Bark ‘N Purr Pet Center

This place used to be awesome. They had staff members that were helpful and answered all of my questions. Now the people who work there are clueless about pets and the products they sell. Also, it’s frustrating that they keep rearranging the store. I go by every 2 weeks and each time I can’t find the cat food. Hopefully they’ll improve, but for now I’m going somewhere else.

Always happy to support a local spot, especially when it comes to pet goods, I was eager to pay Bar ‘N Purr a visit when we were in need of a humane bark collar. Quality local pet stores that outfit all the pet needs (not just sweaters and boutique items), I feel, are hard to come by. So, I was elated to be welcomed by rows and rows of every pet necessity — leashes, harnesses, shampoos, collars, toys, food, etc!
As any locally owned shop would go, there was nothing in great quantity, but certainly in quality; however the most impressive takeaway from our visit was the service. Walking us through our purchase of the bark collar and really understanding where we were coming from made for a sure fire purchase. The sales person even seem to be knowledgeable about our specific breed of dog and why she barks so incessantly. Being able to relate on this matters is always more comforting, as well.
Sure, the prices can reach the steep zone, but you really will find almost everything you need and your money is going to support a local business.

This is my favorite dog store of all time in Austin.
They have an amazing selection of treats, toys, and dog food. They even carry Zignature Kangaroo!!! Woot.
They even deliver for free if you live in the designated zones.
What my favorite things are about this place is that
1. You can return the dog food if at least 50% is still there. This is particularly nice because my dog went through a phase where he was super picky and didn’t like anything we got for him.
2. They have corn, wheat, and soy free dog cookies! I love being able to treat my allergy ridden dog to a dog cookie that he drools over and never got to eat.
3. They open super early!!! We have run out of food at night and made an early morning trip to pick up some dog food. I love that they open at 7am and it’s been a life saver for us.
We love this dog store so much that when we ran out of dog food on the way back to SF from Houston, we drove through Austin so we could stop here because we knew they would be open and carried the brand we like.

I can’t get enough of this place, I just wish I lived closer — oh wait, not to fear, they DELIVER!
What I have to say I was MOST impressed by when I came to this store was the amount of knowledge that *EVERY* member of staff had about everything. Usually you go into a pet store & they know where things are but have no opinion or knowledge of the product or which is best. I’ve been to places and explained I need a food without ANY chicken or grain in it and they lead me to a food with chicken fat, etc. etc. Those type of situations will make me leave a store. Bark ‘N Purr goes above and beyond to be knowledgable about everything they carry and to find what is best for your pet. I couldn’t be happier. Be sure to take the time to stop by and visit them, with your pup, they have great samples for them to try and great people for you both to meet!

I had a million two questions when needing to change my pups food/​feeding style. The staff at Bark N Purr stayed patient and answered a million three of my questions. They are all up to date on their product info, patient, and friendly. It is now the only place my family shops for our pups.

Bark N Purr saved me a fortune. I had two separate but important issues that needed to be dealt with and my approach (throw money at them) would have cost me about $ 100 more.
I conferred with the sales people at Bark N Purr and walked out with products that should do the job, but if they don’t, Bark N Purr will refund me.

