Description

Specialties

Organic, fair trade and as local as possible are our specialties, from our coffee and teas to our house-made quiches, entrees, soups and salads. We shop the Austin Farmer’s Market every week, purchasing organic produce as well as beef, chicken, bison and lamb humanely raised on small farms. Our organic eggs are from Vital Farms in Austin, and our milks and creams are also organic, though not local. All fruits and vegetables purchased are organic, from spinach to bananas, with the rare exception of tomatillos, which are difficult to find as organic.

History

Established in 2000.

Pacha got its start under original owners Julie, Suzanne and Laurent as a place to buy South American handicrafts and art as well as enjoy a cup of coffee or bite to eat. Its life as a coffeehouse grew, slowly consuming space devoted to its merchandise, which was mostly eliminated by 2007. The café was put up for sale in 2008, and was the perfect starting point for the new owners, Marjorie and David, to get their feet wet in a totally new (to them) venture. Their goal was to bring the café into alignment with their personal commitments to organic, local and humanely raised produce, dairy and meats, as well as continue to provide community to the neighborhood.

Business Owner

As a former electrical engineer, I’ve eschewed the cubicle life portrayed so vividly in Dilbert for one with a lot more human contact and creative satisfaction. My partner David (an ancient Greek scholar) and I both have a passion for good food and I particularly love to bake — all of our baked goods are made from scratch (often by me at 5am!) as well as our more savory foods. Pacha is a bit of an extended family for us, and we also enjoy the satisfaction of providing employment in a caring and respectful environment. I love to make people happy, and hope our customers feel this from every one of us.
