and DJs.

The back area is my favorite, as well as the upstairs nook-type area. The front is WAY too loud. I do like that you can sort of escape from the loud craziness on a crowded night by going to these areas. It’s still loud, but if I raise my voice, I can carry on a conversation with my friends. It’s really crowded at times but not as bad as other bars. The service remains quick and friendly no matter how many people are there. Their drinks are pretty reasonably priced and very strong. I’ve never had a badly-made drink there. It’s probably my favorite place to get liquored up and dance like a fool.

I think my ambivalence about writing a review for this place denotes the ambivalence I feel for this place. To sum things up, this place is okay. As other reviewers have suggested, the bar technically has two parts to it(three if you count the upstairs). It is split into the front and the back portions with totally different vibes. The drinks are usually on the weak side, so if you go, get a bottled beer. You’re at least guaranteed a certain amount of alcohol per beer that way.

Ok. Thursday night’s $ 1 well drink special merits two stars. Seriously, that’s amazing — but to be honest, the mixed drinks were so weak, it was *just* enough to maintain my slight buzz, until the special was over, then they were pouring halfway decent drinks. The place itself is ok décor wise, but, IMO, the music sucks on a regular night. And that music attracts people i don’t like. Thankfully, the music I heard when I went to Whiskey Bar was music a friend was playing. I would never go here unless I had a friend playing there — $ 1 drink specials or no.

I love Whiskey Bar. Their drinks are always great. Their Thursday night drink special(which starts at 10 pm) is unbeatable and the DJs always seem to play great music.

I’ve been in this place alot over the years, and I always have a good time. Sometimes they have live music, though most of it is pretty low quality. I’ve seen DJ’s here too, and most of those are better quality. The service here is pretty decent. The atmosphere is pretty decent. The vibe here is … well … pretty decent. I don’t hate the joint, nor am I in love with it. however, when hanging out here with someone who you have recently moved from angering accidentally on the internet to getting to know a little bit better, stay away from the«Friendship Shots». The hangover in the morning is a beast. Plus, I think that Cati just made up the name«friendship shots». They did get the job done.

I like the Whiskey Bar, because it has a little something for everyone. A cool lounge up front, with live music, great DJ’s in the back for dancing. I generally find myself in the back room where the DJ is. And, I actually prefer the lounge area when they don’t have a band, because it gets so loud! Here’s a tip: don’t go in through the front door, go around back to the alley and go in through the back room where the DJ is. The line is never as long and sometimes they don’t charge cover.

Honestly? If I could do it, I’d probably hover this place around a 3.5 star count: a thin shotgun style bar, my very best times here have been before they got busy(warning to those allergic to crowds: this sucker gets crowded and stays crowded). Whisky Bar is kind of a two bar in one setup, narrow frontside, multi-level back end, each with it’s own scene. It can be a hit or miss proposition, and the sensitive to music level types likely may find it loud. But to that end, Whisky Bar has apparently been attempting to rehab its image through booking top-shelf DJ talent… the kind that just might make you forget about your personal space.

This place is a little more mid-20s than 21st birthday, which is nice, sometimes. The drinks are a little pricey, but again, that happens in a mid-20s place. Whiskey Bar is divided into 2 rooms, and the first is more of a semi-swanky bar area, and the back room has loud, highly-danceable music, including a lot of mashed up top 40 and hip hop, which is fun. there isn’t a ton of room to dance, but that’s kind of nice, because it’s less intimidating that way, when you and your friends aren’t alone on a distant dance floor. Also in the back are tiny little half-moon tables that are so cute, but kind of useless because you can’t talk in the back room. Before it gets too crazy on weekend nights, the bartenders are happy to discuss the merits of their fancier drinks with you and recommend things. Their speciality drinks are creative and delicious.

This is an interesting bar, in the sense that upon walking in, you can tell the entire«vibe» was constructed by the owners for the patrons and not the other way around. This is worth noting since so many of Austin’s best nightspots are great because they take on the persona of those that stop by. The Whisky Bar is, nonetheless, an enjoyable place to go have a drink or 10. There is a dance floor that is strangely placed by the front door. There is a long bar down one side and booths down the other. Even at it’s most crowded, the Whisky staff serves a pretty quick drink as long as you aren’t waiting behind some dorkus ordering something with 20 different ingredients. Also, this is where Jessica Simpson had her Bachelorette party, in case you care.

This place has a bit of an identity crisis. The first room is completely open, with red booths welcoming your butt to come sit down. You can have a couple of drinks here and not even notice that in the back room, there’s a party-a-brewin’. Too bad the crowd was not just my type, and a little too indie for me to feel comfortable. I am sure it can be great for a lot of people, but I would rather end up at the Dizzy Rooster. –Matt

not bad. I tell you the dancefloor doesn’t make sense being by the door, but it’s a step up from the stage they had before. Their soundsystem has improved this year too. A fun time will be had there on a weekend.