I have been very impressed with Bark ‘N Purr each time I’ve gone in. When I adopted a kitten from the Humane Society, I received a certificate for a free bag of small cat food at Bark ‘N Purr. The certificate is good for any brand of cat food, except for Science Diet. All that really good, high quality cat food? You can totally get a small bag for free!
I selected a brand, Whole Earth Farms, that I thought my new kitty would enjoy and that I knew I could regularly afford. For months, I have been wanting to switch my two older cats to a better food. I’ve been feeding them IAMS Healthy Naturals since I’ve had them, but felt I could really find something better. Price was a definite concern — for $ 12, I could get the usual 5 pound bag of IAMS, and I was always afraid that making a switch would strain my minuscule budget. (Not that I don’t want my cats to eat the best food — I definitely do — but I’m a social worker with a tiny budget, so I bought the best I could afford.)
Bark ‘N Purr has changed my entire perspective. Whole Earth Farms is only a couple of dollars more expensive than the IAMS I was previously buying. I was so excited. Here was a better cat food with better ingredients AND it will fit in my budget. I only wish I had figured this out sooner. They have several other brands that look awesome and that an employee told me all about, so maybe if I ever get a better job, the kitties can get another food upgrade. So far, though, they love the Whole Earth Farms and the switch was super easy. They’ve eaten the salmon and the chicken and liked both. Added bonus? The food is for cats at all life stages, so the kitten can eat it, too! (I still got a free bag of the kitten food, though, when I first got her.)
The cherry on top? They have a rewards program for the food. I believe you get a bag of food free after your twelfth food purchase. This is amazing since the kitten eats like a horse and I am going through food way faster than expected. (The three cats went through the five pound bag in record time, so I bought the ten pound bag the second time around.)
They have an amazing selection of wet food, too. My cats have only tried one or two of the Whole Earth Farms flavors, but they ate it up, so I take it they enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to letting them try all kinds of stuff, though. (I really like giving my cats wet food as a treat — helps add variety and they love the stuff.)
I know I mostly talked about cat food, but they have a wide variety of dog food, too. My boyfriend is in charge of buying dog food, so I haven’t yet purchased any dry food for our dog, but I did pick up some wet food and some bones. He loved the wet food and has already eaten the two bones I got him.
Everything I’ve purchased has been reasonably priced and well within my small budget. The people who work here are friendly and have answered any questions I’ve had regarding food. They also share stories about their own pets and their experiences with different brands of food, which I think is great. I have nothing but good things to say about Bark ‘N Purr and I am so glad that they are helping me keep my pets healthy and happy.

This is our go-​to place for dog food. They guarantee that your dog will eat the food or they will refund the entire amount. All of the foods are top of the line. On multiple occasions they have given us various samples of food and supplements. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Raw foods, frozen, dry, and wet. Just a great place.

I have been going here since I moved to Austin and the service has always been spectacular. They are proactive, helpful, and informative.

Really?! I walk into a high end, independently owned pet food store and I get no eye contact, no greeting, because the young man behind the counter is logging in… this after his driver completely blocked the parking lot for him to be dropped off. I asked if he was available to help me and his response, he who barely could take his eyes off the computer, was: «it depends.» Oh really? Another man, no greeting, no politeness, came up behind him and said: «he’s logging in.» Ok, well, I’m sure the owner would be happier for this kid to log in vs make a sale. I was called stupid when I walked out because I don’t want to be treated this way. Nice. Off to Petsmart. So much for «buy local.» Have fun on your computer; possibly some customer service training would be helpful or rehiring.

Really great, friendly staff. They answered a lot of questions for me and gave me great suggestions without being pushy. I will definitely keep using this store!

Stellar customer service. I had purchased a bag of dog food that i realized was expired when I got home. The next day I brought it back, and they gladly exchanged it for a replacement. Sure it was something that could have been prevented, but it was just overlooked, on their stocking part, as well as my buying and checking date part. It was just a hassle free experience I had to Unilocal it. Hehe
I love the gourmet cookies I always end up buying for my fur babies, as well as the raw bones I give my english setter as a treat for baths.
Dogs love it. I love it :)

I’d been going to Bark N Purr since I was a kid, however so much has changed there. I understand trying to meet the depend of the ever growing neighborhood around you, but I feel like they have missed the mark on where they started. They used to have a very down-​home and happy vibe, now they seem so uppity. I feel like I’ve been judged for things that I’m buying (and no, it’s not low cost crappy food!) and I feel ignored. I also have been given miss information from the staff. I understand that they receive much of their information from their sales reps, but it’s biased and that should be taken into consideration on their end. I love shopping local, and would love to return to the store I grew up with, but I think I’ll stick to Tomilinson’s. **Notice, I’m not being rude, nor am I trying to start any kind of argument. I’ve tried to keep this pretty benign & fair.

