Christine was recommended to me by another reproductive rights attorney in TX and I consider myself lucky to have received the recommendation. Christine crafted a contract between my husband and I and our Gestational Carrier (often known as a surrogate, but she won’t be related to the baby). These were tricky, emotional waters, where every detail mattered very much to both parties and I have zero doubt that in less experienced hands negotiations would have broken down entirely. Instead Christine and her staff made sensible recommendations on where my husband and I should expect to budge, what we should expect to be asked for, and handled all of this very professionally. Our contract came down to repeated changes over two lines, and while I imagine we were driving Christine’s firm crazy, they were wonderful at hiding that from us and making the 100 small changes that mattered so much to us, because they decided the life of our future child, and I always felt CHA Law understood this. I would recommend them wholeheartedly. Oh, and I’m from the East Coast, our Gestational Carrier is in Texas, so this was all done via phone, email, and fax– can’t praise the response time of the legal team enough!

Most lawyers in this town will not touch surrogacy with a 10-​foot pole. Christine has no fear, and tons of knowledge. We were very impressed. She spent the entire hour ($ 100 intro session) explaining details, state laws, and actually taking notes. It seems like a basic thing, right, but you’d be surprised. Great customer service, and lots of knowledge about heterosexual and same-​sex family adoptions and new-​family arrangements.
It’s extremely easy to find a good *adoption* lawyer in town, but to find one who is knowledgeable about both traditional and gestational surrogacy law is really hard to come by.
We ended up going with a lawyer in a state that had more relaxed second-​parent/​step-​parent adoption laws, but we strongly recommend her and wish we’d found her a year ago.

I engaged Ms. Andresen to assist in my petition for name and gender marker change. One of her specializations is LGBT-​related issues. She is very thorough in explaining issues, presenting information as well as ramifications answering even peripherally related questions. She is knowledgeable. She and the people at her practice are thorough, super-​punctual and efficient.

Being a first time gestational carrier, and not really sure what to make was in a contract with the Intended Parents, it was important to me to speak with a good lawyer. I wanted to be sure that everything in the contract was appropriate and fair. Christine walked me step by step through each piece of the contract in great detail (and even was willing to chat with me after I put my own children to bed)! She knew which questions to ask me to make me think about certain scenarios that could come up (ones that I would have never even dreamed of). She is very down to earth and easy to talk with… not «stiff» and «up tight». I highly recommend her to gestational surrogates!