I’ve been buying dog food from Bark ‘N Purr for the last couple of years and I cannot say enough about their delivery service. With only a minimum order of $ 20, they will deliver to select zip codes for FREE. This basically means I never have to drive out and lug home dog food ever again. They have a smooth online ordering system, they are always reliable/​prompt with their deliveries, and it has made me a very loyal customer.
On the occasion that I visit their store, I love the welcoming greeting of the workers and their willingness to help me. Their dog toys, treats, leashes, etc. are not cheap but it’s what you’d expect for a boutique pet supplies shop.

Very cool place close to downtown if you’re searching for food for your pets that’s more higher grade than what you’ll find at the grocery store.
I love this place because they sell Orijen dog food. My mini Aussie has been given this brand of dog food ever since he was two months old & he loves it! The food is so pure they say it’s even safe for human consumption. Barr n purr even offers the thirteenth bag free after you buy twelve. Only downfall is you have to hold on to the receipts. It would be way easier if they just kept a log book of your purchase, but oh well.
A huge bonus too is if you live nearby and purchase anything over $ 20, they will deliver it to you for free!

excellent selection of high quality pet foods, treats, toys and furniture/​accessories. excellent selection of medium quality items mentioned above, too — the high end of medium, that is. fair prices.
we purchased a HUGE dog bed from them and it is really fantastic quality. we complained about the price ($ 200+) but i did some research and it was more or less the mean price of all places that sell the same bed. the only turn off i had was when i came to check out their selection, the woman who assisted me (i believe is/​was the owner) was very umm… sales person-​y? sorry, not gonna drop $ 250 on a dog bed without looking around and doing a little research first — and telling me something along the lines of «it might sell out soon and idk when we’re going to get anymore» isn’t going to incentivize me at all…
i purchase my 70 and 35lb dogs’ food here, and a 30lb bag lasts me a little under a month and costs ~$ 40. very reasonable and the food is made by a small, family-​owned/​run business.
the employees are super chill and always ask if you want help with things going out to your car, etc. they used to have a killer rewards program (10% of your purchase becomes store credit), but recently changed it. 12 UPCs from same dog food and you get the 13^th bag free. it’s certainly not a bad deal, but doesn’t take into account things like $ 200 dog beds, lol. still — it is a rewards program and something they don’t have to offer.
the animals that come in here are also suuuuuper cute and the owners are usually pretty cool too. definitely not a place i’d recommend to someone who thinks Ol’ Roy is acceptable dog food, but if you understand what should go into dog food (or want to, or want someone to offer you educated advice), this is definitely a place worth checking out!

I was introduced to Bark ‘N Purr by my dog trainer, who advised me to only feed my dog top quality food, usually not sold at regular pet stores (i.e. Petco). I was happy to learn Bark N’ Purr offered free delivery since those bags can be quite hefty. It’s also nice to be able to manage your account online and arrange for a subscription if you plan to buy regularly, ensuring your dog will not run out of food.
My pup had the runs recently and I suspected the culprit to be the recent batch of dog food since my pup did fine on the previous batches and actually loved the higher protein grain free kibble. I called and asked if there was something they could do. They happily offered to refund the food in its original bag. They also gave me good advice on how to treat my pup. I later learned it was Costco’s bully stuck (Cadet brand beware!) that was causing his sickness. Poor guy, he loved those sticks. I will be returning them stick asap (I bought 5 bags!)
Anyhow, you can tell these guys are passionate about what they do and truly care for the well being of our lovely pets. Try them out!

If I can help it, I’m never again going to have to lug a bag of litter from HEB. They have a minimum of $ 20 for free delivery. Less than that and delivery costs $ 5. Totally reasonable for not having to schlep around cat food and litter! Also, I started my elderly cat on Weruva chicken soup from Bark N Purr and she loves it, so hooray for that.

I’m always purring when I come here. They have a useful answer for anything I throw at them and it does not always cost something.
Last week I invested in a fancy schmancy «Furminator». And, whoa, does it work wonders. My baby girl kitty just lost about two pounds of ugly fur she was trying to shed. And I discovered hidden fleas on my boy kit. Ugh.
I also grabbed a «do it yourself» catnip package and will enjoy planting the seeds for our two cats. Bark ‘n Purr also carries raw bones, chicken necks and other tasty delights for your pets.
Locally owned, great customer service and close to my hood which makes it easy to frequent.
